Abstract Few proven therapies exist for patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM), partly due to the lack of reliable and valid outcome measures for assessing treatment responses. The current core set measures developed by the International Myositis Assessment and Clinical Studies group were developed to standardize assessments of disease activity and treatment effect. None of the current measures address functional improvement in muscle weakness. Therefore, supplemental measures for more objectively assessing physical activity levels and fatiguability in free-living settings are needed to assess disease activity more comprehensively. Validated physical activity monitors (PAMs) have the potential to serve as an objective functional outcome measure in clinical trials and observational studies. This review examines the current evidence for using body-worn PAMs in clinical settings with IIM patients. A practical overview of methods for PAM use in clinical patient populations (including measurement details and data processing) that focuses on IIM patients is also presented.

Abstract Objectives: To understand patterns in demand for emergency contraception (EC), we characterize the sales of over-the-counter (OTC) levonorgestrel (LNG) EC in the United States from traditional retail outlets.
Study design: We describe sales of OTC LNG EC using retail sales data aggregated from traditional retail channels, including grocery stores, drug stores, mass merchandisers, club stores, dollar stores, and military outlets.
Results: Sales of OTC LNG EC doubled between 2016 and 2022 (approximately 7.2-14.8 million).
Conclusions: Increasing sales of EC are consistent with increased use and use frequency of EC by those at risk of pregnancy in the United States.
Implications: OTC LNG EC sales since 2016 exceed what national survey usage estimates would suggest, indicating that national surveys underreport EC use, those using EC purchase it somewhat frequently, and/or individuals stockpile EC for later use. The role of EC in individual contraceptive strategies, particularly as access to reproductive healthcare is restricted, warrants further study.

Abstract The approximated identification of elemental composition of historic iron gall-inks is proposed based on results of laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) measurements combined with a quick detection of iron (II) ions. Colorimetric response of test papers soaked with bathophenanthroline (BPhen) allows for detection of iron in the form of red-coloured complex of Fe(II) with BPhen. A co-migration of other elements (Cu, Zn, Pb, Al, K, Na, Mg) into indicators was confirmed by LA-ICP-MS measurements allowing for approximation of chemical diversity of handwritten documents in a totally non-invasive manner in respect to originals. The proposed analytical approach for in-direct studies of unique documents was tested on historic and model samples. The idea of approximation of elemental composition of the historic inks was found promising for purposes of conservation diagnosis towards estimation of corrosiveness of inks and eventual fingerprinting. It has been demonstrated that the presence of Fe as well as other elements (S, Cu and Mn) which are significant for recognition of ink corrosion can be detected in the used indicators extending the possibilities of examining valuable manuscripts in a way that is completely neutral for them.
