Abstract Techniques for detection of microbial contamination -- Decontamination of fruits -- Decontamination of vegetables -- Decontamination of ready to eat vegetable salads -- Decontamination of sprouts -- Decontamination of microgreens -- Decontamination of Cereal and Cereal -- Decontamination of Nuts -- Decontamination of spices -- Decontamination of meat and meat products -- Decontamination of poultry and poultry products -- Decontamination of fish and fish products -- Decontamination of milk and milk products -- Decontamination of fruit beverages -- Decontamination of food powders.

Food is contaminated in the production chain and is the point of concern among the consumers and industries. There is also a considerable increase in foodborne outbreaks, which possess the challenge to industry associated with the production of processed food. Various strategies are used to prevent the contamination during postharvest stage, storage and distribution. Different methods are exploited for degrading or eliminating the microbial contamination from food commodities. The conventional techniques used for decontamination demanded a considerable requirement for novel technologies, which are efficient, environmental friendly, and cost-effective. Novel technologies efficiently remove the contamination without adversely affecting the nutritional properties and sensory characteristics of food material. There is a lack of scientific information on the microbial decontamination of different food commodities such as fruits, vegetables, cereals, sprouts, microgreens, meat, poultry, milk, nut, spices etc. under one umbrella. The application of conventional and novel technologies for improving the food safety of individual food commodities will be addresses in this book. Written by several experts in the field, this book is a valuable source for students, scientists, and professionals in food science, food microbiology, food technology, food processing, and other allied sciences.

Abstract Given the global environmental issues associated with petroleum‐based packaging materials, developing green packaging films is a promising innovative approach to packaging food products. In this regard, starch films added with plant extracts and essential oils have been explored for different packaging types of food products. The availability of starch in nature makes starch films a cheap substitute for petroleum‐based packaging material, thus reducing the impact on the environment, packaging costs, and complexity. Recent investigations emphasize identifying and isolating natural ingredients from different plants for use in starch‐based green packaging. Plant extracts and essential oils influence the mechanical and barrier properties and impart antioxidant and antimicrobial properties to the developed films. These films show promising applications in the food industry. This review provides recent insights into the effects of plant extracts and essential oils on starch‐based green packaging films' properties.

Abstract BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Multigrain bread is bread prepared from multiple flours of different cereals. This review aims to assess the technological and nutritional properties of multigrain doughs and bread and discuss challenges and opportunities. FINDING: Increased consumer awareness of healthy nutrition urges the demand for beneficial health foods in the market. The primary aim of developing multigrain bread is to take care of the expanding demand for a healthy diet concerning the economy and exploit minor cereals. Multigrain bread includes grains such as wheat, rice, barley, oat, maize, rye, pseudocereals, and pulses and allows the development of products with enhanced nutritional profiles. Combining flours with differences in composition significantly affects the water absorption behavior and ultimately leads to a difference in dough handling and nutritional properties. Bread prepared from multigrain is nutritionally superior to 100% wheat‐based bread. Sometimes the development of multigrain products is a technological challenge as various grains are used, different in composition and nature, which affects the color, texture, and sensory attributes. CONCLUSION: Consumer preference for multigrain bread increases due to its high nutritional profile and potential health benefits.

Abstract The book provides basic knowledge in mycorrhizal ecology, knitted with novel conceptual frameworks and contemporary perspectives, especially in the context of global change. In a fast changing world wherein anthropogenic climate change, biological invasions, deforestation, desertification, and frequent droughts have become routine hard realities, the contents of this book urge readers to rethink basic notions of setting and accomplishing objectives in mycorrhizal research to make sense vis-à-vis contemporary challenges. In this book, a global perspective of mycorrhizal diversity and distribution is provided, followed by some insights into the impact of various global change elements such as climate change, plant invasion, and extreme environmental conditions on mycorrhizas and the role of these mutualists in turn to help their host plants to withstand such novel selection pressures. Special attention here is given to the interesting, but largely neglected, topics such as the role of mycorrhizas in ecological restoration of degraded environments and mycorrhizal status of aquatic plants. The basic idea is to unify various topical areas in mycorrhizal science in an integrated framework. This book can be used by the undergraduate and graduate level students studying mycorrhizal symbioses in the context of current ecological applications. The materials in this book will benefit biological scientists actively involved in research on mycorrhizal ecology and global environmental change. Besides, the contents of the book could be of special interest to restoration ecologists and biodiversity managers

Abstract Pesticides have been extensively used to increase production performance and enhance the shelf life of food products. Pesticide residues in food products are a global concern because their negative impacts on human health depend on the means and amount of exposure. The main routes of pesticide exposure to humans are through food product consumption. In this regard, removing pesticide residues from food products is important to reduce pesticide exposure to humans. Numerous methods have been applied to degrade the pesticide residue from food products. Various household and industrial preparations like washing, blanching, peeling, and thermal treatments have been found effective for reducing pesticide residues. Novel technologies like cold plasma, pulsed electric field, irradiation, ultrasonication have been applied to degrade pesticide residues depending on the type of pesticide and processing parameters. This current article was aimed to provide an overview regarding the application of emerging technologies in the degradation of pesticide residues from different food products.
