Abstract Abstract: Hemifacial spasm is an uncontrollable, recurrent facial muscular contraction that typically occurs on one side of the face, cannot be suppressed, and can last the entire day and during sleep. The most common underlying cause of facial nerve compression is an enlarged or abnormal tracking blood vessel at the brainstem level. Clinical diagnoses are frequently based on a patient's medical history and physical examination. Before deciding on a course of action, however, an electromyogram and MRI are performed to determine the underlying cause. Due to its high effectiveness (success rates of 85% to 95%) and low frequency of adverse reactions, botulinum toxin is the preferred therapy for hemifacial spasm and can provide transient symptomatic alleviation. Surgical microvascular decompression is a therapeutic approach that targets the underlying cause of this condition and has an average success rate of 85%.

Abstract Background: Test-taking is a prominent cause of anxiety for nursing students. Test anxiety may interfere with academic performance, program completion, and successful transition to practice. Prior research suggests that nursing students are more test-anxious than other students, yet this concept is not well studied.
Purpose: This study examined differences between test anxiety in nursing and nonnursing students while comparing current trends related to academic level and gender.
Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, participants completed the Test Anxiety Inventory as a measure of perceived test anxiety.
Results: Minimal differences in scores based on major and academic level were found. Differences based on gender were noted with females reporting higher levels of test anxiety.
Conclusions: Findings may help nurse educators better understand test anxiety and guide the implementation of supportive strategies to improve learning outcomes.

Abstract A compartment epidemic model for infectious disease spreading is investigated, where movement of individuals is governed by spatial diffusion. The model includes infection age of the infected individuals and assumes a logistic growth of the susceptibles. Global well-posedness of the equations within the class of nonnegative smooth solutions is shown. Moreover, spectral properties of the linearization around a steady state are derived. This yields the notion of linear stability which is used to determine stability properties of the disease-free and the endemic steady state.
