Abstract This article presents the results of a research study about the experiences of women in Open Source Software communities. The lack of women in computing professions serves as a cause of social inequity and in this research we develop a nuanced understanding of the experiences of women participating in open-source software. In-depth qualitative interviews were conducted with eleven women representing multiple countries and a variety of open-source software projects. The theory of individual differences in gender and information technology (IT) laid the foundation for data analysis and interpretation. The results demonstrate varied experiences of women, the need for women-to-women mentoring, and the need for presence and enforcement of Codes of Conduct in the online communities. Women shared their experiences of working in a variety of roles and the importance of all the roles in product development and maintenance. The persistence of women in OSS communities despite the toxic masculine culture, and their interest in improving the environment for other women and marginalized newcomers, was evident from the interviews.

Abstract Introduction: In forensics, age and gender determination are required for victim identification. Secondary dentine deposition occurs throughout life, resulting in decreased pulp volume and size. Evaluation of pulp volume using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a non invasive method used to evaluate age and gender. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of the pulp volume method in determining age and gender. Materials and Methods: An observational study was conducted in the Oral Medicine and Radiology Department of King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India from July 2019 to August 2020. Pulp volume measurements were obtained from CBCT data of randomly selected individuals (n=90) aged 18-70 years, focusing on maxillary Central Incisors (CI) and maxillary Canine (C). Statistical analyses, including Chisquare test, Pearson’s correlation, linear regression, and logistic regression, were performed on the data. Results: The CBCT data from 90 individuals, aged 18-70 years, were evaluated for pulp volume of maxillary CI and C. The Pearson correlation coefficient indicated a decrease in pulp volume with age. The validation of the equations for sex determination revealed higher prediction accuracy for CI (56.70%) compared to C (53.30%). Conclusion: Pulp volume obtained from CBCT can serve as a reliable indicator for age estimation and gender prediction.

Abstract Nowadays, it is crucial to have effective road traffic signal timing, especially in an ideal traffic light cycle. This problem can be resolved with modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud and crowd computing. We hereby present a functional model named Cloud–Crowd Computing-based Intelligent Transportation System (CCCITS). This model aims to organize traffic by changing the phase of traffic lights in real-time based on road conditions and incidental crowdsourcing sentiment. Crowd computing is responsible for fine-tuning the system with feedback. In contrast, the cloud is responsible for the computation, which can use AI to secure efficient and effective paths for users. As a result of its installation, traffic management becomes more efficient, and traffic lights change dynamically depending on the traffic volume at the junction. The cloud medium collects updates about mishaps through the crowd computing system and incorporates updates to refine the model. It is observed that nature-inspired algorithms are very useful in solving complex transportation problems and can deal with NP-hard situations efficiently. To establish the feasibility of CCCITS, the SUMO simulation environment was used with nature-inspired algorithms (NIA), namely, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Ant Colony Optimization and Genetic Algorithm (GA), and found satisfactory results.

Abstract Interest in migrating to open source integrated library systems is continually growing in libraries. Along with the interest, lack of empirical research and evidence to compare the process of migration brings a lot of anxiety to the interested librarians. In this research, twenty librarians who have worked in libraries that migrated to open source ILS or are in the process of migrating were interviewed. The interviews focused on their experiences and the lessons learned in the process of migration. The results from the interviews are used to create guidelines/best practices for each stage of the adoption process of open source ILS. These guidelines will be helpful or librarians who want to research and/or adopt open source ILS.

Abstract Background: Pharmacotherapy with Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. (CdL) (Sanskrit name durva) has been described in Ayurvedic text. The traditional preparation of Cynodon dactylon, called swaras (juice), has rarely been evaluated for its phytochemical quality and phytomedicinal activities. Purpose: In this study, we aimed to perform the characterisation of phytochemicals, quantification of chemical markers, and evaluation of in vitro and ex vivo biological activity of CdL juice (durva swaras). Methods: The cultivated CdL (durva) was authenticated by a botanist, and macro–microscopic examination was performed before bio-deposition. Fresh green juice (S) of CdL was prepared and further lyophilised (JL); additionally, water (W), hydroalcoholic (HA), and alcoholic (A) extracts were prepared. The phytochemical constituents in all extracts were qualitatively analysed using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. The chemical markers in JL were identified and quantified using high performance liquid chromatography. To optimise biological activity, the age of the plant was evaluated as a factor influencing the antioxidant activity of S using an in vitro DPPH assay. In addition, an ex vivo proliferation assay of mouse splenocytes was performed after treatment with the extracts, and the effects of the extracts on immunomodulation and inflammatory cytokines were assessed. Results: The specific morphological characteristics of CdL, namely narrowly linear leaves with light-green stem, along with its macro–microscopic features were confirmed, and the plant specimen was bio-deposited. The phytoconstituents (range: 62–72 compounds) in all extracts were qualitatively confirmed. The chemical markers p-coumaric acid (0.48%) and trans-ferulic acid (0.35%) in JL were quantified. Plants aged 6 months and above showed the most potent activity. The free radical-scavenging activity of the extracts ranged from 60% to 75%; the IC50 of the extracts (range: approximately 450–650 μg/mL) was higher than that of vitamin C (2.8 μg/mL). The ...
