Abstract An insight into the damage characteristics of host rock is important for permanent disposal of high-level radioactive waste (HLW). Single loading and multiple loading tests for Beishan granite were carried out. The acoustic emission (AE) monitoring system was utilized simultaneously to measure the damage evolution in the specimens. The results show that, during single loading the AE signal has been maintained at a very high level after dilatancy. But a decreasing trend of AE signals can be observed when the axial stress approaches the peak stress. While during multiple loading, AE signals are mainly generated in the loading period in the elastic stage. However, in the failure and residual stages, AE signals generated in the unloading period are considerable. Most of the AE waveforms have a dominant frequency of less than 200 kHz and amplitude of less than 80 dB, and three frequency bands are obtained. In addition, the amplitude increases with the increase of loading stress. Furthermore, the obtained AE b-values indicate that the relative proportion of micro- to macro-cracks increases first and then decreases with increasing confining pressure. And the AE a-values and b-values confirms that micro cracks develop rapidly in the damage stage and lead to the formation of macro cracks in the residual stage for the specimens experienced multiple loading.

Abstract The application of hydrogels in an underwater environment is limited due to their swelling behavior and the existence of a hydration layer. In this study, a hydrogel based on poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate) (PSBMA), tannic acid (TA) and montmorillonite (MMT) was prepared with excellent anti-swelling properties and underwater self-adhesion properties. The PSBMA hydrogel has excellent anti-swelling properties due to the strong electrostatic interaction between charged groups of PSBMA chains. Inspired by marine mussels, tannic acid modified montmorillonite (TA@MMT) was introduced. Natural polyphenol tannic acid, as a catechol donor, provides a large number of catechol groups for hydrogels. Montmorillonite acts as the physical cross-linking point of PSBMA chains through electrostatic interaction to improve the cohesion of the hydrogel. By combining the adhesion mechanism of zwitterions and catechol, the hydrogel maintains adhesion in air and underwater environments. In addition, a strain sensor was prepared based on the PSBMA/TA@MMT hydrogel, which can closely fit the human skin and stably monitor different movements in air and in underwater environments. Through a Bluetooth communication system, long-distance information transmission can be achieved. Therefore, the PSBMA/TA@MMT hydrogel broadens the application prospect of wearable devices in the underwater environment.

Abstract The Internet of Things technology provides convenience for data acquisition in environmental monitoring and environmental protection and can also avoid invasive damage caused by traditional data acquisition methods. An adaptive cooperative optimization seagull algorithm for optimal coverage of heterogeneous sensor networks is proposed in order to address the issue of coverage blind zone and coverage redundancy in the initial random deployment of heterogeneous sensor network nodes in the sensing layer of the Internet of Things. Calculate the individual fitness value according to the total number of nodes, coverage radius, and area edge length, select the initial population, and aim at the maximum coverage rate to determine the position of the current optimal solution. After continuous updating, when the number of iterations is maximum, the global output is output. The optimal solution is the node's mobile position. A scaling factor is introduced to dynamically adjust the relative displacement between the current seagull individual and the optimal individual, which improves the exploration and development ability of the algorithm. Finally, the optimal seagull individual position is fine-tuned by random opposite learning, leading the whole seagull to move to the correct position in the given search space, improving the ability to jump out of the local optimum, and further increasing the optimization accuracy. The experimental simulation results demonstrate that, compared with the coverage and network energy consumption of the

Abstract Rapamycin is a polyketide macrocyclic antibiotic with exceptional pharmacological potential. To explore the potential mechanism of rapamycin overproduction, the intracellular metabolic differences of three chemical elicitor treatments were first investigated by combining them with dynamic metabolomics and network analysis. The metabolic response characteristics of each chemical elicitor treatment were identified by a weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) model. According to the analysis of the identified metabolic modules, the changes in the cell membrane permeability might play a key role in rapamycin overproduction for dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) treatment. The enhancement of the starter unit of 4,5-dihydroxycyclohex-1-ene carboxylic acid (DHCHC) and the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) availability were the main functions in the LaCl

Abstract As an important quality determinant of Toona sinensis, the unique aroma largely impacts the purchasing behavior of consumers. However, the underlying formation mechanism of the characteristic aroma of T. sinensis remains poorly understood. In this work, integrative volatile/nonvolatile compounds profiling and RNA sequencing were used to characterize six T. sinensis cultivars. Volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) and terpenoids were the main volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in T. sinensis, accounting for 36.95-67.27% and 17.75-31.36% of the total VOC content, respectively. Notably, the VOCs originated from terpenoid biosynthesis, and the degradation of unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) played important roles in reconciling the irritating odor of VSCs. The above differential metabolic profiles are the main sources of the specific aroma of different T. sinensis cultivars. Furthermore, 13 volatile organic compounds were identified as potential biomarkers to distinguish these T. sinensis cultivars by chemometric analysis. Based on the analysis of transcriptomic datasets, the potential biosynthetic pathways of the key VSCs were firstly confirmed in T. sinensis. It was found that 1-propenylsulfenic acid is a crucial precursor in the formation of characteristic VSCs in T. sinensis. Additionally, two potential mechanisms were proposed to explain the differences of the key VSCs among six T. sinensis cultivars. These results provide theoretical guidance for improving the aroma quality of T. sinensis.

Abstract In the present work, a polybenzimidazole copolymer (cPBI) containing rigid benzene and flexible alicyclic segments was synthesized as the backbone of anion exchange membranes (AEMs). Then the N-spirocyclic quaternization based on the imidazole of cPBI was innovatively developed to prepare the cPBI-spiro AEM, which exhibited excellent mechanical properties and chemical stability to oxidative and alkaline conditions. To optimize the conductivity and stability, a series of cPBI-xp-ys AEMs were further prepared by balancing the ratio of long side chain piperidinium and spirocyclic quaternization ammonium (QA). As a result, the cPBI-0.6p-0.4s AEM with apparent microphase separation structure displayed the OH⁻ conductivity of 110.35 mS/cm and swelling ratio of 17.1% at 80 °C. The cPBI-0.4p-0.6s AEM maintained 75.67 wt% mass in Fenton's reagent (3% H₂O₂ and 4 ppm FeSO₄) at 80 °C for 72 h and 83.20% conductivity in 2 M NaOH at 80 °C for 2016 h. Moreover, the current density of the anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) with cPBI-0.4p-0.6s AEM was 553 mA/cm² at 2.1 V, the AEMWE could be operated stably under 200 mA/cm² at 80 °C for 10 h. These results indicate that the cPBI-based AEMs containing long side chain piperidinium and spirocyclic QA structures have great potential application in AEMWEs.

Abstract Schwann cells (SCs) are myelinating cells that promote peripheral nerve regeneration. When nerve lesions form, SCs are destroyed, ultimately hindering nerve repair. The difficulty in treating nerve repair is exacerbated due to SC's limited and slow expansion capacity. Therapeutic use of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) is emerging in combating peripheral nerve injury due to these cells' SC differentiation capability and can be harvested easily in large numbers. Despite ASC's therapeutic potential, their transdifferentiation period typically takes more than two weeks. In this study, we demonstrate that metabolic glycoengineering (MGE) technology enhances ASC differentiation into SCs. Specifically, the sugar analog Ac
