Abstract This book provides essential insights into microbial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, and the anti-microbial drug resistance of various human pathogens on the basis of various model organisms. The initial sections of the book introduce readers to the mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, anti-microbial drug resistance, and the dynamics of biofilm formation. Due to the emergence of various microbial resistant strains, it is especially important to understand the prognosis for microbial infections, disease progression profiles, and mechanisms of resistance to antibiotic therapy in order to develop novel therapeutic strategies. In turn, the second part of the book presents a comparative analysis of various animal models to help readers understand microbial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, anti-microbial drug discovery, anti-biofilm therapeutics, and treatment regimes. Given its scope, the book represents a valuable asset for microbiologists, biotechnologists, medical professionals, drug development researchers, and pharmacologists alike.

Abstract The main objective of this research is to examine the association between personality traits such as conscientiousness and neuroticism and social loafing behavior of employees with moderating impact of individualistic behaviors. A multi correlational survey was used to investigate and analyze this study. The survey sample consisted of 241 supervisors and subordinates who attended a survey at manufacturing firms operating in three South Asian countries e.g., Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India. In the data analysis, a reliability and validity test were conducted and then correlation and regression analyses were used to investigate the results. Statistically substantial differences on some study variables were perceived vis-à-vis cultural traits. Correlation and regression verdicts exhibited that there was a substantial negative association between conscientiousness and social loafing, and a positive association between neuroticism and social loafing. Furthermore, this relationship between variables was strengthened when an individual behavior was included as moderator.

Abstract Graphene (Gr) and Carbon nanotube (CNT) saturable absorbers (SAs) are considered as broadband absorbers and have been used in various studies in the past to get a broad wavelength and pulse duration tunable laser. However, the literature lacks a comparative study on these SAs where one will continue to give longer pulses than the other. In this paper we have compared these two SAs and provided a guideline on how to design them for tunable operation. The parameters that have been compared in this research can be used for other broad gain materials and SAs.

Abstract Saturable Absorber (SA) is a key element of any passive mode-locked laser system to provide ultrashort laser system. So far various materials have been proposed that could be used for this purpose. However, the field is still looking for new ways to make the fabrication process easier and cost-effective. Another challenge in testing mode-locked laser systems using various SA samples is the lack of knowledge in preparing these by laser physicists given this is outside their remit of expertise. In this study, we have proposed a novel method to produce these SAs from plastic materials and glycol. Our new method relies upon increase in thickness up to a value where the modulation depth is enough to give stable ultrashort pulses. Although we have shown this method for four materials; similar approach could be applied to any material. This will open the door of unlimited families of SAs that could be easily prepared and applied without any prior knowledge in material sciences.

Abstract The goal of this study is to investigate the direct and indirect relationships that exist between artificial intelligence (AI), social innovation (SI), and smart decision-making (SDM). This study used a survey design and collected cross-sectional data from South Korea and Pakistan using survey questionnaires. Four hundred sixty respondents from the public and private sectors were obtained and empirically analyzed using SPSS multiple regression. The study discovered a strong and positive mediating effect of SI between the relationship of AI and SDM, as predicted. Previous researchers have investigated some of the factors that influence the decision-making process. This study adds to the social science literature by examining the impact of a mediating factor on decision-making. The findings of this study will contribute to the local government in building smart cities such that the factor of social innovations should be involved in the decision-making process because smart decision-making would share such collected data with entrepreneurs, businesses, and industries and would benefit society and all relevant stakeholders, including such social innovators.
