Abstract The Clouds and the Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES) project now has over 15 years accurately observed top-of-the-atmosphere (TOA) flux record for climate monitoring and diagnostic studies. The CERES flux-by-cloud-type dataset, which contains cloud properties and radiative fluxes for 42 cloud types sorted by cloud top pressure and cloud optical depth, is used to investigate the clouds and their associated TOA (top-of-the-atmosphere) fluxes changes over the tropical area during ENSO events during the observed period. Unlike past studies, this study shows the impact of ENSO on cloud properties like optical depth, cloud top effective pressure and temperature and TOA LW and SW fluxes for each sub cloud type. The study reveals the detailed contributions from different cloud types for radiative characteristics during different phases of ENSO. This is especially important for very small net TOA radiative balance due to the cancellation of the fluxes from different cloud types. To further demonstrate the usefulness of this dataset, NCAR Community Atmosphere Model (CAM) is used to simulate the cloud and radiative changes during the period. The model cloud properties are converted to MODIS like cloud properties using modified MODIS simulator. The dataset serves as a more stringent validation of the model for cloud properties and radiative fluxes.

Abstract The automatic evaluation of the teaching effect has been a technical problem for many years. Because only video frames are available for it, and the information extraction from such dynamic scenes still remains challenging. In recent years, the progress of deep learning has boosted the application of computer vision in many areas, which can provide much insight into the above issue. As a consequence, this paper proposes a vision sensing-based automatic evaluation method for teaching effects based on deep residual network (DRN). The DRN is utilized to construct a backbone network for sensing from visual features such as attending status, taking notes, playing phones, looking outside, etc. The extracted visual features are further selected as the basis for the evaluation of the teaching effect. We have also collected some realistic course images to establish a real-world dataset for the performance assessment of the proposal. The proposed method is implemented on collected datasets via computer programming-based simulation experiments, so as to obtain accuracy assessment results as measurement. The obtained results show that the proposal can well perceive typical visual features from video frames of courses and realize automatic evaluation of the teaching effect.

Abstract The Imperial Medical College (Guo Zi Jian Yi Ke) in the Northern Song Dynasty was established for training Confucian physicians. The medical graduates from this college were granted superior official recognition but still received equal opportunities for their career advancement as other graduates for arts. This was partly because medical graduates were not well respected at that time and partly because the then government attempted to encourage more people to learn medicine. On the other hand, this official system seems to have not been successful in the purpose of training Confucian physicians because they were given more opportunities to be granted as governors of states or counties rather than remaining as Confucian physicians. However, the official system for the medical graduates showed the encouragement and the respect to Confucian physicians from the then government. It changed the medical views of upper class and promoted the development of traditional Chinese medicine.

Abstract In today's society, people with poor mental ability are prone to neuropsychiatric diseases such as anxiety, ADHD, and depression due to long-term negative emotions. Although conventional Western medicine has certain curative effect, these drugs have significant anticholinergic side effects central toxicity as well as cardiovascular and gastrointestinal side effects which limit their application in the elderly. At present, several antidepressants used in clinic have certain limitations. According to the symptoms of depression, this paper proposes a feedback emotion regulation method of brain-computer interface music therapy. This method uses special music stimulation to regulate the release of inhibiting sex hormones in the body, reduce the influence of negative emotions on the internal environment of the body, and maintain the steady state of the body. In this method, EEG is used as the emotional control signal of depressed patients, and this biological signal is transformed into music that depressed patients can understand, so as to clarify their physiological and psychological state and realize emotional self-regulation by feedback.

Abstract Approximately half of the existing winged-insect species are of very small size (wing length about 0.3-4 mm); they are referred to as miniature insects. Yet until recently, much of what we know about the mechanics of insect flight was derived from studies on relatively large insects, such as hoverflies, honey bees and hawkmoths. Because of their very small size, many miniature insects fly at a Reynolds number (Re) on the order of 10 or less. At such a low Re, the viscous effect of the air is very large: A miniature insect moves through the air as would a bumble bee move through mineral oil. Miniature insects must use new flapping mode and new aerodynamic mechanisms to fly. Over the past decade, much work has been done in the study of the mechanics of flight in miniature insects: novel flapping modes have been discovered and new mechanisms of aerodynamic force generation have been revealed; progress has also been made on the fluid-mechanics related flight problems, such as flight power requirements and flight dynamic stability. This article reviews these developments and discusses potential future directions.

Abstract Barrier Lyapunov functions are suitable for learning control designs, due to their feature of finite duration tracking. This paper presents fractional barrier Lyapunov functions, provided and compared with the conventional ones in the error-constraint learning control designs. Two error models are adopted and the desired compensation control approach is applied for a non-parametric design, allowing two kinds of uncertainties involved in the error dynamics. Theoretical results about existence of the solution and convergence of the learning control schemes are presented. It is shown that fully-saturated learning algorithms play important role in assuring boundedness of the estimates, by which the error constraint objective can be achieved. Moreover, the robust technique is developed through modifying the discontinuous action involved in the learning control scheme that yields the expected tracking performance in the presence of residual.

Abstract Thanks to its adjustable interlayer distance, large specific surface area, abundant active sites, and diverse surface functional groups, MXene has always been regarded as an excellent candidate for energy storage materials, including supercapacitors and ion batteries. Recent studies have also shown that MXene can serve as an efficient hydrogen storage catalyst. This review aims to summarize the latest research achievements in the field of MXene, especially its performance and application in energy storage. Different synthesis techniques have different effects on the energy storage performance of MXene. In this review, various common synthesis methods and the latest innovations in synthesis methods are discussed. MXene is prone to oxidation, and how to resist oxidation is also an important topic in MXene research. This article introduces the research results on improving the chemical stability of MXene through annealing. In addition, it aims to gain a deeper understanding of the future development and potential of MXene.
