    Abstract Introduction: The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between astrocyte damage and different levels of cerebrospinal fluid markers and prognosis in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).
    Material and methods: A total of 168 SAH patients diagnosed and treated in the emergency department of our hospital during the period October 2019 to February 2022 were randomly selected as the study subjects. The severity of these patients' condition was evaluated by Hunt-Hess grading and these subjects were graded as the low-level group (78 patients) and high-level group (90 patients) according to the evaluation results. The Extended Disability Status Scale (EDSS) score was employed to evaluate the astrocyte damage. The content of atypical chemokine receptor 3 (ACKR3), Connexin 43 (Cx43), oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO 2 ), and endothelin (ET) in cerebrospinal fluid was measured. The relationship between the content of ACKR3, Cx43, HbO 2 , and ET in cerebrospinal fluid with EDSS score was analyzed through Pearson correlation analysis. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was adopted to analyze the risk factors.
    Results: ACKR3 was mainly expressed in the cytoplasm of cerebrospinal fluid monocytes, and Cx43 was mainly expressed in the cell membrane and cytoplasm. Patients in the high-level group had markedly higher expression rates of ACKR3 and Cx43 positive cells in cerebrospinal fluid than those in the low-level group ( p < 0.05). Patients in the high-level group had higher content of HbO 2 and ET in cerebrospinal fluid and EDSS score than patients in the low-level group ( p < 0.05). The content of ACKR3, Cx43, HbO 2 , and ET in cerebrospinal fluid of SAH patients was positively correlated with EDSS scores ( p < 0.05). Systolic blood pressure, Hunt-Hess grade, rebleeding, emotional control, EDSS score, ACKR3, Cx43 positive cell rate, and HbO 2 and ET expression levels were independent risk factors for the prognosis of SAH patients ( p < 0.05).
    Conclusions: Astrocyte damage in SAH patients was positively correlated with the content of ACKR3, Cx43, HbO 2 , and ET in cerebrospinal fluid. These indicators increased significantly with the increasing severity of the disease, and had certain value in reflecting the patient's condition. Astrocyte damage combined with cerebrospinal fluid markers had potential value in evaluating the severity and prognosis of patients.

    Abstract The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)+936 C/T polymorphism and the risk of type 2 diabetic retinopathy (T2DR) by a method of meta-analysis. Six online databases were queried to identify studies investigating the VEGF+936 C/T polymorphism that influenced T2DR up to August 2023. The statistical tool of the pooled data was adopted using Stata 15.0 software. The experimental group comprised patients with T2DR, while patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus without retinopathy were considered as the controls. The odds ratio (OR) was utilized as effect size. Eight eligible publications were identified in this review, including 1546 patients with T2DR. The combined results revealed that the VEGF+936 C/T polymorphism was significantly associated with the T2DR risk under the allelic (C/T: OR=0.54, p<0.001), the dominant (CC+CT/TT: OR=0.37, p<0.001), recessive (CC/CT+TT: OR=0.52, p=0.001), homozygous (CC/TT: OR=0.31, p<0.001), and heterozygous (CT/TT: OR=0.55, p=0.005) gene models. No significant correlation was observed regarding the VEGF+936 C/T polymorphism that contributed to the risk of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) versus non-PDR. In conclusion, the VEGF+936 C/T polymorphism significantly contributed to the T2DR risk. Specifically, at the VEGF+936 C/T locus, the presence of allele C and genotypes CC, CT, and CC+CT were found to be associated with a reduced risk of T2DR.

    Abstract Abstract Background Almost all patients with ovarian cancer will experience relapse and eventually develop platinum-resistant. The poor prognosis and limited treatment options have prompted the search for novel approaches in managing platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (PROC). Therefore, a meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination therapy with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) /VEGF receptor (VEGFR) inhibitors for PROC. Methods A comprehensive search of online databases was conducted to identify randomized clinical trials published until December 31, 2022. Pooled hazard ratios (HR) was calculated for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), while pooled odds ratio (OR) was calculated for objective response rate (ORR) and treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs). Subgroup analysis was further performed to investigate the source of heterogeneity. Results In total, 1097 patients from eight randomized clinical trials were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled HRs of OS (HR = 0.72; 95% CI: 0.62–0.84, p < 0.0001) and PFS (HR = 0.52; 95% CI: 0.45–0.59, p < 0.0001) demonstrated a significant prolongation in the combination group compared to chemotherapy alone for PROC. In addition, combination therapy demonstrated a superior ORR compared to monotherapy (OR = 2.34; 95%CI: 1.27–4.32, p < 0.0001). Subgroup analysis indicated that the combination treatment of VEGF/VEGFR inhibitors and chemotherapy was significantly more effective than monochemotherapy in terms of OS (HR = 0.71; 95% CI: 0.61–0.84, p < 0.0001), PFS (HR = 0.49; 95% CI: 0.42–0.57, p < 0.0001), and ORR (OR = 2.97; 95% CI: 1.89–4.67, p < 0.0001). Although the combination therapy was associated with higher incidences of hypertension, mucositis, proteinuria, diarrhea, and hand-foot syndrome compared to monochemotherapy, these toxicities were manageable and well-tolerated.     Abstract Silence is a common phenomenon in language learning where students stay silent, and it is potentially frustrating to instructors and not conducive to the foreign language input and output necessary for ongoing classroom-based language learning. Silence has been investigated initially in the face-to-face classroom and discussed thoroughly over the years. Most studies emphasized the role of verbal interaction in language learning, while silence exists in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts as a part of the interaction. Rare research investigates silence in face-to-face EFL learning contexts using phenomenography to understand students ways of experiencing silence. Therefore, this study aims to explore how Vietnamese undergraduates experience silence in face-to-face EFL learning using phenomenography at a Vietnamese university. Data were conducted through semi-structured interviews with 15 Vietnamese undergraduates analyzed following the phenomenographic principles to identify each conception s referential and structural aspects. Eleven categories were found following five main conceptions of silence, namely, sociocultural dimension, affective dimension, psycho-linguistic dimension, interactive dimension, and individual dimension. The findings illustrate the multilayers and complexities of students silence in face-to-face EFL context and point out new findings to discover potentially in EFL. It implies that silence can be a powerful tool for students learning, so understanding multifaceted students silence will enhance educators pedagogical practices in foreign language teaching and learning. This study also implies that educators should understand students social self and self to create a learning atmosphere for individual differences.
