    Abstract
<title>SETTING</title>The Portuguese municipalities of Penafiel and Marco de Canaveses are high TB incidence areas, where stone quarry workers represent a vulnerable population.
<title>OBJECTIVE</title>To assess the annual rate of TB infection (ARI) in stone quarry workers and to compare it with the TB notification rate in the general community.
<title>DESIGN</title>An annual TB infection screening strategy using interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) was implemented in 2018 for workers from high-risk stone quarries. A prospective cohort was enrolled and workers screened in periods of 2 years were included. IGRA-positive workers were referred for preventive treatment. ARI was calculated as the proportion of workers with IGRA conversion.
<title>RESULTS</title>Of the 232 IGRA-negative workers in 2018, 20 tested positive in 2019 (8.6% ARI). Of 171 IGRA-negative workers in 2019, eight tested positive in 2021 (4.7% in 2 years). Two of the 150 IGRA-negative workers in 2021 tested positive in 2022 (1.3% ARI). ARI decreased by 84.9% between 2019 and 2022. In the two municipalities, the TB notification rate declined 23.9% between 2018 and 2021.
<title>CONCLUSION</title>A more pronounced reduction in ARI was observed among stone quarry workers regularly screened for TB infection compared to the notification rate among the general population in high-incidence municipalities. A screening strategy for high-risk populations, together with enforced community measures, could foster risk reduction in the community.
.

Abstract Introduction: Computed tomographic (CT) phenotypic patterns of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) identify different clinical features of disease. The impact of these variables on the physiological response to exercise has been the focus of a great deal of research as it allows more individualized clinical approaches. The aim of our study was to evaluate the relationships between CT phenotyping of subjects with COPD and the ventilatory response during cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET).
Methods: Subjects with COPD were classified into four phenotypes based on CT metrics of emphysema (low attenuation area less than a threshold of -950 Hounsfield [%LAA-950]) and airwall thickness (bronchial wall area percentage [%WA]).
Results: Eighty COPD patients (78.8% males, median age 65±11.3 years) were enrolled in the study. Based on CT phenotype, 25 (31.3%) patients were classified as normal, 27 (33.8%) air dominant, 17 (21.3%) emphysema dominant and 11 (13.8%) mixed type. The emphysema and mixed phenotypes showed the highest ventilatory equivalent for carbon dioxide (V
Conclusion: Emphysema (%LAA) and airways metrics (%WA) had strong relationships with the different characteristics of ventilatory response to exercise in subjects with mild to moderate COPD. In particular, %LAA seemed to play an important role as an independent predictor of V

Abstract Introduction: Even though the prevalence rate of diabetes in Portugal is one of the highest in Europe, no studies on the association between patient centered medicine, diabetes self-care, and glycemic control have been published. Assuming that patient centered medicine increases adherence to treatment through the improvement of the doctor-patient relationship, the aim of this study was to assess the influence of patient-centered medicine on the self-care of patients with type 2 diabetes patients' (T2DM) in two Family Health Units in Central Portugal, according to gender and age.
Material and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in two Family Health Units in Central Portugal between the 25th November 2021 and the 15th January 2022. Patients with type 2 diabetes were invited to fill in the Patient-Centered Medicine questionnaire, for patients (PCM-p) (where higher values represent worse results) and the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities Measure (SDSCAM), (where higher values represent better results), while healthcare professionals filled in the epidemiologic variables on pre-defined days.
    Results: A sample of 298 patients with type 2 diabetes was studied. Linear regressions for the association between SDSCAM scale factors and PCM-p showed significant associations for general diet (β = -0.07, p < 0.001), specific diet (β = -0.10, p < 0.001), exercise (β = -0.03, p = 0.008), foot care (β = -0.11, p < 0.001) and medication adherence in general (β = -0.06, p = 0.001). Multiple linear regression including the association between glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and the SDSCAM scale dimensions showed that specific diet was associated with lower HbA1c levels (β = -0.01, p = 0.007) and blood sugar testing (β = 0.01, p < 0.001) and that a higher score in PCMp was associated with higher HbA1c levels (β = 0.06, p < 0.001). Male patients (β = -6.93, p = 0.007) and older patients (β = -0.42, p = 0.001) were associated with lower scores in the specific diet. The male gender was associated with higher scores in exercise (β = 7.62, p = 0.029), lower scores in foot care (β = -6.06, p = 0.029) and lower scores in medication adherence to injectable medicines/6.2 (β = -0.73, p = 0.018). Age was associated with a lower score in medication (β = -0.03, p = 0.045) and a higher PCMp total score (β = 0.07, p = 0.030).
Conclusion: Patient-centered medicine in type 2 diabetics is associated with better self-care behaviors in patients with type 2 diabetes. Gender and age differences were observed in self-care behaviors and age differences were observed in Patient Centered Medicine.

Abstract Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused changes in technology use worldwide, both socially and economically. This pandemic crisis has brought additional measures such as contact-tracing apps (CTAs) to help fight against spread of the virus. Unfortunately, the low adoption rate of these apps affected their success. There could be many reasons for the low adoption, including concerns of security and privacy, along with reported issues of trust in CTAs. Some concerns are related with how CTAs could be used as surveillance tools or their potential threats to privacy as they involve health data. For example, in Estonia, the CTA named HOIA had approximately 250,000 downloads in the middle of January 2021. However, in 2021, only 4.7% of the population used HOIA as a COVID-19 CTA. The reasons for the low adoption include lack of competency, and privacy and security concerns. This lower adoption and the lack of trustworthiness persist despite efforts of the European Union in building ethics and trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI)-based apps.
Objective: The aim of this study was to understand how to measure trust in health technologies. Specifically, we assessed the usefulness of the Human-Computer Trust Scale (HCTS) to measure Estonians' trust in the HOIA app and the causes for this lack of trust.
Methods: The main research question was: Can the HCTS be used to assess citizens' perception of trust in health technologies? We established four hypotheses that were tested with a survey. We used a convenience sample for data collection, including sharing the questionnaire on social network sites and using the snowball method to reach all potential HOIA users in the Estonian population.
Results: Among the 78 respondents, 61 had downloaded the HOIA app with data on usage patterns. However, 20 of those who downloaded the app admitted that it was never opened despite most claiming to regularly use mobile apps. The main reasons included not understanding how it works, and privacy and security concerns. Significant correlations were found between participants' trust in CTAs in general and their perceived trust in the HOIA app regarding three attributes: competency (P<.001), risk perception (P<.001), and reciprocity (P=.01).
Conclusions: This study shows that trust in the HOIA app among Estonian residents did affect their predisposition to use the app. Participants did not generally believe that HOIA could help to control the spread of the virus. The result of this work is limited to HOIA and health apps that use similar contact-tracing methods. However, the findings can contribute to gaining a broader understanding and awareness of the need for designing trustworthy technologies. Moreover, this work can help to provide design recommendations that ensure trustworthiness in CTAs, and the ability of AI to use highly sensitive data and serve society.

Abstract Socioeconomic segregation has an important role in the emergence of large-scale inequalities in urban areas. Most of the available measures of spatial segregation depend on the scale and size of the system under study, or neglect large-scale spatial correlations, or rely on ad-hoc parameters, making it hard to compare different systems on equal grounds. We propose here a family of non-parametric measures for spatial distributions, based on the statistics of the trajectories of random walks on graphs associated to a spatial system. These quantities provide a consistent estimation of segregation in synthetic spatial patterns, and we use them to analyse the ethnic segregation of metropolitan areas in the US and the UK. We show that the spatial diversity of ethnic distributions, as measured through diffusion on graphs, allow us to compare the ethnic segregation of urban areas having different size, shape, or peculiar microscopic characteristics, and exhibits a strong association with socio-economic deprivation.

Abstract This study aims to explore whether consumers' attention to companies' green marketing communication influences their green purchase behaviour. It also analyses the importance of consumers' characteristics, namely gender, education, and green attitudes, in their attention to companies' green marketing communication. An online survey was carried out on the population residing in Portugal over 18 years of age, allowing us to collect 690 valid responses. Data analysis techniques including descriptive analyses, parametric and non-parametric tests, linear correlation, and regression analysis were used. The achieved results allow us to conclude that consumers are attentive to companies' green marketing communication. A strong correlation between consumers' attention to companies' green marketing communication and green purchasing behaviour was identified. The results also confirm that individuals with higher educational levels and green attitudes and females are the most attentive to companies' green marketing communication.
