    Abstract Introduction: Due to its high transmissibility and immune escape, Omicron subvariant BA.5 has become the dominant strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and led to escalating COVID-19 cases, how to cope with it becomes an urgent issue. A BA.5 infection surge burst out on 18 June 2022 and brought an unprecedented challenge to Macau, the most densely populated region worldwide. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of this outbreak and summarize the useful anti-epidemic measures and experiences during this outbreak.
    Methods: All data were obtained from the Government Portal of Macao SAR (https://www.gov.mo), and the Special Webpage Against Epidemics, the Macao Health Bureau (www.ssm.gov.mo). An epidemiologic study was performed to analyze epidemic outcomes, including the infection rate, the proportion of symptomatic cases, the case fatality ratio (CFR), etc. Data were analyzed using SPSS Version 20.     Results: The BA.5 outbreak resulted in 1,821 new cases, which was significantly more than the cumulative cases of the previous variants of COVID-19 in Macau. The symptomatic cases accounted for 38.71% of the total cases, which was higher than that of the previous variants. After 6-week concerted efforts, Macau effectively controlled the outbreak, with an infection rate of 0.27%, which was much lower than many BA.5-attacked regions. The CFR was approximately 0.86%, which was not statistically different from that of previous variants. Six victims were chronically ill senior elders and their vaccination rate was much lower than the average level. Macau took a comprehensive anti-epidemic strategy to win a quick victory against BA.5, especially the "relatively static" strategy that was first formulated and applied by Macau for the management of the COVID-19 pandemic. Successful experience showed that although BA.5 was highly contagious, it could be contained by comprehensive anti-epidemic measures, including adequate anti-epidemic preparation, herd immunity through vaccination, repeated mass nucleic acid tests and rapid antigen tests, KN-95 mask mandate, the "relatively static" strategy, precise prevention and control, epidemiological investigation and tracing, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment, etc.
    Discussion: In Macau, compared with the previous subvariants, BA.5 is associated with increased transmissibility and a higher proportion of symptomatic cases, however, the risk of death remains similar, and the infection rate is much lower than that in many other BA.5-attacked regions. BA.5 is highly contagious but still containable, Macau's experience may offer hints for the regions experiencing the BA.5 waves to choose or adjust a more rational anti-epidemic strategy.

    Abstract Background: Epidemiological studies of citrus consumption in relation to melanoma risk have yielded conflicting results. This meta-analysis was performed to investigate the dose-response association between citrus consumption and risk of melanoma.
    Methods: Relevant prospective cohort studies were identified by searching PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases up to February 28th, 2022. Results from individual studies were pooled using a random-effects model.
    Results: Five prospective studies, with 8,836 melanoma cases and 977,558 participants, were included in the meta-analysis. A significantly increased risk of melanoma was associated with the highest categories of either total citrus products (RR: 1.20; 95% CI: 1.01-1.42) or citrus fruit consumption (1.15; 1.04-1.28), but consumption of citrus juice was not associated with melanoma risk (1.08; 0.97-1.21). The dose-response analyses revealed that for per 1 serving/day increase in total citrus or citrus fruit consumption, the risk of melanoma increased by 9 and 12%, respectively. An inverted U-shaped curvilinear relationship, but not linear association, was observed between citrus juice consumption and melanoma risk.
    Conclusions: Citrus consumption was generally associated with a greater risk of malignant melanoma. Our findings may have important public health implications with respect to preventing melanoma.

    Abstract Background: The suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) is the negative feedback regulator of the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. The purpose of our study was to investigate the SOCS3 status in colon primary tumor and lung metastasis and its relationship with macrophages.
    Methods: The SOCS3 expression pattern and its relationship with the immune response in pan-cancer was investigated using multiple methods. Samples and corresponding clinical information of 32 colon cancer patients with lung metastasis were collected, and the CD68, CD163, and SOCS3 status were conducted using immunohistochemistry (IHC). The relationship between SOCS3 status and macrophage markers was analyzed. Besides, we explored the molecular mechanisms of SOCS3 in lung metastasis
    Results: High SOCS3 expression was more inclined to poor prognosis and was positively correlated with main immune cell infiltration in almost each cancer type, especially in colon cancer. Compared with the colon primary tumor, lung metastasis harbored higher CD163 and SOCS3 expression, and high SOCS3 expression was more likely to be associated with high CD163 expression in lung metastasis. Besides, the exceptional differentially expressed genes in lung metastasis significantly enriched in immune responses and regulations.
    Conclusions: SOCS3 possessed value as a prognostic marker and target for immunotherapeutic intervention in different tumors and might be a potential target of tumor progression and tumor immunotherapy in colon cancer.

    Abstract Resistance to anticancer drugs is a major problem in oncology, which causes the failure of antitumor treatment. A variety of factors contribute to drug resistance, including drug efflux and metabolism, tumor cell heterogeneity, tumor microenvironment stress-induced genetic or epigenetic alterations in the cancer cells and so on. However, how to circumvent this resistance to improve anticancer efficacy remains to be determined. To circumvent chemotherapeutic resistance, many reversal agents have been developed, but most of them fail in clinical trials due to severe adverse effects. Recently, several natural products have been reported to augment sensitivity or overcome resistance of anticancer chemotherapeutic drugs, including elemene, curcumin, Shenqi Fuzheng Injection (), PHY906, etc. Thus, understanding the novel function of Chinese medicine may allow us to develop a promising therapeutic approach to enhance the effects of anticancer strategies and prevent or overcome their resistance in the treatment of cancer patients.

    Abstract Fusion selenophene endows the chromophore with more intrinsic and special functions. Herein, nonsymmetric selenophene-fused BODIPYs were designed and synthesized starting from the selenophene unit. The fused ring of selenophene not only maintains the rigid structure of BODIPY but also further modulates its spectral properties. The newly prepared dyes possessed many promising properties including large molar extinction coefficients, low fluorescence quantum yields, and moderate singlet oxygen generation. Quantum calculations affirmed that the smaller singlet-triplet energy gap and larger spin-orbit coupling cause efficient intersystem crossing, thus enhancing the singlet oxygen generation yield. Furthermore, selenophene-fused BODIPY exhibited significant phototoxicity with negligible dark cytotoxicity, based on the fluorescence imaging of the reactive oxygen species detection experiment.

Maintaining intracellular zinc balance is crucial in the context of cancer. Human cells rely on two families of transmembrane transporters, SLC30A/ZNT and SLC39A/ZIP, to coordinate zinc homeostasis.     Abstract Tumor vaccines have been considered a promising therapeutic approach for treating cancer in recent years. With the development of sequencing technologies, tumor vaccines based on neoantigens or genomes specifically expressed in tumor cells, mainly in the form of peptides, nucleic acids, and dendritic cells, are beginning to receive widespread attention. Therefore, in this review, we have introduced different forms of neoantigen vaccines and discussed the development of these vaccines in treating cancer. Furthermore, neoantigen vaccines are influenced by factors such as antigen stability, weak immunogenicity, and biosafety in addition to sequencing technology. Hence, the biological nanomaterials, polymeric nanomaterials, inorganic nanomaterials, etc., used as vaccine carriers are principally summarized here, which may contribute to the design of neoantigen vaccines for improved stability and better efficacy.

    Abstract This meta-analysis evaluates the clinical evidence for the addition of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-based regimens for colorectal cancer (CRC) in terms of tumor response rate (TRR). Five electronic databases were searched for randomized controlled trials of 5-FU-based chemotherapy combined with TCMs compared to the same 5-FU-based regimen. Forty-five randomized controlled trials were involved in this study, and all the data were analyzed by Stata software (version 14.0).     Abstract Organoboron complexes have gained considerable attention owing to their versatile chemical structures and excellent optical properties. Nevertheless, stable seven-membered organoboron complexes have rarely been reported because of their challenging synthesis. Herein, seven-membered N,O-boron-chelated dyes, whose photophysical properties have been thoroughly studied via spectroscopic tests and theoretical calculations, were synthesized from commercially available materials via a facile method. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies provided evidence of their seven-membered ring N,O-boron-chelated skeleton. These complexes produced singlet oxygen species under laser irradiation, endowing them with potential application as a photosensitizer to treat superficial tumors (B16 cells). Our study provided a new skeleton to construct versatile organoboron compounds and offered a strategy to design heavy-atom-free photosensitizers.
