Abstract Concepts such as biorefinery and green chemistry focus on the usage of biomass, as with the oil value chain. However, it can cause less negative impact on the environment. A biorefinery based on sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) as feedstock is an example, because it can integrate into the same physical space, of processes for obtaining biofuels (ethanol), chemicals (from sugars or ethanol), electricity, and heat. The use of sugarcane as feedstock for biorefineries is dictated by its potential to supply sugars, ethanol, natural polymers or macromolecules, organic matter, and other compounds and materials. By means of conversion processes (chemical, biochemical, and thermochemical), sugarcane biomass can be transformed into high-value bioproducts to replace petrochemicals, as a bioeconomy model.

Abstract In this work, we derive a nonstandard finite difference scheme for the SICA (Susceptible-Infected-Chronic-AIDS) model and analyze the dynamical properties of the discretized system. We prove that the discretized model is dynamically consistent with the continuous, maintaining the essential properties of the standard SICA model, namely, the positivity and boundedness of the solutions, equilibrium points, and their local and global stability.

Abstract In [Math. Comput. Sci. 12 (2018), no. 2, 111--127], a delayed model describing the dynamics of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) with Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes (CTL) immune response is investigated by Allali, Harroudi and Torres. Here, we propose a discrete-time version of that model, which includes four nonlinear difference equations describing the evolution of uninfected, infected, free HIV viruses, and CTL immune response cells and includes intracellular delay. Using suitable Lyapunov functions, we prove the global stability of the disease free equilibrium point and of the two endemic equilibrium points. We finalize by making some simulations and showing, numerically, the consistence of the obtained theoretical results.

Abstract Purpose: This short presentation aims to indicate phonological features inherent to the sonorant consonant class (nasals and liquids) that might be relatively problematic in the orthographic records of these phonemes.
Methods: orthographic replacement in text compositions from children in the first grade of elementary school was analyzed. Data analysis was performed according to the Padrão de Aquisição de Contrastes (PAC).
Results: Results reveal that replacement was distributed between the two classes, and within each subclass, relatively unstable phonological contrasts were detected in the orthographic records of these phonemes.
Conclusion: This relative instability of contrasts pointed out phonological issues, as well as issues related to the orthographic complexity of each these segments, thus indicating a non-direct relation between speech and spelling.

Abstract The Nikaidoh operation continues to be used for patients with transposition of the great arteries, ventricular septal defect and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. We recently reported structural and functional changes in the aortic root during the follow-up of a patient who underwent the Nikaidoh operation. These changes necessitated re-operation. The pathophysiology of these changes and their potential for reversibility have not yet been studied. In this communication, we describe the extensive structural changes in the aortic wall of the same patient.

Abstract Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare five different neuroretinal rim (NRR) measurement methods, based on quadrants and NRR widths, in the assessment of the ISNT (inferior (I) > superior (S) > nasal (N) > temporal (T)) rule, and its variants IST (inferior (I) > superior (S) > temporal (S)) rule, IS (inferior (I) > superior (S)) rule and T (temporal is the thinnest) rule in a normal population. Factors influencing compliance with this rule and its variants were also evaluated.
Methods: Stereoscopic fundus images were analysed through a dichoptic viewing system. Two graders labelled the optic disc and cup, as well as the fovea. Custom-made software automatically determined the limits of the optic disc and cup and examined the ISNT rule and its variants using several NRR measurement methods.
Results: Sixty-nine subjects with normal eyes were enrolled. For the various NRR measuring methods, the percentage of eyes following the rules, that is, validity ranges were 0.0%-15.9% for the ISNT rule, 31.9%-59.4% for the IST rule, 46.4%-59.4% for the IS rule and 50.7%-100.0% for the T rule. Significant intra-measurement agreement ranges were IST (κ = 0.50-0.85), IS (κ = 0.68-1.00) and T (κ = 0.24-0.77). Only the IST and IS rules achieved significant inter-measurement agreement (κ = 0.47-1.00). After multivariate and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses, the vertical cup position cup
Conclusions: Only the IST and IS rules are valid for the same normal subjects. The most important factor affecting the validity of the ISNT rule and its variants was the anatomical cup position. NRR measurement agreements based on NRR quadrants exhibited larger validity and better agreement. The IST and IS rules can be combined with the alternative SIT (superior (S) > inferior (I) > temporal (T)) and SI (superior (S) > inferior (I)) rules to detect almost all normal subjects.

Abstract We compiled a database of firefly species records from the Atlantic Forest hotspot in Brazil and made it available at GBIF. Data were gathered from literature and from several key entomological collections, including: Coleção entomológica Prof. José Alfredo Pinheiro Dutra (DZRJ/UFRJ) and Coleção do Laboratório de Ecologia de Insetos from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (CLEI/UFRJ); Coleção Entomológica do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (CEIOC); Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP); Coleção Entomológica Pe. Jesus Santiago Moure from Universidade Federal do Paraná (DZUP/UFPR); and Coleção Entomológica from Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (UFRPE). This database represents the largest contribution to a public repository of recorded occurrences from Neotropical fireflies. This dataset shows the occurrence and abundance of firefly species in the Atlantic Forest hotspot. Firefly species endemic to this biome are also present and considered in the study. These data can assist scientific and societal needs, by supporting future research projects and conservation decision-making.

Abstract Objective: To assess if delayed amniotomy during labor induction is associated with adverse delivery outcomes.
Study design: Retrospective cohort study of women with a viable, singleton gestation who underwent labor induction at a tertiary-care hospital (4/2014-3/2017). Women were excluded if oxytocin was not used or if spontaneous rupture of membranes (ROM) occurred ≤8 h after oxytocin initiation. The primary outcome was cesarean delivery, and secondary outcomes included postpartum hemorrhage, maternal infectious morbidity, neonatal 5-min Apgar score <7, and neonatal intensive care unit admission. Women were compared by timing of amniotomy: delayed (ROM > 8 h after oxytocin initiation) versus not delayed. Multivariable logistic regression was used to estimate the association between delayed amniotomy and study outcomes.
Results: Of 2081 women who met inclusion criteria, 1125 (before 54%) had delayed amniotomy. Women with delayed amniotomy had ROM 12.7 h (IQR 10.0, 17.9) after oxytocin versus 5.0 h (IQR 3.7, 6.5) without delayed amniotomy. In multivariable regression, delayed amniotomy was associated with increasingly higher odds of cesarean as maternal obesity severity increased (aOR 1.58, 95 %CI 1.24-2.03 at BMI 30 kg/m
Conclusion: Delayed amniotomy >8 h after starting oxytocin for labor induction was associated with higher odds of cesarean delivery. Significant delay in ROM should be avoided during labor induction.

Abstract Macrovipera lebetina obtusa (MLO) is a venomous snake endemic to Middle East. Here we describe the therapeutic potential of the MLO snake venom. In S-180 sarcoma-bearing mouse model, we showed that the MLO snake venom inhibits tumour growth by 50%. In human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HMVEC-D), treatment with the MLO snake venom lead to an increase of expression levels of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), while the level of the expression of caspase 8 did not change. In HMVEC-D cells MLO snake venom induces necroptosis, rather than apoptosis. In the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay, exposure to MLO snake venom inhibited bFGF-induced angiogenesis by 22%. Taken together, these results indicate that the MLO snake venom has a potent cytotoxic activity. Regulated necroptic cell death pathway, which is engaged by MLO snake venom, may become a promising novel target for antitumor therapies.
