Abstract This research aims to investigate the presence of environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis while considering the financial sector variables such as financial innovation, financial inclusion, and financial development on the environmental quality as well as achieving the energy efficiency in the Middle Eastern region. Current research employs a panel conditionally homogenous autoregressive (PCHVAR) specification for the annual dataset covering the time 2001-2021. The estimates reveal that in the short run, economic growth and financial sector variables adversely affect the environment quality by emitting more greenhouse gases, whereas in the long run, higher economic growth and developed financial sector help to improve the quality of the environment and energy efficiency. These findings are also verified through the Granger causality test. This research provides insights to establish long-term policies for facilitating investments in green technology and energy conservation in the Middle Eastern region.

Abstract Innovation in green technology is an efficient approach to reducing carbon emissions and achieving energy conservation, which is essential for fostering sustainable and green economic development. Even though the development of eco-friendly technologies is accelerating, the grasp of how political ties affect firms' adoption of green technologies remains hazy. This paper examines the effect of a firm's total political embeddedness (government ownership and political connections) along with the influencing mechanisms by employing a panel fixed effect regression approach on a dataset of Chinese A-share enterprises operating in pollution-intensive industries spanning 2012 to 2021. The findings offer conclusive evidence that political embeddedness encourages the enterprises' development of green technologies and boosts their output of innovation. In addition, mechanism analysis reveals that companies' political embedding influences their green innovation behavior through environmental disclosure. Moreover, board gender diversity and company growth rate are found to reinforce the impact of political embeddedness on green innovation. Besides expanding the current research on green innovation and corporate political involvement, the findings also provide important policy recommendations for the sustainable development of companies in emerging markets.

Abstract This study intends to examine the effect of CEO succession with gender change from male to female (i.e., female CEO succession) on corporate social responsibility (CSR) reporting. Based on insights from upper echelons theory, it is proposed that female CEO successors are more likely than male CEO successors to improve the firm’s CSR reporting level due to variations in their traits, values, and preferences regarding green issues, especially CSR. The study also explores the influence of the firm’s ownership status (i.e., SOEs vs. non-SOEs) and performance (high-performance firms vs. low-performance firms) on the relationship between female CEO succession and CSR reporting. Using data from Chinese publicly traded firms from 2010 to 2020, this study employs the logistic regression technique to examine the proposed relationship between female CEO succession and CSR reporting and presents robust evidence that female CEO succession has a positive effect on firm CSR reporting, and that this effect is more prevalent in non-SOEs and high-performance firms than in SOEs and low-performance firms, respectively. The study adds fresh insights to the extant literature on CSR and corporate leadership and offers useful policy recommendations for corporate decision-makers and policymakers while considering women’s involvement in succession plans for top leadership positions like CEO to tackle the strategic management of CSR disclosure in China.

Abstract Background: Bacterial Omphalitis has been reported as a significant cause of mortalities in newly hatched broiler chicks.
Aim: This study aimed to assess the occurrence of omphalitis among broiler chickens in Gharbia governorate in Egypt. In addition, the bacteria associated with the occurrence of omphalitis in broiler chickens were also investigated and characterized.
Methods: For this purpose, 43 farms in that area were surveyed. The comparative levels of omphalitis caused by
Results: The overall incidence rate of omphalitis was 37.21%. In birds with omphalitis, the co-prevalence of
Conclusion: The frequency of omphalitis and its associated mortalities was comparatively high in Gharbia governorate. More efforts should be made to adopt strict hygienic standards for controlling and preventing such disease and this will consequently lead to minimizing the use of antimicrobials in poultry farms.

Abstract Objectives: This systematic review aims to investigate the impact of tumor necrotic factor alpha inhibitors in suppressing bone resorption in periodontitis, and its potential to cause osteonecrosis. Extensive electronic research was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines, which connected various aspects of anti-TNF-a (anti-tumor necrosis factor-a) to periodontitis and osteonecrosis patients.
Background: TNF-a inhibitors are broadly indicated in the treatment of autoimmune patients with possible joint resorption and increased inflammatory processes such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease, where they reduce bone loss and certain mediators. As rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis share many characteristics, these medications may also be helpful in the treatment of coexisting periodontitis. However, besides medical benefits, anti-TNF-a also exhibits several adverse effects, ranging from dizziness to tuberculosis. Osteonecrosis is considered a recent adverse impact.
Methods: An extensive electronic systematic review following the PRISMA guidelines was performed for English-language papers using the following databases as sources of information: PubMed, Medline, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Library Genesis, Worldwide Science, National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS), and other related articles. This systematic review is registered on the PROSPERO platform under registration number CRD42022341753.
Results: Twenty articles were identified after the exclusion criteria were applied. These include systematic reviews, case reports, retrospective cohort studies, case report series,
Conclusions: Anti-TNF-a drugs show promising results in treating patients with rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis but could be considered a risk factor for osteonecrosis. Hence, patients receiving such medications should be closely monitored by the dentist and physician before, during, and after administration.

Abstract Objective: To examine the influence of comorbid mental illness on hospitalization among adults reporting diabetes mellitus.
Methods: This cross-sectional observational study used National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) data from 2000-2018 to examine hospitalization. Mental illness was defined as no to low psychological distress (NLPD), moderate psychological distress (MPD), and serious psychological distress (SPD) as per the Kessler-6 scale. Socio-demographic factors and health status were added as covariates in binary logistic regression.
Results: This study involved 48,807 survey participants and reflected an estimated population of 17,524,418 adults with diabetes in the United States, of whom 19.9% were hospitalized in the year prior to the survey. Among those who were hospitalized, 71.5% exhibited None to Low Psychological Distress (NLPD), 17.7% reported Moderate Psychological Distress (MPD), and 10.8% reported Serious Psychological Distress (SPD). Conversely, among non-hospitalized individuals, the percentages were as follows: 83.2% had NLPD, 11.4% had MPD, and 5.3% had SPD. The odds ratio (OR) for hospitalization was found to be OR=1.31 (95% CI: 1.20, 1.43, p<0.0001) for MPD and OR=1.42 (95% CI: 1.28, 1.58, p<0.0001) for SPD, in comparison to those with no or low psychological distress.
Conclusion: Among adults with diabetes mellitus, those with mental illness were more likely to be hospitalized than those without mental illness. Programs and policies to improve care among adults with both mental illness and diabetes may help to reduce hospitalizations.

Abstract Research in the field of human mobility assist devices, aiming to reduce the metabolic cost of daily activities, is seeing the benefits of the exclusive use of accumulators to store and release energy during the gait cycle. The Pneumatic Artificial Muscle, used in a passive state, has proven to be a superior choice for these devices when compared to its alternatives, however, challenges regarding muscle pressure dissipation and a limited elongation potential have been identified. A recently developed, novel Soft Composite material has been shown to experimentally replicate the distinctive mechanical behaviour of the Pneumatic Artificial Muscle, without the need for internal pressurization. This paper presents two separate constitutive models to provide a closer insight into the behaviour of these Soft Composite accumulators. Both models were derived from methods involving finite elasticity theory and employed either a structural strain energy function of Holzapfel, Gasser, and Ogden's type or a phenomenological strain energy function of Fung's type. Both models were in good agreement with the experimental data that were collected through a modified extension-inflation test and, therefore, provide a basis for further examination as a Soft Composite design model.
