Abstract Background: A popular presenting symptom for a number of disorders is lymphadenopathy. Malignant and non-malignant lymphadenopathy differentiation has major clinical and therapeutic advantages. Objectives: Assess the efficacy of doppler ultrasound in differentiating malignant and non-malignant lymphadenopathy. Patients and methods: this study was done on 20 patients with clinically enlarged one or more axillary or cervical lymph nodes of both sexes and of different age groups. The lymph nodes were subjected to sonographic and Doppler studies, which were correlated with pathological diagnoses obtained by lymph node biopsy. Results: At cut off point of 1.36, pulsatile index had 75% sensitivity and 85% specificity with overall diagnostic accuracy was 80% in diagnosis of malignant lymphadenopathy. At cut off point of 0.65, resistive index had 86% sensitivity and 92.3% specificity with overall diagnostic accuracy was 89% in diagnosis of malignant lymphadenopathy. Conclusions: In differentiating benign from malignant lymph nodes, Color Doppler ultrasound plays an important complementary function to ultrasound. This adds to the diagnostic faith that can predict malignancy. If grey scale ultrasound results are equivocal, color doppler is also beneficial, and it increases diagnostic accuracy.

Abstract Background: Cytology is used to interpret cells obtained from various lesions. It is based on different sampling techniques that include fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), brush cytology, body fluids collection and study and collection of exfoliated cells. The use of cell block (CB) as an adjunct to routine fine needle aspiration can increase sensitivity to a considerable extent. Objectives: to perform different techniques of cell block preparation and assess their utility in increasing the sensitivity of cytological diagnosis of fine needle aspiration cytology. Patients and Methods: This was a prospective study carried out at Qena University Hospital's Department of Pathology (in the period from March 2021 to December 2022). The study included 40 individuals who were presented to the Outpatient Clinic of the General Surgery Department with thyroid nodules. Results: Concentrated formalin/ ethanol fixative (7 parts of 100 percent ethanol/ 3 parts of concentrated 40 % formaldehyde) method showed the highest diagnostic accuracy and the highest score. Out of 40 cases (FNAC of thyroid nodules), there were 28 cases given a score of 3, while 12 cases were scored 2, and none was scored 1. Conclusion: The cell block approach enables the recovery and processing of minute amounts of cellular material, allowing for better tumor categorization and for immunohistochemistry stains. We found that concentrated formalin/ ethanol fixative (7 parts of 100 percent ethanol/ 3 parts of concentrated 40 % formaldehyde) based cell block showed the highest scores and the highest diagnostic accuracy in FNAC samples of thyroid nodules.

Abstract Background: H.pylori is a Gram-negative bacterium known to be associated with peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer, gastric lymphoma. Recently it was detected in mucosa of patients with CRS, but relation with bilateral nasal polyposis has not been demonstrated yet. Objectives: H. pyloriis a pathogen that lives in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and has extragastric manifestations. Nasal polypi may be one of these manifestations. This study aims to detect the relation between H.pylori and bilateral nasal polypi. Patients and methods: This study includes 80 cases of nasal polypi, 40 of them were de novo bilateral nasal polypi and 40 were recurrent nasal polypi, biopsies of nasal polypi were taken under sterile conditions and stained with Giemsa stain and Hematoxylin and eosin(H&E) stain. Stool analysis was done to detect presence of H.pylori using rapid urease test. Results: Both groups are age and sex matched. Nasal polyp biopsies showed positive results in 10 % of denovo group and 15 % of recurrent group with p value 0.449 which is not statistically significant. Stool antigen test showed positive results in 52.5 % of denovo group and 60 % of recurrent group with p value 0.449 which is not statistically significant. Conclusion: There is no statistically significant relation between H.pylori and the pathogenesis of bilateral nasal polypi, further studies with large number of patients is recommended.
