Abstract This work aims for single cell characterization. For this purpose, a two-step calibration technique is developed. It is optimized for various technologies like open-ended coaxial lines, printed circuit boards, and microtechnology. In principle, it is based on impedance measurements with a single reference liquid for calibration and is capable of extracting the broadband complex permittivity. The advantages are simplicity, robustness, and scalability down to low volumes. All of the sensors for...

Abstract: The paper pays attention to the mutesellim of Novi Pazar Yusuf Bey (1838-1839, 1841-1842, 1842-1851), the Serbian people and the reflection of the Tanzimat reforms in the territory under his control - Novi Pazar, Mitrovica, Sjenica, Nova Varoš, Trgovište ...

Abstract The paper pays attention to the mutesellim of Novi Pazar Yusuf Bey (1838-1839, 1841-1842, 1842-1851), the Serbian people and the reflection of the Tanzimat reforms in the territory under his control - Novi Pazar, Mitrovica, Sjenica, Nova Varoš, Trgovište and Bihor kaza. It is pointed out that Yusuf Bey in the period 1838-1842. fought for the position of Novi Pazar mutesellim and that his administration ended in 1851, after the successful military action of the Rumelia serasker Omer Pasha Latas in the Bosnian Eyalet. In the mentioned year, the Sanjak of Novi Pazar was officially formed, which, in addition to the kazas that were under the control of Yusuf Bey, also included the Višegrad kaza. During the rule of Yusuf Bey, Serbs were exposed to constant violence, except in the period from 1844 to 1848, when a relatively peaceful situation prevailed. Serbs most complained about the representatives of the executive power who committed all kinds of violence (rapes, attempted violent islamization, murders).

Abstract The broad purpose of this essay is to demonstrate how scholarly readings of medieval hagiography might benefit from a theoretical-methodological shift towards space as the principal focal point of analysis. More specifically, it aims to put forward a new, spatial interpretation of two well-known miracle episodes from the Lives of St Sava of Serbia, both of which are said to have transpired on the high seas.

Abstract The vali of Rumelia Marashli Ali Pasha was named the muhafiz of Belgrade and the mutesarrif of Smederevo Sanjak in the year in which the Second Serbian Uprising (1815) ended. At the beginning of his administration, a dual Serbian-Ottoman rule was established in the Sanjak of Smederevo, better known as the Belgrade Pashalik. The establishment of dual rule was the initial step in the struggle for the autonomy of the Serbian people (1815- 1833). Using unpublished and published historical sources and relevant literature the paper presents the political role of Marashli Ali Pasha as the muhafiz of Belgrade and the mutesarrif of Smederevo Sanjak. International circumstances were also taken into account.

Abstract Proclamation of the famous Gulhane Hatt-i Sharif, the reform act that announced the equality of all subjects of the Ottoman Empire regardless of their religion, started a new age - Tanzimat period (1839-1876), during which a wide program of reforms was initiated that transformed the institutional, economic and social order of the Empire. However, the Tanzimat period did not manifest itself only as the period of renewal, it was the age of great discord and uprising in the Ottoman Empire. Gulhane Hatt-i Sharif did not improve the position of the Serbian people in Old Serbia, where, during the first years after the proclamation of the reform act, constant anarchy ruled. During these years, the Arnaut oppression over the Serbian population became regular, which resulted in a mass migration of Serbian families into the Principality of Serbia. The situation temporarily stabilized after the suppression of the Arnaut anti-reform insurrection of Dervish Cara (1843-1844), after which the implementation of Tanzimat reform started in the territory of Old Serbia.

Abstract This work presents the advantages of using ultrasound (US) in the procedure of antimicrobial functionalization of cotton knitwear. Ultrasound-assisted extraction of bioactive components from plant material reduced the extraction time by 40% and increased the degree of utilization by 12.5% in comparison with conventional extraction. By optimizing the H₂O₂ bleaching process, it was found that the application of ultrasound resulted in reducing the temperature from 100 °C to 60 °C, the processing time by 30 min and the H₂O₂ concentration from 4% to 2%, while retaining the same weight loss, the appropriate degree of whiteness with preserved mechanical properties compared with treatment carried out without using ultrasound. Dyeing with the plant extract of Achillea millefolium L. using the ultrasonic atomization resulted in even coloration and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, with using minimum quantities of extract and 6.67 times shorter processing time in comparison with the bath exhaustion method.

Abstract Of all the places St Sava of Serbia had allegedly visited during his second voyage to the East, the attention of scholars was particularly drawn to those which the author of his first vita, Domentijan, designated as ‘Great Babylon’ and ‘Great Egypt’. The article presents a new hypothesis on how this segment of Sava’s itinerary was (re)constructed on the literary plane, i. e. how the perspective of his hagiographer, a hieromonk of the Hilandar monastery, was influenced and shaped by geographical knowledge, personal experience, and finally, by the general conventions of the vita genre.

Abstract In this study, physicochemical characteristics, mineral and polyphenolic composition, and anti‐inflammatory and antimicrobial effects of wild cornelian cherry fruits from two regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina were determined. Values of flesh weight and fruit:flesh ratio were higher for samples from the western region. Samples from the southern region had significantly higher (p ≤ .05) dry matter, total sugar and pectin content, as well as color parameters L* and a*, whereas samples from the western region had significantly higher (p ≤ .05) total acidity. Significant content of potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus were determined in all samples. A higher content of flavonols was found in the samples of cornelian cherries from the southern region, whereas a higher content of flavan‐3‐ols and anthocyanins was found in the samples from the western region. All cornelian cherry fruit samples showed anti‐inflammatory and antimicrobial activity. Polyphenolic components had significant (p ≤ .05) antimicrobial activity against Bacillus cereus and Escherichia coli cultures. NOVELTY IMPACT STATEMENT: The wild cornelian cherries are widespread in the territories of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but so far, it has not been fully explored, and the results presented in this paper provide new findings. The ethanolic extract of all tested cornelian cherry samples had a significant amount of essential macrominerals, whereas heavy metal cadmium was not found and lead was found only in traces. All ethanolic extracts exhibited high antimicrobial and anti‐inflammatory activity, and the content of flavonols, flavan‐3‐ols, and anthocyanins was found to depend on the growth region.

Abstract Cancer is one of the most common fatal diseases in humans nowadays. About 20 million new cancer cases are expected in the next two decades worldwide. The development of new chemotherapeutic agents with improved properties is presently the main challenge in the medicinal chemistry. Cisplatin was introduced to oncology in 1978 as first chemotherapeutic agent regarding its specific interaction with DNA, leading to its damage and causing the cell death. Since the first application of cisplatin in cancer therapy, there has been a growing interest in new metal-based compounds, in particular platinum and ruthenium complexes, with better anticancer activity and less side-effects compared to cisplatin. Carboplatin and oxaliplatin have shown promising action against some types of cancer, which are resistant to cisplatin. With the aim to overcome cross-resistance to these Pt(II) drugs, bioavailable platinum complexes (satraplatin and picoplatin) firstly found application as orally administered drugs, as well as some combined therapies of Pt(II) drugs (cisplatin, picoplatin) with specific resistant modulators. In recent years, novel polymer and liposomal formulations of platinum drugs (prolindac, lipoplatin, lipoxal, aroplatin) have been designed with strategy to improve drug delivery to target cancer cells and reduce toxicity. Complexes based on ruthenium have great potential to become leading candidates for the medical use in anticancer therapy. Some of these compounds have shown good anticancer activity, both in vitro and in vivo and two of them (KP1019 and NAMI-A) have passed clinical trials and given promising results.
