Abstract The analysis of complexes formation of hydrogen peroxide molecule with DNA nucleic bases is carried out using methods of quantum chemistry. Optimized geometries of complexes are determined and the interaction energies that lead to complex formation are calculated. Comparison with the same calculations for water molecule is made. It is shown that complexes with hydrogen peroxide molecule are energetically more stable than the same complexes with water molecule. Such energetic advantage is achieved particularly due to geometrical properties of hydrogen peroxide molecule, especially presence of dihedral angle. Position of hydrogen peroxide molecule in close vicinity to DNA could lead to blocking of its recognition by proteins or direct damage via hydroxyl radical formation. These results can have significant impact in understanding of mechanisms of cancer therapy.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract: Aim: To compare the efficiency of two surgical methods, holmium laser enucleation of prostate (HoLEP) and laparoscopic retropubic simple prostatectomy with clamping of internal iliac arteries and vesicourethral anastomosis [LPA+CIIA+VUA]) for treating ... ...

Abstract Aim: To compare the efficiency of two surgical methods, holmium laser enucleation of prostate (HoLEP) and laparoscopic retropubic simple prostatectomy with clamping of internal iliac arteries and vesicourethral anastomosis [LPA+CIIA+VUA]) for treating of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Materials and methods: A total of 56 men with T2DM who underwent surgical treatment of BPH in the National Research Centre for Endocrinology of the Russian Ministry of Health (director - corresponding member of RAS Mokrysheva N.G..) in a period from 2021 until 2022 were included in the study. Patients with T2DM received two types of antidiabetic drugs: basal-bolus insulin therapy and metformin (1000 mg/day per os). Patients were divided into the group of LPA+CIIA+VUA (n=28) and HoLEP (n=28). Preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative examinations with an evaluation of intraoperative and early postoperative complications (I, II, III, IV grades according to the Clavien-Dindo scale) were performed. After 1 year of follow-up, International Prostatic Symptom Score (IPSS), "Quality of Life" score (QoL), International Index of Erectile Function-5 score (IIEF-5), maximal urine flow rate (Qmax), and postvoid residual volume (ml) were assessed. Efficiency of surgical procedures was estimated according to "trifecta": absence of postoperative complications, urine continence, maximal urine flow (Qmax) >15 ml/sec.
Results: In the group of HoLEP, shorter postoperative bladder catheterization time but higher risk of urinary incontinence, bladder neck contracture and urethral strictures was found. LPA+CIIA+UVA leaded to a two-fold decrease in intraoperative hemoglobin loss with no necessity of repeat procedures.
Conclusions: Our preliminary results demonstrated higher efficacy of LPA+CIIA+VUA for treatment of BPH in patients with T2DM than HoLEP. Patients who underwent LPA+CIIA+VUA were more often achieved the "trifecta". In order to implement LPA+CIIA+VUA into clinical practice, multi-center, large-scale, double-blind, placebo-controlled ("scar-surgery") randomized studies are required.

Abstract Data on the spring phenology and reproductive parameters of Ross’s Gull were collected during the period 1980–2013 on the delta of Lena River, northern Yakutia (71°42–74° N, 120°–129°30 E). During this period, significant changes in weather occurred. The mean annual temperature (F₁.₂₇ = 7.74, p < 0.04), the mean June temperature (F₁.₂₇ = 11.75, p < 0.002), and the summer temperature (F₁.₂₇ = 9.13, p < 0.005) increased, and the mean daily air temperatures crossing 0°C shifted to earlier dates (F₁.₂₆ = 14.73, p < 0.001). However, the duration of the period with positive temperatures increased only slightly (F₁.₂₆ = 3.53, p < 0.07). The arrival of Ross’s gulls to the Lena Delta depended on the dates of snow melting (r = 0.62, p < 0.05), the mean June temperatures (r = –0.48, p < 0.01), and the minimal June daily temperatures (r = –0.70, p < 0.001). The maximum amplitude of fluctuations in egg numbers among all arctic gulls was revealed for complete clutches of Ross’s Gull. In the Lena Delta, this amplitude was higher than in more southerly regions, where the nesting ecology of the species was mainly studied. The clutch size was negatively correlated with the dates of clutch initiation, the females that began to nest earlier showing larger clutch sizes. The reproductive effort of the species depended negatively on the temperature of the prenesting period. In cold years, the dates of nesting initiation shifted to later times (r = –0.75, p < 0.001) and the clutch size declined (F₁,₁₇₂ = 27.31, p < 0.00001). There was a tendency towards a decrease in the egg volume, which is the most noticeable from the dates of snow melting (F₁,₂₂₆ = 33.4, p < 0.00001) and a decrease in the average temperature of the prenesting period (F₁,₂₂₆ = 23.4, p < 0.00001). Despite an increase in the nesting season temperatures in the Lena Delta since 1982 and the earlier arrival of Ross’s Gull (F₁.₂₇ = 14.87, p < 0.001), no shift in the dates of nesting initiation was detected. In our opinion, this is because the amplitude of interannual changes has a wider range than the long-term trend. The patterns of variations in the dates of nesting initiation and in the clutch sizes and egg volume are due to the dynamics of environmental conditions, primarily air temperatures.

Abstract Antimodernism, a popular movement growing out of fear and hostility toward an emerging new world, became a central ideological trend in late nineteenth-century Europe. Shulamit Volkov explains its development in Germany by providing a biography of one group-the urban master artisans-whose political attitudes came to be dominated by antimodernist feelings. As small, independently employed practitioners of traditional crafts, the master artisans possessed a special social identity. The author focuses on their character as a group, their public behavior, and the formation of their ideas and po

Abstract The use of different nanoparticles (NPs) is growing every year since discoveries of their unique properties. The wide use of nanomaterials has raised concerns about their safety and possible accumulation in the aquatic environment. Mussels are being considered as one of the most suitable organisms for bioaccumulation monitoring. Within our study, we focused on developing the method that can be applied in field studies of ecotoxicity and can be nondestructive and informative at early times of exposure, while at the same time being based on changes of physiological parameters of fresh water mussels. The changes in the cardiovascular and neural systems of mollusks (

Abstract An approach to the description of DNA conformational transformations of B-A type is presented. Due to the consideration of joint motions of DNA structural elements the model for DNA transformation is constructed in the two-component form. One component is the degree of freedom of the elastic rod, and another component - the effective coordinate of the conformational transformation. In the model the internal and external components are interrelated, as it is characteristic for DNA B-A rearrangements. It is demonstrated that kinetic energy of the double helix transformations of heterogeneous DNA can be put in homogeneous form. In the frame of the developed approach the possible localized excitations in a static state are found to compare with the experiments on DNA B-A deformability. The comparison shows good qualitative agreement between theory and experiment. The conclusion is made that the found excitations in the DNA structure may be classified as static conformational solitons, and that such localized excitations may play the key role in the mechanisms of DNA intrinsic bending.

Abstract The model of the deformation of DNA macromolecule is developed with the accounting of two types of components of deformation: external and internal. External components describe the bend, twist and stretch of the double helix. The internal component - the conformational mobility inside of the double helix. In the work the deformation of DNA macromolecule is considered taking into account the coupling of the external component (of deformation) with the internal component (of conformational change). Under the task consideration the macromolecule twist-stretch coupling and coupling between twist and internal component are taken into account. The solution obtained in these conditions for the deformation components allows changing the character of respond in stretch component on unwind (overwind) in dependence on the applied force to twist component. The changing of the character of deformation from compression to tension achieving of critical untwisting force (and vise versa the changing of the character of deformation from overwind to unwind at critical tension force)is known from the single molecular experiments. The nature of such unexpected behavior of double helix have clarified in the present work by including in consideration the internal component. The obtained solutions and their conformity to experimental results show the essential role of coupling between internal and external components in the double helix conformational mechanics under action force in pN range.

Abstract A polycentric world formation raises a number of important questions for the scholars The first of them is a role of African continent in this process A common point of view on this issue has not been formulated yet, although some trends are becoming more obvious Among them is the desire of African states for greater subjectivity, primarily through the development of African integration and the exploration of the fourth industrial revolution achievements In February 2020, Institute for African Studies (Russian Academy of Sciences) informed about forthcoming on March 31 international conference «Africa in the conditions of a polycentric world formation” The wide range of issues were proposed for discussion, including the various aspects of African states home and foreign policies, their role and place in the new geopolitical conditions, and the African policies of the leading economically developed and developing countries The problems submitted for consideration excited a keen interest of scholars from the various institutes of the Russian Academy of Science 38 applications were submitted by those who wanted to participate in the conference However, COVID-2019 pandemic has made its own adjustments to the implementation of many scientific activities in our country, including this conference The measures taken by Russia to combat the spread of infection (COVID-2019) forced the organizers to hold it by correspondence with discussing the abstracts and reports submitted by participants
