Title translation Female representation in surgical and related specialties in Peru.
Abstract Gender equality is a social issue that affects various disciplines. Within the field of medicine, inequality regarding the role of women in surgical specialties has been clearly identified. Limited female representation in leadership positions regarding surgical or academic societies, salary differences when compared to their male colleagues, and lack of mentoring programs for a balanced career are some of the difficulties faced by women who pursue a surgical career. This article explores the status of women who pursue surgical careers in Peru and the specific limitations they face; it also highlights the importance of female participation in surgery and proposes some suggestions to improve the role of women in the surgical field.

Title translation Academic application of text messages in a first aid course: a pilot study in a private university in Lima, Peru.
Abstract The aim of the study was to develop and evaluate the impact of an educational intervention with the use of text messages (SMS) in a first aid course. A prospective study and intervention was conducted. Two steps were implemented: 1) a qualitative study to design the SMS and 2) the intervention with the sending of the SMS messages. The outcome variable was the final grade of students. Multivariate models were constructed, prevalence ratios and confidence intervals at 95% were calculated. The first phase revealed that the SMS should be educational-theoretical, motivational, and multiple choice. In the intervention there were 66 participants in the control and intervention group. The average age was 17.7 (± 1.2) years. The intervention group obtained higher scores compared with the control group (PR = 4.82; 95% CI: 1.58 to 14.72). In conclusion, SMS with informative and motivational content is useful in the formation of undergraduate medicine.

Title translation Estudios colaborativos multicéntricos en cirugía: ¿qué sucede en Latinoamérica?
Abstract Background: GlobalSurg is an international group of researchers whose purpose is to conduct and disseminate robust collaborative, international and multicenter studies.
Objective: To expose the necessary strategies and the barriers crossed in conducting massive multicenter studies in surgery.
Method: During the second semester of 2020, the study Surg-Week Prospective International Cohort Study was carried out. Surg-Week has been the largest international study in the field of surgery to date, with 141,582 patients included. A total of 4975 mini-teams, of between 1 and 5 members, collected data from 116 countries on all continents.
Results: The creation of an official website for the study, reports with relevant information via email or groups via WhatsApp, formation of a Dissemination Committee of the protocol, delivery of webinars on recent team publications, appointment of leaders at the national and international level, and outreach through partnerships, were the strategies used for the development of the research. However, the barriers turned out to involve different aspects.
Conclusions: Collaborative work allows establishing networks between different professionals with the goal of improving the quality of management, health policies and care of our patients in a timely manner of constant change.
