Abstract Allium mongolicum Regel (AM), widely distributed in western China, is a traditional Mongolian medicine herb. Two different solvents as water and methanol were used to extract AM, and their antioxidant capacity and inhibitory effects against key enzymes related to metabolic syndrome were assessed. The antioxidant capacity was evaluated through the assay of radical scavenging ability on DPPH and ABTS and reducing power assays. In addition, the total phenolic content and total flavonoids content were quantificated and analyzed. Aqueous extract, having higher phenolic content (10.20 mg GAE/g DW) and flavonoid content (4.02 mg QE/g DW), showed better antioxidant and inhibitory effects against lipase and angiotensin‐converting enzyme (ACE); as for α‐glucosidase, the extract made by methanol showed better ability. In general, the aqueous extract of A. mongolicum Regel has the potential to be used as a functional food or nutraceutical in prevention and treatment of obesity and hypertension due to the high antioxidant and sound inhibitory potential against vital enzymes relevant to obesity and hypertension.

Abstract As a continuation of a previous investigation on the temporal integration of partially polarized thermal light and/or the spatial integration of polarization speckle, we calculate more accurate probability density functions for integrated Stokes parameters. With the aid of the unitary linear transformation and the Karhunen-Loève expansion of the stochastic electric field, the light of interest has been decomposed into an infinite number of statistically independent modes and the integrated Stokes parameters have been expressed as the sums of infinite numbers of random variables known as the polarization-related mode shape. A mathematical formalism of the exact solutions for the distributions of the integrated Stokes parameters has been derived. Through some approximations to the exact solutions, we also make a comparison of the "exact" and approximate solutions to understand the entire statistics of the integrated stochastic phenomena in optics.

Abstract Background: Colorectal cancer stands as one of the most prevalent malignant tumors affecting the digestive tract, posing a significant threat to human health. Its incidence and fatality rates rank third and second, respectively, among malignant tumors. This study seeks to analyze the efficacy of combining fluorouracil intraperitoneal perfusion chemotherapy with intravenous chemotherapy in patients following radical resection of colorectal cancer.
Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the medical records of 65 patients who underwent radical resection of colorectal cancer at the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2011 to January 2013. These patients were divided into two groups based on their treatment methods: the control group (CG, n = 31, receiving intravenous chemotherapy) and the observation group (OG, n = 32, receiving fluorouracil intraperitoneal perfusion chemotherapy + intravenous chemotherapy). After 6 cycles of treatment, the study compared clinical symptoms, Karnofsky score, body weight, adverse reactions, local recurrence, and liver metastasis between the two groups.
Results: The OG demonstrated superior efficacy in controlling recurrence and metastasis compared to the CG (p < 0.05). However, there were no significant differences observed in clinical symptoms, quality of life, body weight, and drug safety between the two groups (p > 0.05).
Conclusion: Intraperitoneal infusion chemotherapy with fluorouracil significantly impacts the control of recurrence and metastasis following radical resection of colorectal cancer. It also offers valuable references for developing clinical treatment protocols for these patients.

Abstract Neuromodulators play crucial roles in regulating neuronal activity and affecting various aspects of brain functions, including learning, memory, cognitive functions, emotional states, and pain modulation. In this Account, we describe our group's efforts in designing sensors and tools for studying neuromodulation. Our lab focuses on developing new classes of integrators that can detect neuromodulators across the whole brain while leaving a mark for further imaging analysis at high spatial resolution. Our lab also designed chemical- and light-dependent protein switches for controlling peptide activity to potentially modulate the endogenous receptors of the neuromodulatory system in order to study the causal effects of selective neuronal pathways.
