Abstract This review paper offers a detailed analysis and summary of current studies related to energy management and carbon footprint reduction in university campuses. Using insights from different research papers, the review highlights the necessity for strategic and sustainable energy management approaches. The research reviewed explores a wide range of methodologies, including the examination of energy consumption, the identification of areas for improvement, the application of energy management and optimization techniques, and the use of renewable and sustainable energy strategies. It is evident from the review that successful energy management and carbon footprint reduction depend on energy management systems, integration of renewable energy, encouraging behavioural changes, and efficient resource use. The review paper is divided into six sections: understanding and enhancing energy consumption, Techniques for Energy Management and Optimization, random and systematic approaches to energy management, Energy Management Systems and their Applications, approaches for sustainable and renewable energy and carbon footprint reduction techniques. The review also identifies areas of future research in the field. It aims to serve as a valuable guide for university administrators, energy managers, and researchers seeking to implement sustainable energy practices and reduce carbon emissions on university campuses.

Abstract Introduction: Platelet transfusions play a major role in preventing major haemorrhage and improve survival in severe thrombocytopenic patients. Generally, apheresis procedures are well tolerated. Systemic reactions are mainly vasovagal reactions and citrate toxicity is also one of the common reaction. Aim: To identify the profile of platelet donors associated with adverse events resulting from plateletpheresis donation. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was carried out for a period of three years. A total of 615 Single Donor Platelet (SDP) apheresis procedures were performed during study period. Both continuous and intermittent flow centrifugation cell separators (Fresenius Kabi and Trima Accel) were used for performing the procedures. Predonation donor platelet count and other procedure variables were analysed in relation to the adverse events noted using the Pearson correlation. Results: Age range of SDP varied from 19 years to 48 years. Platelet counts of the donors ranged from 1.6 to 4.5 lac/dL. Amongst the selected 615 donors, 15 (2.43%) had citrate related toxicity reactions, 2 (0.32%) had a vasovagal reactions, 8 (1.3%) had mild haematomas. Increase in the amount of Acid Citrate Dextrose (ACD) volume used (r=0.99, p-value <0.005), was associated with increased duration of the procedure and low donor platelet count. Among the donors who suffered adverse events, 22 (88%) were first-time platelet donors and 3 (12%) were repeat donors. Conclusion: The overall rate of acute adverse events, among healthy SDP in our study was very low. However, in the study citrate toxicity increased in donors with platelet count <2.5 lac/ dL. Precautions and close monitoring in such cases helps in decreasing the severity of citrate toxicity.

Abstract Salivary gland neoplasm are a diverse group of tumors which are often benign and commonly arise from the parotid gland. PubMed search engine was used to search for relevant articles. The main challenge in the management of these tumours is to distinguish them between benign and malignant types and treat them accordingly. FNAC is a very useful investigation in this regard with high accuracy. MRI or CT scan are also useful, in knowing the extent of lesion especially when the tumour involves the deep lobe or extends to parapharyngeal space. Most of the low grade tumours and benign lesions can be managed by surgery alone whereas high grade and advanced lesions will require adjuvant treatment in the form of radiotherapy. Chemotherapy is mostly used in the palliative set up, whereas molecular targeted therapy is still in experimental stage only. In this article, we review the literature to highlight the current understanding in the evaluation and management of salivary gland neoplasms.

Abstract Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has been used routinely in the diagnosis and follow-up of cardiac cases. Left atrial dissection (LAd), an exceedingly rare complication of cardiac surgery, is most commonly associated with mitral valve surgery. A case of LAd is presented, and the pathology was accurately defined and immediately diagnosed using intraoperative TEE. This case highlights the importance of prompt diagnosis of LAd using intraoperative TEE, and a second cardiac surgery was avoided.

Abstract Background: Ayurvedic drugs have been used since ancient times to treat diseases including periodontal diseases. Oral rinses made from ayurvedic medicines are used in periodontal therapy to control bleeding and reduce inflammation. The aim of this clinical study is to verify the efficacy of herbal mouthwash containing Pilu, Bibhitaka, Nagavalli, Gandhapura taila, Ela, Peppermint satva, and Yavani satva on reduction of plaque and gingivitis. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 volunteers with clinical signs of mild to moderate gingivitis were selected and assigned to Group A (only scaling done) and Group B (scaling along with the use of herbal mouthwash). After recording the clinical parameters, the patients were instructed to use herbal mouthwash 15 ml for 30 s twice daily after food in Group B and oral hygiene instructions were given to all patients. Plaque and gingivitis assessment were carried out using the plaque index (Silness nd Loe, 1964), Gingival index (Loe And Silness, 1963), Gingival bleeding index (Ainamo and Bay, 1975) at baseline and at 21 days of the herbal mouthwash use. Statistically analysis was carried out using the student′s t-test for normally distributed data and Wilcoxson test or Mann-Whitney U-test for skewed data. Results: Our results showed that herbal mouthwash was effective in treatment of plaque induced gingivitis in Group B when compared with the Group A. Conclusion: Herbal mouthwash is effective in treatment of plaque induced gingivitis and can be effectively used as an adjunct to mechanical therapy with lesser side-effects.

Abstract Background: Periodontitis and osteoporosis are two diseases found worldwide having the main characteristic of increasing intensity with age. Periodontitis is associated with resorption of the alveolar bone. Osteoporosis is characterized by bone loss leading to structural bone transformation. The association between periodontitis and osteoporosis is continually being examined. The aim of this study is to examine the condition of periodontal tissues in patients suffering from osteoporosis and establish a possible link.
Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study with 200 samples having test (n = 100) and control group (n = 100) were checked for periodontal condition. A total of 100 patients diagnosed as having osteoporosis based on bone mineral density at distal end of radius were regarded as test group and 100 subjects included in control group were healthy. Periodontal parameters measured were plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), and clinical attachment loss (CAL). Statistical test performed were Student's paired t-test and unpaired t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient.
Results: Probing depth and CAL were significantly negatively co-related with T-score in test group when compared with control group. This meant an inverse relationship in between the T-score and the clinical parameters, PD and CAL. Furthermore, some difference was noted in test group in PI, GI and PD, CAL and T-score when compared with the controls.
Conclusion: Thus, we conclude that there is a definite relationship between osteoporosis and periodontitis based on PD and CAL.
