Abstract AbstractThe beginning of 2020 was marked by the spread of the COVID-19 virus, which led to a global response in terms of lockdown measures by several countries and landed academics to offer online settings for teaching, research, and administrative activities. The situation led universities to respond quickly and effectively to address the needs of teachers, staff, students, and society. This study provides an overview of Active Implementation Frameworks (AIFs) adopted by a public-sector women’s university to overcome the hurdles due to the pandemic lockdown. The study provides evidence that AIFs are effective for implementing evidence-based models by promoting the development and deployment of innovations through implementation teams in a resource-constraint setting. The result of AIFs adoption by the university was the closure of the academic year on time along with global recognition of the university’s efforts during the pandemic by World Universities with Real Impact 2020. Fatima Jinnah Women University was ranked in the top 50 in crisis management category. This recognition is a testimony to the application of best practices for transforming higher education to not only survive but thrive in uncertain times and serves as a roadmap for public-sector universities to adapt to their contextual realities.

Abstract Digital systems are changing to security systems in contemporary days. It is time for the digital system to have sufficient security to defend against threats and attacks. The intrusion detection system can identify an anomaly from an external or internal source in the network system. Many kinds of threats are present, that is, active and passive. These dangers could lead to anomalies in the system by which data can be attacked and taken by attackers from the beginning to the destination. Machine learning nowadays is a developing topic; its applications are wide. We can forecast the future through machine learning and classify the right class. In this paper, we employed the new binary and multiclass classification model of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to identify the anomaly of the network system. In this respect, we used the NSLKDD dataset. Our model uses a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to conduct binary and multiclass classification. In both datasets, we build a DL-based DoS detection model. We focus on the DoS category in the most extensively used IDS dataset, KDD. As the name implies, CNN is the most extensively used the DL model for image recognition. Adding a pooling layer to the convolution layer minimizes the size of the feature data extracted from the image while maintaining I/O and spatial information. The CNN model has shown the promising results of multiclass and binary classification in terms of validation loss of 0.0012 at 11th epochs and validation accuracy of 98% and 99%, respectively.

Abstract The International Journal of Frontier Sciences just completed its three years of publication. Start of a journal is always challenging for editors especially if journal is not an official publication of some institute or professional society. However, completing three years also has been a very learning experience for editorial team. From the start, TIJFS team is focused to catch indexation in EMBASE, MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. However, starting years of the journal are always challenging. Journal editors are continuously improving practices to achieve these milestones at earliest. In scope, journal is transdisciplinary mainly covering life and environmental sciences. Starting from Pakistan, it was very difficult to run an internationally covered journal, however, our international editorial team putting its continuous efforts to do this. In last year, journal started its indexing process and just became a part of WHO’s Index Medicus. Also, editors started to generate digital object identifiers (DOIs) of all manuscripts published. Currently, journal is in process of indexation in prestigious international bodies including Web of Science etc. Journal editors hope to be a part of many international indices during the current volume year. Also, its worth to mention that journal is following ethical guidelines by Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials, Committee of Publication Ethics, International Committee of Medical Journal Editors and World Association of Medical Editors. Current volume contains original articles, clinical audit and a report covering broad spectrum domains of life sciences especially medical science including topics of clinical chemistry, dentistry, gynaecology, neurosurgery, nutrition, pain medicine, public health, rehabilitation, sleep medicine, surgery and virology.

Abstract Introduction: Transgender community across the world is extremely vulnerable for abuse, discrimination and violence. This vulnerability leads the transgender community towards suicidal ideation and self-harm. This paper attempts to study the phenomenon of social exclusion and how it relates to suicidal ideation and self-harm amongst the transgender youth living and working in a society. Material & Methods: The study adopted qualitative approach using document analysis, semi-structured interviews and focus group discussion. Interviews and focus group discussion were held with twenty-six respondents selected through snowball sampling technique. Results: The results indicated that transgender community was prone to suicidal ideation and self-harm tendencies. Loneliness, gender identity crises, police behavior and bad attitude of gurus were some of the contributing factors to suicidal ideation in the studied group of transgenders. Conclusion: The biggest reason among transgender for suicidal ideation is their gender identity having the concept of 'incomplete life'. The ambiguous gender identity of studied transgender has more suicidal ideation in them than their normal counterparts. The behavior of their families and unsuccessful relationships are the strong predictors of self-harm in them.

Abstract Abstract Background In recent years, 1, 2, 4-triazole and its derivatives have been reported to be pharmacologically significant scaffolds. They possess analgesic, anti-tubercular, anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, anti-oxidant, anti-fungal, anti-cancer, anxiolytic and anti-depressant activity. This study was designed and conducted to evaluate the potential anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities of Triazole derivatives. Methods Swiss albino (male and female) mice weighing 20-30 g (10-24 weeks female), (5-14 weeks male) and Wister Kyoto rats (male and female) weighing 200-300 g (8-10 weeks old) were used for the present study. Anti-inflammatory activity was checked using Lambda carrageenan (λ) and egg albumin-induced paw edema models. Analgesic via Writhing Reflex induced by acetic acid and formalin, furthermore anti-pyretic activity was assessed by yeast induced pyrexia. Results Both of the test compounds exhibited encouraging anti-inflammatory analgesic and antipyretic results when compared with standard drug ibuprofen. The maximum inhibition of edema for the compound (S)-1-(4-Amino-5-mercapto-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-yl) ethanol [3] was found to be (91)% as compared to reference drug ibuprofen (82)%, while (S)-1-(6-Phenyl-7H-[1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazin-3-yl)ethanol [5e] showed equipotent results to ibuprofen (81)%. The derivatives were also screened for their anti-nociceptive activity by Acetic acid writhing and tail immersion test. Compound 3 showed a significant reduction in wriths (83)% as compared to standard drug ibuprofen 71.5% and [5] showed comparable results to ibuprofen by exhibiting 70% reduction in writh at the same dose as that of standard drug, moreover, there were no signs of toxicity being observed after administration of high doses of test compounds to mice. Conclusions It is evident from the results that compounds 3(compound A) and 5(compound B) are a potential candidate for anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-pyretic and the scaffold could be used for further ...

Abstract This study explored the multifaceted factors influencing the efficiency of hybrid maize production and investigated the possible implications for food security. The study adopted a comprehensive approach, examining personal, household, physical, and institutional factors that affect farmers’ productivity. Findings revealed the technical, allocative, and economic efficiencies through a combination of field surveys, data analysis, and econometric modeling. The mean technical, allocative, and economic efficiency scores for the sampled farms were 0.89, 0.66, and 0.59, respectively. Moreover, the result of Tobit regression analysis showed high significance of all three efficiencies. The significant factors associated with technical efficiency were farm size, age of farm household, maize farming experience, maize farming area, distance from the farm to the main market, number of visits by extension workers, credit access, and Okara district. In addition, the number of visits by extension workers, districts (Sahiwal and Okara), age of farmers, maize farming experience, and regional disparity (Sahiwal district) had substantial influences on allocative and economic inefficiencies in the hybrid maize-growing farms. Policymakers and agricultural stakeholders can develop focused strategies to improve farmers’ productivity and overall food security by identifying the key factors associated with hybrid maize production. Tailored interventions that address knowledge gaps, improve resource allocation, and provide improved institutional support can help make food systems more sustainable and resilient.

Abstract This article seeks to explore the effectiveness of a comprehensive performance management system in terms of employee performance. Besides, the mediating effect of work engagement was also examined. The performance management system effectiveness (PMSE) was determined by the extent of its accuracy and fairness, as recommended by previous researchers. A sample of 285 employees was selected from various branches of private banks located across Pakistan. A structured questionnaire was used, which was validated through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in the Pakistani context. The results indicated a significant impact of PMSE and work engagement on task and contextual performance of employees. Also, complementary mediation of employee work engagement in the relationship between PMSE and employee performance (in terms of task and contextual performances) was also supported. The findings of the research are helpful for the development of HR and PMSE strategy in the private banks of Pakistan. The study also suggests that a comprehensive PMSE model including the perception of fairness as a mandatory part, may be introduced for employees’ enhanced work engagement and task/contextual performance. The mediating relationship of work engagement has established the process of PMSE for the task and contextual performances of employees, which is a valuable contribution of the study.

Abstract Transformational leadership has been studied as an essential trait for nurse leaders in the past; however, there is a dearth of studies on interpersonal leadership which is a combined construct of transformational leadership and interactional justice. The main objective of this article was to examine the relationship between interpersonal leadership and task performance. A cross-sectional research design was adopted for this study. 700 questionnaires were circulated among nurses from 14 major hospitals across the country. Out of these, 336 nurses replied. The final usable sample size was 283 full-time nurses, out of which 91.8% were female. The online and paper-based instruments were floated twice, at different timings with different cover letters to avoid common method bias. Nurses perceive that interpersonal leadership can significantly enhance their task performance. Similarly the study also found significant mediation of work engagement in the positive relationship between interpersonal leadership and task performance. Moreover, there was no significant difference between public and private sector nurses about interpersonal leadership and its relationship with work engagement and task performance. Interpersonal leadership has been found as significantly and positively effective toward work engagement and task performance of nurses working both in public and private sector hospitals. The results establish that by adopting the interpersonal leadership style, a nurse leader can enhance the work engagement of her followers. The study suggests that interpersonal leadership should be adopted as a total concept in nurse management to achieve better results in terms of work engagement and task performance.

Abstract This paper is aimed at evaluating the factors affecting the concurrent adoption of two risk coping strategies among hybrid maize farmers, namely income diversification supplemented with off-farm work and contract farming in the wake of changing climatic conditions. Climatic changes and food insecurity at the national level have emerged as key risk elements for hybrid maize production due to varying economic conditions. The present paper addresses these risks by examining various sources of risks faced by hybrid maize farmers and develops ideas to tackle these risks. Bivariate and multinomial probit models were employed to analyze numerous factors that influence farmers’ choice of the simultaneous adoption of income diversification (both on and off the farm) and contract farming at the farm level. The results reveal that hybrid maize farmers’ socioeconomic attributes significantly affect their adoption of risk coping tools. Similarly, the climatic, economic (price-related), biological, and financial risk perceptions and risk preference significantly influence the utilization of risk coping strategies in maize production. These outcomes extend our understanding of farmers’ risk preferences and provide parameters for policymakers to forestall diverse risk sources associated with hybrid maize production.
