Abstract The recognized role of neuroinflammation in the age-related deterioration of neuronal function highlights the importance of understanding the factors that control microglial activation. Microglia, as the immune cells of the brain, are the arbiters of the inflammatory profile in the brain. Normally they are maintained in a quiescent state by means of ligand-receptor interactions with neurons, within a prevailing anti-inflammatory microenvironment. The evidence indicates that, as the ageing process continues, microglia become activated, shift towards an inflammatory phenotype and alter the milieu in the brain. Although there has been progress in identifying factors that contribute to age-related microglial activation, our understanding remains incomplete. Here we report that there was an age-related increase in circulating inflammatory cytokines, accompanied by microglial activation. Neutrophils, and to a greater extent, macrophages, infiltrate the brain with age, perhaps as a result of increased chemokine expression in the brain, specifically CXCL1 and CCL2. We sought to determine whether macrophages might trigger microglial activation and the evidence shows that conditioned medium obtained from interferon-γ (IFNγ)-stimulated macrophages potently activated microglia. The data suggest that infiltrating macrophages may be one factor that contributes to age-related microglial activation.

Abstract Aim of study: To determine outcomes in pediatric patients who had an in-hospital cardiac arrest and subsequently received extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR). Our secondary objective was to identify cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) event characteristics and CPR quality metrics associated with survival after ECPR.
Methods: Multicenter retrospective cohort study of pediatric patients in the pediRES-Q database who received ECPR after in-hospital cardiac arrest between July 1, 2015 and June 2, 2021. Primary outcome was survival to ICU discharge. Secondary outcomes were survival to hospital discharge and favorable neurologic outcome at ICU and hospital discharge.
Results: Among 124 patients included in this study, median age was 0.9 years (IQR 0.2-5) and the majority of patients had primarily cardiac disease (92 patients, 75%). Survival to ICU discharge occurred in 61/120 (51%) patients, 36/61 (59%) of whom had favorable neurologic outcome. No demographic or clinical variables were associated with survival after ECPR.
Conclusion: In this multicenter retrospective cohort study of pediatric patients who received ECPR for IHCA we found a high rate of survival to ICU discharge with good neurologic outcome.

Abstract AIDS service organizations have played a vital role in responding to the HIV epidemic, yet many are plagued by an underrepresentation of racial, ethnic, and sexual minorities in leadership positions. In response, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, HIV Division, created the Wisconsin Health Leaders Fellowship program to provide training and skills to gay and bisexual men of color in HIV service organizations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The program was evaluated using in-depth pre- and post-Fellowship interviews with fellows, their agency preceptors, and Fellowship staff (

Abstract Reference sets contain known content that are used to identify relevant or filter irrelevant content. Application profiles are a type of reference set that contain digital artifacts associated with application software. An application profile can be compared against a target data set to identify relevant evidence of application usage in a variety of investigation scenarios. The research objective is to design and implement a standardised strategy to collect and distribute application software artifacts using application profiles. An advanced technique for creating application profiles was designed using a formalised differential analysis strategy. The design was implemented in a live differential forensic analysis tool, LiveDiff, to automate and simplify data collection. A storage mechanism was designed based on a previously standardised forensic data abstraction. The design was implemented in a new data abstraction, Application Profile XML (APXML), to provide storage, distribution and automated processing of collected artifacts.
