Abstract Introduction: This research investigates the effectiveness of an online collaborative flipped classroom approach in enhancing English reading skills and self-regulated learning among Chinese English learners.
Methods: A total of 71 participants were divided into three instructional groups: traditional instruction (TI) group (
Results: The results indicated that both the FI and OFI groups outperformed the TI group in terms of reading comprehension and self-regulated learning. Furthermore, the OFI students demonstrated superior online learning behaviors and objective performances compared to the FI students.
Discussion: These findings suggest that the integration of flipped and online instruction methods holds promise for improving English reading skills and enhancing self-regulated learning among Chinese English learners.

Abstract Beijing is a metropolis that is quickly growing, which has significant and unusual air pollution issues. In Beijing, organic matter makes up about 40%-60% of the total mass of fine particles, making it the most prevalent portion and highlighting its crucial role in reducing air pollution. However, a thorough chemical analysis of particulate organic matter has never been reported in Beijing. In this work, the organic components of fine particles in Beijing's urban environment were examined by the Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) method. In 30 p.m. (Particulate matter) 2.5, more than 101 unique chemical compounds were identified and measured. Seven samples from the 2015-2016 summer, including harvest, cold, Aromatic hydrocarbons, unsaturated fats, ferulic acid, polyaromatic, and some tracer substances (hopanes, present in environmental samples, and corticosteroids) were the main ingredients, with their total concentrations being 489, 1369, and 1366 ng*m

Abstract Carbon emission reduction under the Belt and Road Initiative has great significance on China’s goal of carbon peak. To better promote carbon emission reduction, based on the background of the Belt and Road Initiative, this paper analyzes the collaborative carbon emission reduction through investment between Chinese enterprises and local enterprises in developing countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. Considering the efforts of enterprises in carbon reduction, low-carbon infrastructure investment, and promotion of low-carbon products, this paper constructs a differential game model of collaborative carbon reduction cooperation between Chinese enterprises and local enterprises in developing countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. By horizontally comparing Nash non-cooperative mode, Stackelberg master-slave mode, and cooperative mode, the results shows that Chinese enterprises can encourage local enterprises in developing countries along the Belt and Road Initiative to coordinate carbon emission reduction through subsidies, which is Stackelberg master-slave mode. Under the cooperative mode, with the maximum carbon emission reduction efforts of both parties, the total benefit of carbon emission reduction reaches the optimal Pareto equilibrium. In addition, this paper also discusses the influence of related factors on the benefits of carbon emission reduction.

Abstract Rational design of ionic liquids (ILs) with wide electrochemical windows (ECWs) for high-voltage cathodes is essential to elevating the energy density of current rechargeable batteries. It is significant to determine appropriate strategies for accurately predicting the ECWs of ILs. In this study, we compare the calculated ECWs based on three quantum methods, including the highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO-LUMO) method, the ionization potential-electron affinity (IP-EA) method, and the thermodynamic method, under four unique combinations of simulation environments, and assess the discrepancies between the calculated and the experimental results of ECWs. For the three quantum methods, although HOMO-LUMO and IP-EA methods show limited prediction accuracy compared to the experimental values, they can qualitatively rank the anodic limits of anions and the cathodic limits of cations. For the thermodynamic method, we demonstrate that the highest accuracy can be achieved by considering the most rational redox reaction process. By varying the calculation environments, the calculated ECWs tend to be underestimated by considering separate cations and anions of ILs under gas phase, whereas they always exhibit overestimated results when calculating based on the cation-anion pairs. When the computation considers isolated ions with the solvent model plus proper thermodynamic corrections, we observe improved consistency with the experimental results. Though all methods have limitations to achieving perfect predictions of ECWs, we believe rational selection of calculation methods based on application-oriented scenarios can balance the efficiency and accuracy of the results for the development of a high-throughput and accurate database of ECWs for ILs.

Abstract Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a condition in which the quantity of follicles and the quality of oocytes gradually decrease. This results in an estrogen secretion disorder and abnormal follicle development, which can lead to related diseases, early onset of menopause, sexual dysfunction, and an increased risk of cardiovascular issues, osteoporosis, and depression, among others. This disease significantly impacts the physical and mental health and overall quality of life of affected women. Factors such as genetic abnormalities, oophorectomy, radiotherapy for malignancy, idiopathic conditions, and an unhealthy lifestyle, including smoking, can accelerate the depletion of the follicular pool and the onset of menopause. Extensive research has been conducted on the detrimental effects of tobacco smoke on the ovaries. This article aims to review the advancements in understanding the impact of tobacco smoke on POI, both in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, we explore the potential adverse effects of common toxicants found in tobacco smoke, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), heavy metals like cadmium, alkaloids like nicotine and its major metabolite cotinine, benzo[a]pyrene, and aromatic amines. In addition to discussing the toxicants, this article also reviews the complications associated with POI and the current state of research and application of treatment methods. These findings will contribute to the development of more precise treatments for POI, offering theoretical support for enhancing the long-term quality of life for women affected by this condition.
