Abstract Endoscopic esophageal stent placement is an effective palliative treatment for malignant strictures and has also been successfully used for benign indications, including esophageal refractory strictures and iatrogenic leaks and perforations. Despite several decades of evolution and the wide variety of esophageal stents available to choose from, an ideal stent that is both effective and without adverse events such as stent migration, tissue ingrowth, or pressure necrosis has yet to be developed. This paper is an overview of how this evolution happened, and it also addresses the characteristics of some of the currently available stents, like their material and construction, delivery device, radial and axial force pattern, covering and size which may help to understand and avoid the occurrence of adverse events. The insertion delivery systems and techniques of placement of an esophageal self-expandable metal stent are reviewed, as well as some tips and tricks regarding placement and management of adverse events.

Abstract Civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems and legal identity systems have become increasingly recognized as catalytic both for inclusive development and for monitoring population dynamics spanning the entire life course. Population scientists have a long history of contributing to the strengthening of CRVS and legal identity systems and of using vital registration data to understand population and development dynamics. This paper provides an overview of the

Abstract In this work, by considering superstatistics we investigate the short-range correlations (SRCs) and the fluctuations in the distribution of lengths of strings of nucleotides. To this end, a stochastic model provides the distributions of the size of the exons based on the q-Gamma and inverse q-Gamma distributions. Specifically, we define a time series for exon sizes to investigate the SRC and the fluctuations through the superstatistics distributions. To test the model's viability, we use the Project Ensembl database of genes to extract the time evolution of exon sizes, calculated in terms of the number of base pairs (bp) in these biological databases. Our findings show that, depending on the chromosome, both distributions are suitable for describing the length distribution of human DNA for lengths greater than 10 bp. In addition, we used Bayesian statistics to perform a selection model approach, which revealed weak evidence for the inverse q-Gamma distribution for a considerable number of chromosomes.

Abstract Lattice defects may work as a kind of apparatus for catching topological excitations, preventing their escape. So, the problem of removing skyrmions from eventual local defects in magnetic materials must be closely related to new technologies such as skyrmionic. Here, we examine the conditions for drawing a skyrmion from a magnetic impurity in a two-dimensional antiferromagnetic system by applying spin-polarized currents (SPC). Two types of impurities are investigated (local easy-axis and easy-plane anisotropy defects). Also, two methods to release the skyrmion with SPC are explored. In principle, our results could be qualitatively relevant to any other type of lattice defect.

Abstract In 1994, Jansen and Oerding predicted an interesting anomalous tricritical dynamic behavior in three-dimensional models via renormalization group theory. However, we highlight the lack of literature about the computational verification of this universal behavior. Here, we use some tricks to capture the log corrections and the parameters predicted by these authors using the three-dimensional Blume-Capel model. We quantify the crossover phenomena by computing the critical exponents near the tricritical point. In addition, we also perform a more detailed study of the dynamic localization of the phase diagram via power-law optimization.

Abstract Fake news has been the focus of debate, especially since the election of Donald Trump (2016), and remains a topic of concern in democratic countries worldwide, given (a) their threat to democratic systems and (b) the difficulty in detecting them. Despite the deployment of sophisticated computational systems to identify fake news, as well as the streamlining of fact-checking methods, appropriate fake news detection mechanisms have not yet been found. In fact, technological approaches are likely to be inefficient, given that fake news are based mostly on partisanship and identity politics, and not necessarily on outright deception. However, as disinformation is inherently expressed linguistically, this is a privileged room for forensic linguistic analysis. This article builds upon a forensic linguistic analysis of fake news pieces published in English and in Portuguese, which were collected since 2019 from acknowledged fake news outlets. The preliminary empirical analysis reveals that fake news pieces employ particular linguistic features, e.g. at the levels of typography, orthography and spelling, and morphosyntax. The systematic identification of these features, which will allow mapping linguistic resources and patterns used in those contexts, contributes to scholarship, not only by enabling a streamlined development of computational detection systems, but more importantly by permitting the forensic linguistics expert to assist criminal investigations and give evidence in court.

Title translation A good use of Spanish in medical manuscripts.
Abstract Wording problems are common in medical literature. The essence of any scientific work is to be understandable. A correct writing technique allows to communicate with the reader in an easy and accessible way, without disregarding proper grammatical and orthographic rules. This work is an updated guideline for the proper writing of biomedical manuscripts in Spanish. It avoids cumbersome grammatical explanations, aiming to become a simple material available for quick consultation.
