Abstract Objective: To explore the relationship between the percentage of energy intake from macronutrients and obesity in Chinese adult residents, and analyze the cut-off values of macronutrients for predicting obesity.
Methods: Data was collected in China Health and Nutrition Survey(CHNS)in 1991-2018. Adults who participated in at least two waves of the surveys and were not obese at baseline were selected as the study subjects. Obesity was defined as body mass index(BMI)≥28.0 kg/m~2. Generalized estimating equation was used to analyze the relationship between the percentage of energy intake from macronutrients and BMI and obesity, and receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC) was used to analyze the cut-off values of percentage of energy intake from macronutrients to predict obesity.
Results: The percentage of energy intake from protein and fat of adult residents in 15 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities) in China showed an increasing trend(P<0.01), and the percentage of energy intake from carbohydrate showed a decreasing trend(P<0.01) between 1991 and 2018. After adjusting for covariates, the group of percentage of energy intake from fat in 20%~30%(β=0.05, 95%CI 0.01-0.08)and ≥30%(β=0.15, 95%CI 0.11-0.18)were positively correlated with BMI compared with the group of percentage of energy intake from fat <20%, and the risk of obesity in 20%-30% and ≥ 30% was increased by 17%(OR=1.17, 95%CI 1.04-1.31)and 6%(OR=1.06, 95%CI 1.24-1.56), respectively. Compared with the group of the percentage of energy intake from carbohydrate < 50%, the group of 50% to 65%(β=-0.08, 95% CI-0.11--0.05) and ≥ 65%(β=-0.17, 95%CI-0.20--0.13) was negatively correlated with BMI, and the percentage of energy intake from carbohydrate ≥ 65% reduced the risk of obesity(OR=0.71, 95%CI 0.63-0.80).
Conclusion: Carbohydrate intake was inversely correlated with the risk of obesity, and fat intake was positively correlated with the risk of obesity. Moderate intake of carbohydrates and reduced fat intake can prevent obesity.

Abstract Objective: Angiogenesis is a key process of repairing tissue damage, and it is regulated by the delicate balance between anti-angiogenesis factors. In the present study, we investigate whether transcription factor cellular promoter 2 (TFCP2) is required for upstream binding protein 1 (UBP1)-mediated angiogenesis.
Methods: Levels of UBP1 and TFCP2 in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) are detected by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (q-PCR) and Western blotting (WB). Effects of UBP1 on angiogenesis and migration are detected by tube-like network formation on matrigel assay and scratch assay. The interaction between UBP1 and TFCP2 is predicted and verified by STRING and Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP).
Results: Firstly, the UBP1 expression level was up-regulated in the stimuli of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in HUVECs, and the knockdown of UBP1 inhibited angiogenesis and migration of HUVECs. Then, UBP1 interacted with TFCP2. Besides, the TFCP2 expression level was up-regulated in VEGF-stimulated HUVECs. Furthermore, knockdown of TFCP2 inhibited angiogenesis and migration in VEGF-stimulated HUVECs, and down-regulation of UBP1 enhanced the inhibition.
Conclusion: TFCP2 also plays a key role in UBP1 mediated angiogenesis of HUVECs stimulated by VEGF. These findings will provide a new theoretical basis for the treatment of angiogenic diseases.

Abstract Appropriate dietary patterns for preserving cognitive function in China remains unknown. This study explored the association between dietary pattern and cognitive function in the Chinese population. A total of 6308 adults aged 55 and above who participated in the China Health and Nutrition Survey at least two waves from 1997 to 2018 were selected. The dietary pattern was determined using the reduced rank regression method with responses regarding vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, iron, copper, and selenium intakes. We used a three-level random coefficient model to evaluate the association. A "vegetable-pork" dietary pattern characterized by high intakes of Legume products, vegetables, fruits, nuts, pork, fish, and plant oil was identified. Compared to the first quartile (Q1) of dietary scores, the regression coefficients (

Abstract This study aimed to explore how cold acclimation (CA) modulates cold stress in tobacco leaves and reveal the relationship between CA and cold stress resistance, and the mechanism of CA-induced plant resistance to cold stress. This study examined the effects of CA treatment (at 8–10℃ for 2 d) on the cold tolerance of tobacco leaves under 4°C cold stress treatment using seedlings without CA treatment as the control (NA). In both CA and NA leaves, cold stress treatment resulted in a decrease in maximum photochemical efficiency of PSII (F ᵥ /F ₘ), increase in relative variable fluorescence (V J) at 2 ms on the standardized OJIP curve, inhibition of PSII activity, and impairment of electron transfer on the acceptor side. Besides increasing the malondialdehyde (MDA) content and electrolyte leakage rate, the cold stress exacerbated the degree of membrane peroxidation. The CA treatment also induced the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), including superoxide anion (O₂·⁻) and H₂O₂, and increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT) and ascorbic acid peroxidase (APX). The CA treatment also enhanced the accumulation of soluble sugar (SS) and soluble protein (SP), cyclic electron flow (CEF), and the proportion of regulatory energy dissipation Y(NPQ). Moreover, CA+ cold stress treatment significantly reduced CEF and Y(NPQ) in tobacco leaves than under NA+ cold stress treatment, thus significantly alleviating the degree of PSII photoinhibition. In conclusion, CA treatment significantly alleviated PSII photoinhibition and oxidative damage in tobacco leaves under cold stress treatment. Improvement in cold resistance of tobacco leaves is associated with the induction of antioxidant enzyme activity, accumulation of osmoregulation substances, and initiation of photoprotective mechanisms.

Abstract DNA-based molecular logic gates have been developed rapidly but most of them have a single output mode. This study is to develop a triple-output label-free fluorescent DNA-based multifunctional molecular logic gate with berberine as a fluorescent signal and a Ag⁺–aptamer as a recognition matrix. The Ag⁺–aptamer has been identified to switch from a random coil to an i-motif structure of C–Ag⁺–C from a Ag⁺-induced responsive conformational change. As a fluorescent probe, berberine is ultrasensitive to the changes of microenvironments, and the binding to i-motif DNA’s more rigid structure causes a significant increase in fluorescence, anisotropy, and lifetime. The addition of cysteine to the berberine/C–Ag⁺–C system disintegrates the i-motif DNA structure because of the strong coordination between Ag⁺ and cysteine, and then the triple-output signals are almost retrieved. Given this, a highly sensitive triple-output molecular logic gate for the analyses of Ag⁺ and cysteine is constructed with high specificity. Moreover, this simple and cost-effective molecular logic gate has been applied for the detection of cysteine and Ag⁺ in various real environmental samples including river water, PM₂.₅, soil, and food samples with satisfactory recoveries from 89.83 to 106.04%.
