    Abstract Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a standard Lean tool for identifying and reducing waste. It is used to create value and improve the performance of any industry. The value of the VSM has greatly expanded from conventional to smart over time; hence, researchers and practitioners in this sector are paying more emphasis. Comprehensive review research is needed to understand VSM-based smart, sustainable development from a triple-bottom-line perspective. The primary goal of this research is to look at various insights from the historical literature that can help with the adoption of smart, sustainable development through VSM. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) with a fifteen-year time range (2008–2022) is being considered to study various insights and gaps in value stream mapping. Analysis of the significant outcomes presents an eight-point study agenda: year, national context, research method, sector, wastes, VSM type, applied tools, and analysis indicators. The critical finding implies that empirical qualitative research dominates the research sector. Effective VSM implementation requires balancing the three sustainable dimensions of economic, environmental, and social through digitalization. The circular economy should also bolster research on the intersection of sustainability applications and new digital paradigms such as industry revolution 4.0.

    Abstract Inflammation triggers immune system-mediated actions that contribute to the development of multiple diseases. Zymosan, a polysaccharide derived from the Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell wall, is mainly made up of glucan and mannan residues and is used as an inflammatory agent. Zymosan is a fungal product that activates the immune system through the activation of inflammatory signaling pathways, and releases a variety of harmful chemicals including pattern recognition receptors, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and the excitatory amino acid glutamate, cytokines, adhesion molecules, etc. Furthermore, we will dive into the molecular mechanistic insights through which this fungal agent induces and influences various inflammatory diseases such as cardiovascular, neuroinflammation, diabetes, arthritis, and sepsis. Based on the evidence, zymosan appears to be a promising inflammatory-inducing agent. Nonetheless, more animal data is the need of the hour to catch a glimpse and unravel the capacity of zymosan.

    Abstract Objective: Cut-offs for high-sensitivity troponin (hs-Tn) elevations to define prognostically significant peri-operative myocardial injury (PMI) in cardiac surgery is not well-established. We evaluated the associations between peri-operative high-sensitivity troponin T (hs-TnT) elevations and 1-year all-cause mortality in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Methods: The prognostic significance of baseline hs-TnT and various thresholds for post-operative hs-TnT elevation at different time-points on 1-year all-cause mortality following cardiac surgery were assessed after adjusting for baseline hs-TnT and EuroSCORE in a post-hoc analysis of the ERICCA trial. Results: 1206 patients met the inclusion criteria. Baseline elevation in hs-TnT >x1 99th percentile upper reference limit (URL) was significantly associated with 1-year all-cause mortality (adjusted hazard ratio 1.90, 95% confidence interval 1.15–3.13). In the subgroup with normal baseline hs-TnT ( n = 517), elevation in hs-TnT at all post-operative time points was associated with higher 1-year mortality, reaching statistical significance for elevations above: ≥100 × URL at 6 h; ≥50 × URL at 12 and 24 h; ≥35 × URL at 48 h; and ≥30 × URL at 72 h post-surgery. Elevation in hs-TnT at 24 h ≥ 50 × URL had the optimal sensitivity and specificity (73% and 75% respectively). When the whole cohort of patients was analysed, including those with abnormal baseline hs-TnT (up to 10 × URL), the same threshold had optimal sensitivity and specificity (66% and 70%). Conclusions: Both baseline and post-operative hs-TnT elevations are independently associated with 1-year all-cause mortality in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The optimal threshold to define a prognostically significant PMI in our study was ≥50 × URL elevation in hs-TnT at 24 h.

    Abstract Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) are emerging as a powerful tool for learning from graph-structured data and performing sophisticated inference tasks in various application domains. Although GNNs have been shown to be effective on modest-sized graphs, training them on large-scale graphs remains a significant challenge due to lack of efficient data access and data movement methods. Existing frameworks for training GNNs use CPUs for graph sampling and feature aggregation, while the training and updating of model weights are executed on GPUs. However, our in-depth profiling shows the CPUs cannot achieve the throughput required to saturate GNN model training throughput, causing gross under-utilization of expensive GPU resources. Furthermore, when the graph and its embeddings do not fit in the CPU memory, the overhead introduced by the operating system, say for handling page-faults, comes in the critical path of execution. To address these issues, we propose the GPU Initiated Direct Storage Access (GIDS) dataloader, to enable GPU-oriented GNN training for large-scale graphs while efficiently utilizing all hardware resources, such as CPU memory, storage, and GPU memory with a hybrid data placement strategy. By enabling GPU threads to fetch feature vectors directly from storage, GIDS dataloader solves the memory capacity problem for GPU-oriented GNN training. Moreover, GIDS dataloader leverages GPU parallelism to tolerate storage latency and eliminates expensive page-fault overhead. Doing so enables us to design novel optimizations for exploiting locality and increasing effective bandwidth for GNN training. Our evaluation using a single GPU on terabyte-scale GNN datasets shows that GIDS dataloader accelerates the overall DGL GNN training pipeline by up to 392X when compared to the current, state-of-the-art DGL dataloader.

    Abstract Graph neural networks (GNNs) have shown high potential for a variety of real-world, challenging applications, but one of the major obstacles in GNN research is the lack of large-scale flexible datasets. Most existing public datasets for GNNs are relatively small, which limits the ability of GNNs to generalize to unseen data. The few existing large-scale graph datasets provide very limited labeled data. This makes it difficult to determine if the GNN model's low accuracy for unseen data is inherently due to insufficient training data or if the model failed to generalize. Additionally, datasets used to train GNNs need to offer flexibility to enable a thorough study of the impact of various factors while training GNN models. In this work, we introduce the Illinois Graph Benchmark (IGB), a research dataset tool that the developers can use to train, scrutinize and systematically evaluate GNN models with high fidelity. IGB includes both homogeneous and heterogeneous academic graphs of enormous sizes, with more than 40% of their nodes labeled. Compared to the largest graph datasets publicly available, the IGB provides over 162X more labeled data for deep learning practitioners and developers to create and evaluate models with higher accuracy. The IGB dataset is a collection of academic graphs designed to be flexible, enabling the study of various GNN architectures, embedding generation techniques, and analyzing system performance issues for node classification tasks. IGB is open-sourced, supports DGL and PyG frameworks, and comes with releases of the raw text that we believe foster emerging language models and GNN research projects.     Abstract Accelerated glacier mass loss is primarily attributed to greenhouse-induced global warming. Land–climate interactions have increasingly been recognized as an important forcing at the regional-local scale, but the related effects on the Himalayan glaciers are less explored and thought to be an important factor regulating spatial heterogeneity. The aim of the present study is a multi-decadal approximation of glacier—hydroclimate interaction over the western region of the central Himalaya (WCH). Multi-species, highly coherent, tree-ring cellulose δ18O chronologies from three sites across the WCH were used to derive atmospheric humidity (Atmospheric Moisture Content: AMC) record of the last four centuries. Annual-scale AMC reconstruction implies a decreasing regional atmospheric moisture since the mid-19th century and a sharp decline in recent decades (1960s). Coherency analyses between regional AMC and glacier mass balance (GMB) indicate an abrupt phase-shift in the relationship after the 1960s within a common record of the last 273 years. To ascertain the cause of this phase-shift, annual AMC was disintegrated into seasonal-scale, utilizing ∼200 years of δ18O record of a deciduous tree species. Seasonal (winter: October–March; summer: April–September) AMC reconstructions and disaggregation results indicate higher sensitivity of regional ice-mass variability to winter moisture dynamics than summer.Winter season AMC reconstruction confirms a revival of winter westerlies-driven moisture influx in the region since the 1970 s. Meanwhile, the record for the summer season AMC indicates a gradual decline in moisture influx from the beginning of the 20th century. Interestingly, despite a prominent decline in Indian summer monsoon (ISM) precipitation after the mid-20th century, the summer season AMC—GMB relation remained stable.     Abstract The present research details the remote sensing, geotechnical and seismic aspects of hill slopes in Lower Tons river valley, Garhwal Himalaya, India. The region is a part of Lesser Himalaya and holds religious and strategic importance. The studied span has been a site of slope failures in the past. The remote sensing investigation was used to characterize the geomorphological and hydrological attributes of the area. This information was used to delineate vulnerable locations. Along the road stretch of about 80 km, 80 tests were conducted to ascertain the soil particle distribution and plasticity indices; and 33 tests for shear strength properties. Using the geotechnical parameters, numerical simulation was conducted for two slopes of angle, 40° and 50°, with a consistent height of 50 m. Most of the slopes were stable at an angle of 40°, however, 30.30% (FEM) and 24.24% (FDM) of the analysed slopes failed for the steeper slope. Eventually, the pseudo-static analysis was done. The inclusion of seismicity increased the incidences of slope failure by 33.33% and 39.39% for the slope with an inclination of 40° and 50°, respectively. Afterwards, the slopes were optimized for their critical angle as a function of the safety factor.

    Abstract Background: Meningioma is the most frequent primary intracranial tumour. Surgical resection remains the main therapeutic option as pharmacological intervention is hampered by poor knowledge of their proteomic signature. There is an urgent need to identify new therapeutic targets and biomarkers of meningioma. Methods: We performed proteomic profiling of grade I, II and III frozen meningioma specimens and three normal healthy human meninges using LC-MS/MS to analyse global proteins, enriched phosphoproteins and phosphopeptides. Differential expression and functional annotation of proteins was completed using Perseus, IPA® and DAVID. We validated differential expression of proteins and phosphoproteins by Western blot on a meningioma validation set and by immunohistochemistry. Findings: We quantified 3888 proteins and 3074 phosphoproteins across all meningioma grades and normal meninges. Bioinformatics analysis revealed commonly upregulated proteins and phosphoproteins to be enriched in Gene Ontology terms associated with RNA metabolism. Validation studies confirmed significant overexpression of proteins such as EGFR and CKAP4 across all grades, as well as the aberrant activation of the downstream PI3K/AKT pathway, which seems differential between grades. Further, we validated upregulation of the total and activated phosphorylated form of the NIMA-related kinase, NEK9, involved in mitotic progression. Novel proteins identified and validated in meningioma included the nuclear proto-oncogene SET, the splicing factor SF2/ASF and the higher-grade specific protein, HK2, involved in cellular metabolism. Interpretation: Overall, we generated a proteomic thesaurus of meningiomas for the identification of potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
