Abstract The knee rehabilitation in the aquatic environment has been used to start the rehabilitation of the lower limb earlier and improve joint movements, as it reduces pain and allows for earlier weight loading . The aim of the study was to develop and describe the effects of a therapeutic exercise program in an aquatic environment, in a clinical case of osteotomy of the tibia and the varus femur. A 15-year-old girl, submitted to an osteotomy of the tibia and the varus femur, completed a therapeutic exercise program in aquatic environment for a total of 30 sessions (3 sessions/week of 60 min). The subject was evaluated in two moments (at the beginning and at the end of the intervention ). The results showed an improvement in the various parameters evaluated (knee flexion: 66° vs. 125°, knee extension: -7° vs. -1°, and pain on movement: 6/10 vs. 0/10). We concluded the therapeutic exercise program in the aquatic environment used in this study had beneficial effects in the clinical case of tibial osteotomy and varus femur.

Abstract Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is a surgical technique described in 1970 and performed laparoscopically since 1993. Occlusions are late complications that most often occur more than 6 months after surgery. Internal hernias and intussusception are the two clinical situations that can occur after RYGB. The presentation is that of an occlusion or chronic abdominal pain. Diagnosis can be made by imaging, including abdominal and pelvic CT scans, with ingestion and injection of contrast agents if possible. Treatment is based on surgical exploration.

    Abstract
<title>SETTING</title>The Portuguese municipalities of Penafiel and Marco de Canaveses are high TB incidence areas, where stone quarry workers represent a vulnerable population.
<title>OBJECTIVE</title>To assess the annual rate of TB infection (ARI) in stone quarry workers and to compare it with the TB notification rate in the general community.
<title>DESIGN</title>An annual TB infection screening strategy using interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) was implemented in 2018 for workers from high-risk stone quarries. A prospective cohort was enrolled and workers screened in periods of 2 years were included. IGRA-positive workers were referred for preventive treatment. ARI was calculated as the proportion of workers with IGRA conversion.
<title>RESULTS</title>Of the 232 IGRA-negative workers in 2018, 20 tested positive in 2019 (8.6% ARI). Of 171 IGRA-negative workers in 2019, eight tested positive in 2021 (4.7% in 2 years). Two of the 150 IGRA-negative workers in 2021 tested positive in 2022 (1.3% ARI). ARI decreased by 84.9% between 2019 and 2022. In the two municipalities, the TB notification rate declined 23.9% between 2018 and 2021.
<title>CONCLUSION</title>A more pronounced reduction in ARI was observed among stone quarry workers regularly screened for TB infection compared to the notification rate among the general population in high-incidence municipalities. A screening strategy for high-risk populations, together with enforced community measures, could foster risk reduction in the community.
.

Abstract The seta, a type of projection of the cuticle in crustaceans, has essential mechanical and sensory functions. Due to the diversity of their morphology and distribution patterns on the articles of different appendages, setae can be helpful as taxonomic characters. To assist future studies on the potential use of setae as a diagnostic character in aeglids, we used scanning electron microscopy to analyze the morphology of setae from the oral apparatus of Aegla longirostri Bond-Buckup & Buckup, 1994, and compared our data to the literature. We identified nine setal types (simple, serrate, stout serrate, sword, plumose, pappose, comb, serrulate, and cuspidate), of which the last two had not been previously described in adult aeglids. Our results are a first step towards future comparisons of setal morphology in the genus Aegla, which includes cryptic species complexes, to ascertain the usefulness of setae as a character to aid in the description of species of this group, which has a conserved general morphology.

Abstract In this study, a new species of Hyalella is described from southern region of Brazil. Hyalella jaboticabensis n. sp. was recorded in the municipality of Jaboticaba, northwest region of state of the Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. This species is characterized by showing smooth body surface, epimeral plates not acuminated, inner face of the gnathopod 1 with nine or ten serrate setae and some simple setae (six to eight), inner ramus of uropod 1 of males with one short curved seta, peduncle of the uropod 3 with six cuspidate setae with an accessory seta and two or three cuspidate setae on the rami, telson as long as wide (square) with six to eight short and long cuspidate setae with an accessory seta. This new description increases the Brazilian known diversity of species of Hyalella to 42 (25 to southern Brazilian region) and 108 species in the Americas. It is noting that it is crucial to know the complete diversity of Hyalella genus, and to consider conservation measures to protect species like H. jaboticabensis n. sp., endemic to two single small streams.

Abstract Medication adherence is essential for managing chronic diseases and achieving optimal health outcomes. However, this process is often challenging, particularly for patients with complex care needs. Informal caregivers play a pivotal role in supporting medication management, but they may face resource limitations and a lack of necessary support. Digital health tools offer a promising avenue to enhance medication adherence by providing reminders, education, and remote monitoring capabilities. This scoping review aimed to identify and evaluate digital solutions available to informal caregivers for improving medication adherence. A systematic search of PubMed and Web of Science was conducted using relevant keywords. Four studies were included in the review, examining a variety of digital tools including mobile apps, SMS messaging, and wearable devices. These tools demonstrated efficacy in improving medication adherence, managing disease symptoms, and enhancing quality of life for patients and caregivers. Digital health interventions hold the potential to revolutionize medication adherence among chronic disease patients. By empowering informal caregivers, these tools can bridge the gaps in medication management and contribute to better health outcomes. Further research is warranted to optimize the design, implementation, and evaluation of digital interventions for medication adherence.

Abstract Considering the exponential nature of the spread of COVID-19, the Infected Fatality Rate, and the mean time to death, it is possible to estimate a more realist number of total active cases – in contrast to the reported confirmed cases – based on the number of deaths announced in a given day in a region. In an example we have the number of active cases estimated in 1600 times the number of new deaths in that day. This can be useful to provide better resouce allocations.

Abstract Background: Patients infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome-CoV-2 can present physical complications that can make the return to their daily physical activities difficult. Despite the positive results in different pathologies through musculoskeletal physiotherapy, there are few reports in post-COVID-19 patients. This case describes an intervention based on musculoskeletal physiotherapy in a post-COVID-19 adult woman with physical sequelae.
Methods: As part of an initial evaluation in a woman with physical sequelaes post-COVID-19, it was decided to conduct a musculoskeletal physiotherapy over a course of 5 weeks distributed in 15 visits. To evaluate her progress the joint ranges were evaluated according to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Numerical pain scale was used, the muscle strength evaluated according to the Daniel Scale, and finally the Unipodal Station Test used.
Results: Musculoskeletal physiotherapy improved the patient's physical symptoms. The patient's pain was reduced from a value of 10 to 3; the strength of the musculature increased from a value of 2 to 4; initial joint ranges were expanded from 67% to 100% in various body segments. Finally, the woman managed to stay up to 8 s in the monopodal position.
Discussion: Using musculoskeletal physical therapy and measuring progress through quantitative measurements at each visit, a post-COVID-19 woman was able to resume her daily physical activities. This therapy is a valuable tool to recover the musculoskeletal system that proves to be an important advance in the recovery of the quality of life in patients with musculoskeletal sequelae from COVID-19.
