Title translation When physicians and patients face the existential dimensions of illness.
Abstract Our self-consciousness allows us to know that we exist and to situate ourselves in the world. However, self-consciousness also makes us realize that our existence is characterized by vulnerabilities, that we are individuals with experiences which cannot be experienced by the other and that we will not escape finitude. This selfconsciousness is usually in the background of our mind but may be brought to centre stage in case of illnesses which evolve toward death. Certain disciplines of medicine try to consider the existential dimensions of disease. The question remains what medicine can offer in such situations and why and for whom interventions to increase the well-being of patients under existential threat are proposed. An analysis of these developments needs to focus not only on patients, but also the clinician, medicine, and society.

Title translation Towards a multilevel psychiatric liaison.
Abstract The first of this pair of articles ends with the observation that -psychiatric liaison activity remains underdeveloped. Moreover, -psychiatric liaison is not based on sound empirical foundations and is not taught, which has had the consequence of putting it out of step with the transformations of medicine and the medical profession. In this second article, we discuss possible evolutions of psychiatric liaison and the role that social sciences can play in them. Both -articles are related to the creation of the first position of Professor in psychiatric liaison by the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and the CHUV, a position held by a researcher from the social sciences.

Title translation Psychiatric liaison: From yesterday to tomorrow.
Abstract This article reviews the genesis and development of liaison psychiatry, whose mission is (i) taking care for patients with psychiatric comorbidities (psychiatric consultation) and (ii) transferring knowledge and skills to somatic medicine and supporting clinicians in their practice (psychiatric liaison). We argue for a strengthening of psychiatric liaison and a consistent focus on the clinician as an object-subject of research, of training and of support. The following article will discuss the contribution of social sciences and quali-tative research to medicine and psychiatric liaison and outline the contours of a clinician-centered liaison model.

Abstract Background: Calling within the medical context receives growing academic attention and empirical research has started to demonstrate its beneficial effects. The purpose of this study is to investigate what motivates students to enter medical school and what role calling may play (i), to evaluate if calling influences the way in which they experience their studies (ii), and to compare medical students' experience of calling with those of physicians.
Methods: A questionnaire survey was distributed among medical students (N = 1048; response rate above 60%) of the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. It was supplemented by a group discussion between bachelor medical students (N = 8) and senior physicians (N = 4), focusing on different facets of calling. An existing data set of a survey among physicians, addressing calling with the same questionnaire, was used to compare students' and physicians' attitudes towards calling. Survey data were analyzed with the habitual statistical procedures for categorical and continuous variables. The group discussion was analyzed with thematic analysis.
Results: The survey showed that experiencing calling is a motivational factor for study choice and influences positively choice consistency. Students experiencing calling differed from those who did not: they attributed different definitions to calling, indicated more often prosocial motivational factors for entering medical school and perceived the learning context as less burdensome. The analysis of the group discussion revealed that the concept of calling has a fluid definition. It was conceived as having the characteristics of a double-edged sword and as originating from within or outside or from a dialectic interplay between the inner and outer world. Finally, calling is experienced less often by physicians than by medical students, with a decreasing prevalence as the immersion in the clinical years of the study of medicine progresses.
Conclusions: Calling plays an important role in study choice and consistency of medical students. Given its relevance for medical students and its ramifications with the learning context, calling should become a topic of the reflexive parts of the medical curriculum. We critically discuss the role played by calling for medical students and provide some perspectives on how calling could be integrated in the reflection and teaching on physicianhood.

Abstract Due to their high specificity, monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have garnered significant attention in recent decades, with advancements in production processes, such as high-seeding-density (HSD) strategies, contributing to improved titers. This study provides a thorough investigation of high seeding processes for mAb production in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, focused on identifying significant metabolites and their interactions. We observed high glycolytic fluxes, the depletion of asparagine, and a shift from lactate production to consumption. Using a metabolic network and flux analysis, we compared the standard fed-batch (STD FB) with HSD cultivations, exploring supplementary lactate and cysteine, and a bolus medium enriched with amino acids. We reconstructed a metabolic network and kinetic models based on the observations and explored the effects of different feeding strategies on CHO cell metabolism. Our findings revealed that the addition of a bolus medium (BM) containing asparagine improved final titers. However, increasing the asparagine concentration in the feed further prevented the lactate shift, indicating a need to find a balance between increased asparagine to counteract limitations and lower asparagine to preserve the shift in lactate metabolism.

Title translation Kollusion revisited: Ein narrativer Überblick über dyadische Absprachen. (DeepL)
Abstract Collusion is a specific and potentially harmful transference-countertransference interaction. At its core is an unconscious, unresolved issue shared by two or more participants, who are interlocked in a defensive maneuver. The issue at stake, which is avoided at the intrapsychic level, externalized, and circulating in the interpersonal space, may pertain to control, intimacy, loss, or domination, among other possibilities. Collusion occurs not only in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, psychiatry, and medicine but also in couples and both within and between groups. This critical narrative review is based on a comprehensive consultation of the literature and our experiences as psychotherapists, supervisors, and researchers. We situate and delineate collusion, engage in a critical dialog with the literature and question some conceptual aspects of collusion. The aim of this review is to stimulate the interest of clinicians, supervisors, and researchers in this somewhat neglected phenomenon and to demonstrate and illustrate the challenges and pitfalls that clinicians face in collusive encounters. Finally, we provide clues to identify and ways of working through collusion in the context of psychotherapy and supervision.
