Abstract This triangulation mixed methods study employed the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to investigate the factors affecting continuance intention toward Coursera MOOCs blended learning (CMBL) with undergraduate students at a Vietnamese private higher education institution (HEI). IBM AMOS version 24 was employed, with which Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were used to examine the reliability and validity of the data collected from 637 students. Manual coding and thematic analysis of qualitative data collected from 30 interviewees, namely administrators, lecturers, curriculum developers, and students, were also conducted to identify the emerged themes and sub-themes. Content feature, social influence, and perceived usefulness were critical factors influencing the HEI students’ continuance intention to use CMBL. This study makes two significant contributions. First, we contribute to the literature from a theoretical standpoint by comparing factors influencing students’ acceptance of CMBL from critical stakeholders in a higher education institution. Second, our findings have practical implications on increasing undergraduate students’ acceptance of blended learning using MOOCs for the long term, which could provide beneficial pointers for HEIs planning to integrate MOOCs for teaching and learning within the higher education context.

Abstract The dataset provides large-scale assessment data of school students’ awareness (12 items), skills (11 items) and attitudes (09 items) regarding global citizenship in Vietnam. The questionnaire was built based on UNESCO's key learning outcomes for global citizenship education [1], criteria, scales and ideas for global citizens [2–4] and adapted to Vietnam's education context by experts and consultants. The survey sample was collected by cluster sampling method. Six provinces and cities, presenting for three main economic-social regions in Vietnam, were selected. In each city or province, we chose three districts in both advantage and disadvantage areas. In each district, one primary school, one lower secondary school and one upper secondary school joined the survey. The survey was conducted in May 2019 with responses from 2069 students, of whom 679 primary students (grade 4 and 5), 673 lower secondary students (grade 9) and 717 upper secondary students (grade 10 and 11). The data are presented with mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum and range of students’ responses to their perception, attitudes and behaviors concerning various themes of global citizenship education. In future, the dataset can be used for cross-national comparative studies on global citizenship to inform policymakers, educators and conduct further investigations global citizenship.

Abstract A dataset was constructed to examine Vietnamese student's learning habits during the time schools were suspended due to the novel coronavirus - SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), in response to a call for interdisciplinary research on the potential effects of the coronavirus pandemic (Elsevier, 2020). The questionnaires were spread over a network of educational communities on Facebook from February 7 to February 28, 2020. Using the snowball sampling method, researchers delivered the survey to teachers and parents to provide formal consent before they forwarded it to their students and children. In order to measure the influence of students’ socioeconomic status and occupational aspirations on their learning habits during school closures, the survey included three major groups of questions: (1) Individual demographics, including family socioeconomic status, school type, and occupational aspirations; (2) Student's learning habits, including hours of learning before and during the period of school suspension, with and without other people's support; and (3) Students’ perceptions of their self-learning during the school closures. There was a total of 920 clicks on the survey link, but only 460 responses accompanied by consent forms were received. Non-credible answers (e.g., year of birth after 2009, more than 20 hours of learning per day) were eliminated. The final dataset included 420 valid observations.

Abstract The effects of climate change including warming on nitrogen (N) availability and growth of Pinus merkusii in central Vietnam were investigated using the relationship between climate variables (rainfall and temperature) and tree-ring parameters (ring width, density, basal area increment, and N concentration) for the last five decades. Rainfall was not correlated with any tree-ring parameters, indicating that water availability did not limit tree growth in the study site probably due to sufficient rainfall. Temperature was positively correlated with ring N concentration, basal area increment, and ring density, probably reflecting the positive effects of warming on soil N mineralization, net photosynthesis, and cell wall thickness, respectively. Therefore, this study suggested that global warming during the last five decades increased N availability and the increased N further helped warming-induced increases in the growth of P. merkusii in central Vietnam.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic exerted an adverse influence on the global education system, especially since starting school lockdown. The growth of teacher unemployment figures climbed double-digit and spawned these unexpected sequels. For instance, while native teachers seemed indisposed to leave the profession with the aim of seeking another more profited and seasonal jobs, many ex-pat teachers presented themselves with moving or stayed dilemma in the way the government salvaged their situation. In preference with the ex-pat teacher's case, we elucidated further throughout an e-survey in the International Baccalaureate community on Facebook from 4 to 11 April 2020 for 18,000 ex-pat teachers, who are teaching at Southeast Asia. This dataset includes 307 responses of ex-pat teachers who are staying in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia during the pandemic. The dataset comprises (i) Survey partakers' Demographics; (ii) Ex-pat teachers' perceptions in the relation of national, regional and school plans were afoot to the pandemic; (iii) The degree of attachment of ex-pat teacher to their current society, the ex-pat community, friends, and families during the pandemic time; (iv) Ex-pat teachers' embryo intention to reconsider their current teaching location.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented damage to the educational system worldwide. Besides the measurable economic impacts in the short-term and long-term, there is intangible destruction within educational institutions. In particular, teachers – the most critical intellectual resources of any schools – have to face various types of financial, physical, and mental struggles due to COVID-19. To capture the current context of more than one million Vietnamese teachers during COVID-19, we distributed an e-survey to more than 2,500 randomly selected teachers from two major teacher communities on Facebook from 6th to 11th April 2020. From over 373 responses, we excluded the observations which violated our cross-check questions and retained 294 observations for further analysis. This dataset includes: (i) Demographics of participants; (ii) Teachers' perspectives regarding the operation of teaching activities during the pandemic; (iii) Teachers' received support from their schools, government bodies, other stakeholders such as teacher unions, and parents' associations; and (iv) teachers' evaluation of school readiness toward digital transformation. Further, the dataset was supplemented with an additional question on the teachers' primary source of professional development activities during the pandemic.

Abstract The overspread of the novel coronavirus—SARS-CoV-2—over the globe has caused significant damage to manufacturing and service businesses, regardless of whether they are commercial, public, or not-for-profit sectors. While both the short-term and long-term impacts of most companies can be approximately measured or estimated, it is challenging to address the enduring effects of COVID-19 on teaching and learning activities. The target of this research is to investigate students’ manners of studying at home during the school suspension time as a result of COVID-19. Through analyzing original survey data from 420 K6–12 students in Hanoi, Vietnam, this work demonstrates the different learning habits of students with different socioeconomic statuses and occupational aspirations during the disease’s outbreak. In particular, we featured the differences in students’ learning behaviors between private schools and public schools, as well as between students who plan to follow STEM-related careers and those who intend to engage in social science-related careers. The empirical evidence of this study can be used for the consideration of the local government to increase the sustainability of coming policies and regulations to boost students’ self-efficacy, as it will affect 1.4 million students in Hanoi, as well as the larger population of nearly 10 million Vietnamese students. These results can also be the foundation for future investigations on how to elevate students’ learning habits toward Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4)—Quality Education—especially in fanciful situations in which the regular school operation has been disrupted, counting with limited observation and support from teachers and parents.

Abstract BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Soil acidification is known to be one of the constraints of tree growth; however, it is unclear how it affects tree growth at photosynthesis level (i.e., through affecting stomatal conductance vs. carboxylation rate) during the growth of trees. This paper studied the effects of soil acidification on Pinus densiflora foliar chemistry and tree ring C isotope ratio (¹³C/¹²C, expressed as δ¹³C) and their relationship with tree growth. METHODS: Tree growth (diameter, annual growth ring area, and root biomass), soil chemistry (pH, mineral N, and exchangeable Ca and Al), foliage chemistry (N, Ca/Al, and δ¹³C), and tree ring δ¹³C in P. densiflora stands along a soil pH gradient (from 4.38 to 4.83, n = 9) in southern Korea were investigated. RESULTS: Overall, trees with relatively poor growth under more acidic soil conditions (low pH and Ca/Al) had lower values of foliar N concentration and δ¹³C and tree ring δ¹³C, suggesting that restricted N uptake under more acidic soil conditions caused N limitation for photosynthesis, leading to poor tree growth. In addition, relationships between mean annual area increment and carbon isotope discrimination of tree rings at five-yr intervals from 1968 to 2007 revealed that the impact of soil acidification on tree growth became severer during the last 15 yrs as negative correlations between them became significant after 1993. CONCLUSIONS: Reduced N uptake under acidic soil conditions resulted in lower radial growth of P. densiflora via non-stomatal limitation of photosynthesis.
