    Abstract Recent results by the authors on proton diffractive dissociation (single, double and central) in the low-mass resonance region with emphasis on the LHC kinematics are reviewed and updated. Based on the previous ideas that the contribution of the inelastic proton-Pomeron vertex can be described by the proton structure function, the contribution of the inelastic Pomeron-Pomeron vertex appearing in central diffraction is now described by a Pomeron structure function.

    Abstract Der hochentwickelte Massentourismus konzentriert sich in Oesterrreich auf den Alpenraum. in welchem nur ein knapper theoretisch besiedelbarer Siedlungsraum zur Verfuegung steht. Diese Regionen kennzeichnet zudem auch ein ueberproportional hohes Bevoelkerungswachstum. In inneralpinen Taelern erreicht die saisonale Besiedlungsdichte teilweise Grossstadtniveau. Trotz gebremster Zunahme der Gaestebetten stieg der Flaechenbedarf in den vergangenen 15 Jahren um mehr als 20Prozent pro Gast, die Konzentration auf wenige attraktive Zentren erhoeht den Druck auf Freiflaechen weiter. Auch ausserhalb der Siedlungsraeume beansprucht der 'harte' Tourismus Flaechen, konkurriert mit traditionellen Nutzungen und beeintraechtigt intakte Freiraeume. Die Verbauung von 25 ha Freiraum pro Tag in Oesterreich erfordert die Begrenzung der Siedlungs- und Erschliessungsraeume, die Sicherung natuerlicher Ressourcen auch im Interesse des oesterreichischen Tourismus;die Umweltsensibilitaet der Gaeste gebietet dies. Das Oesterreichische Raumordnungskonzept 1991 als Rahmenplanung fuer die Raumordnung in Oesterreich schlaegt deshalb insbesondere fuer den Alpenraum flaechensparende Bauformen, die Festlegung von Siedlungsgrenzen und Vorrangzonen und erschliessungsfreien Zonen vor. Fuer Grossprojekte sind Raum- und Umweltvertraeglichkeitspruefungen verbindlich vorzusehen. Fuer Tourismusgebiete muessen zusaetzlich Obergrenzen fuer die Bettenkapazitaet und Grenzen der Nutzungsintensitaet im Freiraum festgelegt werden.

    Abstract This report reviews the study of open heavy-flavour and quarkonium production in high-energy hadronic collisions, as tools to investigate fundamental aspects of Quantum Chromodynamics, from the proton and nucleus structure at high energy to deconfinement and the properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma. Emphasis is given to the lessons learnt from LHC Run 1 results, which are reviewed in a global picture with the results from SPS and RHIC at lower energies, as well as to the questions to be addressed in the future. The report covers heavy flavour and quarkonium production in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions. This includes discussion of the effects of hot and cold strongly interacting matter, quarkonium photoproduction in nucleus-nucleus collisions and perspectives on the study of heavy flavour and quarkonium with upgrades of existing experiments and new experiments. The report results from the activity of the SaporeGravis network of the I3 Hadron Physics programme of the European Union 7[Formula: see text] Framework Programme.
