    Abstract Methyl 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one-5-carboxylate derivatives 7 were effectively synthesized on the soluble polymer of polyethylene glycol (PEG) 4000 by heating or solvent-free microwave irradiation through the Biginelli three-component cyclocondensation. Compared with the classical solution-phase Biginelli reactions, the yields could be considerably improved and the reaction time could be shortened dramatically under microwave promotion in a liquid-phase protocol. Moreover, the polymer-supported synthesis provided the target compounds in high purity.

    Abstract A Rh(III)-catalyzed [4 + 1] annulation of aromatic carboxylic acids with 4-diazoisoquinolin-3-ones is reported. A library of highly substituted spiro [isobenzofuran-1,4′-isoquinoline]-3,3′-diones were synthesized in moderate to good yields by this protocol (30 examples, up to 84% yield). Broad substrate scope, readily available starting materials, and mild reaction conditions are the merits of this protocol. Moreover, the reaction can be scaled up.

    Abstract A Rh(II)-catalyzed (3 + 2) annulation of pyridines with 4-diazoisochroman-3-imines leading to 5H-isochromeno[3,4-b]indolizines is presented. This methodology provides straightforward access to a wide variety of substituted 5H-isochromeno[3,4-b]indolizines with moderate to good yields (up to 84%) and complete regioselectivity.

    Abstract Stereoselective synthesis of (E)-3-arylideneindolin-2-imines from 3-diazoindolin-2-imines and hydrazones was achieved using copper bromide as the catalyst. The olefination reaction proceeded via copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of hydrazones to diazo compounds and copper-catalyzed cross coupling of two different diazo components in a tandem manner.

    Abstract A facile and efficient synthesis of novel 2-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-4-yl)-1,3-diarylpropane-1,3-diones via the Sc(OTf)₃-promoted reaction between 4-diazo-1,4-dihydroisoquinolin-3-ones and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds is reported. This formal C–H bond insertion involves an activation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with generation of triflic acid by-product, a formation of diazonium intermediate from diazo component by triflic acid promotion, and a subsequent intermolecular nucleophilic substitution step. Readily available starting materials, cheap catalyst, broad substrate scope (22 examples, up to 92% yield), and mild reaction conditions are the merits of this reaction.
