Abstract In this work, we synthesize and investigate lower technetium hydrides at pressures up to 45 GPa using the synchrotron X-ray diffraction, reflectance spectroscopy, and ab initio calculations. In the Tc-H system, the hydrogen content in TcH$_x$ phases increases when the pressure rises, and at 27 GPa we found a new hexagonal (hcp) nonstoichiometric hydride TcH$_{1.3}$. The formation of technetium hydrides is also confirmed by the emergence of a new reflective band at 450-600 nm in the reflectance spectra of TcH$_x$ samples synthesized at 45 GPa. On the basis of the theoretical analysis, we proposed crystal structures for the TcH$_{0.45 \pm 0.05}$ (Tc$_{16}$H$_7$) and TcH$_{0.75 \pm 0.05}$ (Tc$_4$H$_3$) phases previously obtained at 1-2 GPa. The calculations of the electron-phonon interaction show that technetium hydrides TcH$_{1+x}$ do not possess superconducting properties due to the low electron-phonon interaction parameter ($\lambda \sim 0.23$).

Abstract Radical prostatectomy is now widely practiced in the treatment of prostatic cancer (PC). If PC patients have inguinal hernia, hernioplasty can be made simultaneously with radical prostatectomy without one more surgical approach. The article presents pathogenetic rationale of hernioplasty from preperitoneal approach and an original technique of the simultaneous operation. Positive experience with 32 radical prostatectomies with hernioplasty is described.

Title translation Problems of the existence of "optimal" function survival functions in experiments of varying protein supplies to Mediterranean fruit flies.
Abstract The paper is devoted to the discussion of the possibility of analyzing the changes in survival curves of Mediterranean Fruit Flies under different levels of reproduction by means of solving the optimization problem with some objective function. The investigation is carried out on the base of mathematical model with approximations resulting in the analysis of joint changes in survival functions and reproduction in flies subjected to different conditions of protein availability in food. The model describes possible mechanisms of evolutionary selection from the point of view of trade-off in average life span and reproduction.

Abstract The principles of stochastic modeling and simulation of the processes of aging and carcinogenesis by means of semimartingale methods are considered. The model fits to the experiments on activating of processes of aging be 5-bromodeoxiuridine postnatal exposure inducing genome instability. The model describes the multistage phenomena of aging and carcinogenesis by the system of stochastic equations in terms of multivariate and diffusion processes.

Title translation Effect of Epitalon and Vilon treatment on mammary carcinogenesis in transgenic erbB-2/NEU mice.
Abstract Female transgenic FVB mice transfected with the mammary erbB-2/neu oncogene were injected 0.1 ml 0.9% solution of sodium chloride (control), 1 meg Vilon peptide (Lys-Glu) or Epitalon peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Glu), s.c., 5 days in succession once a month, beginning from the age of 2 months. The characteristics of mammary tumor induction in the control and experimental groups did not differ until the age of 9 months. Later on, Epitalon-treated mice revealed distinct inhibition of carcinogenesis. One tumor per animal was detected in 7% (control), 4% (Vilon) and 16% (Epitalon) (p < 0.05). Two or more tumors per animal were in 75%, 95% and 56%, respectively (p < 0.05). Largest diameter of mammary adenocarcinoma in the Epitalon group was smaller than in controls by 33% (p < 0.05). Although the number of mice with metastases to the lung in all three groups was practically identical, their incidence in the Vilon group was 2.6 times higher than in Epitalon-treated animals (p < 0.05). Largest diameter of metastasis in the Epitalon group was the smallest, too. Our data point to inhibition of mammary carcinogenesis by Epitalon in transgenic erbB-2/neu mice.

Abstract Measurements of the midrapidity transverse energy distribution, $d\Et/d\eta$, are presented for $p$$+$$p$, $d$$+$Au, and Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV and additionally for Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=62.4$ and 130 GeV. The $d\Et/d\eta$ distributions are first compared with the number of nucleon participants $N_{\rm part}$, number of binary collisions $N_{\rm coll}$, and number of constituent-quark participants $N_{qp}$ calculated from a Glauber model based on the nuclear geometry. For Au$+$Au, $\mean{d\Et/d\eta}/N_{\rm part}$ increases with $N_{\rm part}$, while $\mean{d\Et/d\eta}/N_{qp}$ is approximately constant for all three energies. This indicates that the two component ansatz, $dE_{T}/d\eta \propto (1-x) N_{\rm part}/2 + x N_{\rm coll}$, which has been used to represent $E_T$ distributions, is simply a proxy for $N_{qp}$, and that the $N_{\rm coll}$ term does not represent a hard-scattering component in $E_T$ distributions. The $dE_{T}/d\eta$ distributions of Au$+$Au and $d$$+$Au are then calculated from the measured $p$$+$$p$ $E_T$ distribution using two models that both reproduce the Au$+$Au data. However, while the number-of-constituent-quark-participant model agrees well with the $d$$+$Au data, the additive-quark model does not.
