Abstract As a major component of the human body, the extracellular matrix (ECM) is a complex biopolymer network. The ECM not only hosts a plethora of biochemical interactions but also defines the physical microenvironment of cells. The physical properties of the ECM, such as its geometry and mechanics, are critical to physiological processes and diseases such as morphogenesis, wound healing, and cancer. This review provides a brief introduction to the recent progress in understanding the mechanics of ECM for researchers who are interested in learning about this relatively new subject of biophysics. This review covers the mechanics of a single ECM fiber (nanometer scale), the micromechanics of ECM (micrometer scale), and bulk rheology (greater than millimeter scale). Representative experimental measurements and basic theoretical models are introduced side by side. After discussing the physics of ECM mechanics, the review concludes by commenting on the role of ECM mechanics in healthy and tumorigenic tissues and the open questions that call for future studies at the interface of fundamental physics, engineering, and medical sciences.

Abstract The biomass gasification coupled power generation project of a power plant is the first biomass gasification and coal-fired coupled power generation project using agricultural and forestry biomass residues as the main fuel in China, and has completed 72+24 hours of full load test run in September 2018. With the formulation of relevant standards, in order to further improve the overall operational capacity of the project, and give full play to the demonstration significance of the national coal-fired coupling power generation technology transformation pilot project, scientific and technological research has been carried out in such aspects as electricity metering. By upgrading the electricity metering system, on the one hand, it can meet the latest technical requirements of the electric power industry standard “Coal fired coupled biomass power generation biomass energy calculation Part 1: Agricultural and forestry waste gasification coupling”, on the other hand, it can solve the problems encountered in existing equipment such as short operation time, large maintenance volume, and low accuracy of gas composition detection, improving equipment stability, while reducing heat value loss, and reducing production costs, Improve production efficiency. At the same time, after the heat value analyzer is changed, the measured heat value loss is reduced by 20%. Based on the annual utilization hours of the gasifier, about 6400 tons of biomass fuel loss can be recovered in one year, and the annual fuel cost recovered is about 2.56 million yuan.

Abstract The development of integrated circuits has increased the size of chip interconnects, which has brought challenges to interconnect design in chip packages. The closer the spacing between interconnects, the higher the space utilization, which can cause severe crosstalk problems in high-speed circuits. In this paper, we applied delay-insensitive coding to the design of high-speed package interconnects. We also analyzed the effect of delay-insensitive coding on crosstalk improvement in package interconnects at 26 GHz for its high crosstalk immunity. Compared to the synchronous transmission circuit, the 1-of-2 and 1-of-4 encoded circuits designed in this paper can reduce crosstalk peaks by 22.9% and 17.5% on average at a wiring spacing of 1-7 μm, which can achieve closer wiring spacing.

Abstract Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) are beneficial microorganisms widely utilized in food fermentation processes and as probiotic supplements. They offer multifarious health benefits, including enhancing digestion, strengthening immune mechanisms, and mitigating inflammation. Recent studies suggest that LAB might be instrumental in the anti-aging domain, modulating key molecular pathways involved in the aging continuum, such as IL-13, TNF-α, mTOR, IFN-γ, TGF-β, AMPK, and GABA. The TLR family, particularly TLR2, appears pivotal during the primary cellular interactions with bacteria and their byproducts. Concurrently, the Sirtuin family, predominantly Sirtuin-1, plays diverse roles upon cellular stimuli by bacterial components. The potential anti-aging benefits postulated include restoring gut balance, enhancing antioxidant potential, and fortifying cognitive and mental faculties. However, the current body of evidence is still embryonic and calls for expansive human trials and deeper mechanistic analyses. The safety and optimal consumption metrics for LAB also warrant rigorous evaluation. Future research trajectories should identify specific LAB strains with potent anti-aging properties and unravel the underlying biological pathways. Given the promising implications, LAB strains stand as potential dietary contenders to foster healthy aging and enrich the quality of life among the elderly population.
