Abstract Background: In patients with ischemic stroke, low hemoglobin-to-red blood cell distribution width ratio (HRR) was associated with an increased risk of mortality. However, it was unknown in the non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) population. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between baseline HRR and in-hospital mortality in patients with non-traumatic SAH.
Methods: Non-traumatic SAH patients were screened out of the Medical Information Mart for Intensive IV (MIMIC-IV) database between 2008 and 2019. The Cox proportional hazard regression models were utilized to analyze the association between baseline HRR and in-hospital mortality. Restricted cubic splines (RCS) analysis was utilized to determine the relationship curve between hospital mortality and the HRR level and examine the threshold saturation effect. We further applied Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis to examine the consistency of these correlations. The interaction test was used to identify subgroups with differences.
Results: A total of 842 patients were included in this retrospective cohort study. Compared with individuals with lower HRR Q1 ( ≤ 7.85), the adjusted HR values in Q2 (7.86-9.15), Q3 (9.16-10.16), and Q4 (≥10.17) were 0.574 (95% CI: 0.368-0.896,
Conclusion: There was a non-linear connection between the baseline HRR level and in-hospital mortality. A low level of HRR could increase the risk of death in participants with non-traumatic SAH.

Abstract Previous studies have shown the great potential of using plasma-activated water (PAW) on improving agriculture seed germination, however, information on the influence of PAW on crop plantlet juice remains scanty. In this research, the effect of PAW generated by atmosphere pressure Ar–O₂ plasma jet for 1–5 min on wheat seed germination, seedling growth and nutritional properties of wheat plantlet juice was investigated. Results revealed that all PAWs could enhance wheat seed germination and seedling growth in 7 days by improving the germination rate, germination index, fresh weight, dry weight and vigour index, and especially that PAW activated for 3 min (PAW-3) showed the best overall performance. In addition, the application of PAWs enhanced the nutritional properties of wheat plantlet juice from those grown for 14 days by improving total soluble solids, protein content, photosynthetic pigments, total phenolic content, antioxidant activity, enzyme activity, free amino acids and minerals content, and the best enhancement was also observed in PAW-3. It was concluded that PAWs would be an effective technique to enhance the growth and nutritional properties of crop sprouts, which could be served as functional foods in many forms.

Abstract Background: Cortico-muscular coherence (CMC) between the cerebral cortex and muscle activity is an effective tool for studying neural communication in the motor control system. To accurately evaluate the coherence between electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyogram (EMG) signals, it is necessary to accurately calculate the time delay between physiological signals to ensure signal synchronization.
New method: We proposed a new delay estimation method, named wavelet coherence time lag (WCTL) and the significant increase areas (SIA) index as a measure of the specific region enhancement effect of the magnitude squared coherence (MSC) image.
Results: The grip strength level had a small effect on the information transmission time from the cortex to the muscles, while the transmission time from the cortex to different muscle channels was different for the same task. A positive correlation was found between the grip strength level and the SIA index on the β band of C3-B and the α and β bands of C3-FDS.
Comparison with existing method: The WCTL method was found to accurately calculate the delay time even when the number of repeated segments was low in a simple motor control model, and the results were more accurate than the rate of voxels change (RVC) and CMC with time lag (CMCTL) methods.
Conclusions: The WCTL is an effective method for detecting the transmission time of information between the cortex and muscles, laying the foundation for future rehabilitation treatment for stroke patients.

Abstract Objective: The objective of this study is to assess the correlation between Piezo2 and tumors through a comprehensive meta-analysis and database validation.
Methods: Case-control studies investigating the association between Piezo2 and tumors were obtained from various databases, including China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), SinoMed, Embase, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, and PubMed. The search was performed from the inception of each database up until May 2023. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data, and assessed the quality of the included studies. Metaanalysis of the included literature was conducted using Stata 12.0 software. Additionally, the Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) database predicted a correlation between Piezo2 expression and prognostic value in tumor patients.
Results: A total of three studies, involving a combined sample size of 392 participants, were included in the meta-analysis. The findings revealed that the expression level of Piezo2 in tumor patients was not significantly associated with age, gender, or tumor size. However, it was found to be positively correlated with lymphatic invasion (OR = 7.89, 95%CI: 3.96-15.73) and negatively correlated with invasion depth (OR = 0.17, 95%CI: 0.06-0.47), TNM stage (OR = 0.48, 95%CI: 0.27-0.87), and histological grade (OR = 0.40, 95%CI: 0.21-0.77). Confirming these findings, the GEPIA database indicated that high expression of Piezo2 was associated with poor prognosis of disease-free survival in patients with colon adenocarcinoma (HR = 1.6, P = 0.049) and gastric cancer (HR = 1.6, P = 0.017).
Conclusion: Piezo2 may be associated with poor prognosis and clinicopathological parameters in tumor patients.

Abstract The automatic recognition technology of muscle fatigue has widespread application in the field of kinesiology and rehabilitation medicine. In this paper, we used surface electromyography (sEMG) to study the recognition of leg muscle fatigue during circuit resistance training. The purpose of this study was to solve the problem that the sEMG signals have a lot of noise interference and the recognition accuracy of the existing muscle fatigue recognition model is not high enough. First, we proposed an improved wavelet threshold function denoising algorithm to denoise the sEMG signal. Then, we build a muscle fatigue state recognition model based on long short-term memory (LSTM), and used the Holdout method to evaluate the performance of the model. Finally, the denoising effect of the improved wavelet threshold function denoising method proposed in this paper was compared with the denoising effect of the traditional wavelet threshold denoising method. We compared the performance of the proposed muscle fatigue recognition model with that of particle swarm optimization support vector machine (PSO-SVM) and convolutional neural network (CNN). The results showed that the new wavelet threshold function had better denoising performance than hard and soft threshold functions. The accuracy of LSTM network model in identifying muscle fatigue was 4.89% and 2.47% higher than that of PSO-SVM and CNN, respectively. The sEMG signal denoising method and muscle fatigue recognition model proposed in this paper have important implications for monitoring muscle fatigue during rehabilitation training and exercise.

Abstract Background and objective: With the wide application of electronic medical record systems in hospitals, massive medical data are available. This type of medical data has the characteristics of heterogeneity and multi-dimensionality. Traditional statistical methods cannot fully extract and use such data, but with their non-linear and cross-learning modes, machine-learning (ML) algorithms based on artificial intelligence can address these shortcomings. To explore the application of ML algorithms in the cardiovascular field, we retrieved and reviewed relevant articles published in the last 6 years and found that ML is practical and accurate in the auxiliary diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. Thus, this article reviewed the research progress of ML in cardiovascular disease.
Methods: This study searched relevant literature published in National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) PubMed from 2016 to 2022. The relevant literature was extracted from NCBI PubMed with the following keywords and their combinations: "machine learning", "artificial intelligence", "cardiology", "cardiovascular disease", "echocardiography", "electrocardiogram" and "prediction model". All articles included in the review are English.
Key content and findings: The review found that ML is practical and accurate in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. Besides, ML can build clinical risk prediction models and help doctors evaluate the prognosis of patients.
Conclusions: The study summarized the progress of ML in cardiovascular diseases and confirmed its advantages in clinical application. In the future, models and software based on ML will be common auxiliary tools in clinical practice.

Abstract The shiitake mushroom is the most commonly cultivated edible mushroom in the world, and is rich in protein. This study aims to obtain the peptides with α-glucosidase inhibition activity from shiitake mushroom protein hydrolysate. The conditions of enzymatic hydrolysis of shiitake mushroom protein were optimized by response surface test. The results showed that the optimal conditions were as follows: the E/S was 3390 U/g, the solid–liquid ratio was 1:20, the hydrolysis temperature and time were 46 °C and 3.4 h, respectively, and the pH was 7. The active peptides were separated by gel filtration and identified by LC-MS/MS analysis and virtual screening. The results indicated that fourteen peptides were identified by LC-MS/MS. Among them, four new peptides (EGEPKLP, KDDLRSP, TPELKL, and LDYGKL) with the higher docking score were selected and chemically synthesized to verify their inhibition activity. The IC50 values of EGEPKLP, KDDLRSP, TPELKL, and LDYGKL for α-glucosidase inhibition activity ranged from 452 ± 36 μmol/L to 696 ± 39 μmol/L. The molecular docking results showed that the hydrogen bond and arene–cation bond were the two major interactions between four peptides and 2QMJ. The hydrogen bonds were crucial to the inhibition activity of α-glucosidase. The results indicate the potential of using the peptides from shiitake mushroom protein as functional food with α-glucosidase inhibition activity.
