Abstract In the heyday of Chinese feudal society, women's status in the society of the Sui-Tang period was improved in the Tang Dynasty. The demand for female to stay young and anti-aging had attracted lots of attention in the society, thus providing a favorable social environment for the formation and development of Chinese herbal cosmetology. The important representative medical works on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) were published in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, such as

Abstract MSM are a high-risk population for HPV infection and related diseases. MSM can be effectively protected by quadrivalent and nine-valent HPV vaccines. This paper outlines the significance of providing HPV vaccination to MSM, summarizes the basis of HPV vaccination in MSM, and puts forward the following recommendations. First, China should expedite the development and approval of the HPV vaccine for male use. Second, HIV-positive MSM should vaccinate against HPV as soon as possible. Third, prioritize HPV vaccination for MSM individuals aged 26 or less. Fourth, for MSM aged over 26, catch-up vaccination or opportunistic vaccination should be provided when HPV vaccine resources are sufficient. Implementing this vaccination strategy can provide protection for the MSM and control the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Abstract Pectobacterium spp. and Dickeya spp. cause aerial stem rot on potatoes worldwide (Charkowski 2018). Potato plants (cv. Xisen6# or Youjin) with aerial stem rot or blackleg symptoms were observed in the commercial fields in Changji, Xinjiang Province, in September 2021 and Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, in August 2021 in China. The field disease incidences were 45 to 50% and 15 to 20% in Changji (2 ha) and Harbin (1 ha), respectively. Five diseased plants from each field site were collected to isolate the pathogen. Symptomatic stems were soaked in 75% ethanol for 2 min, rinsed, and ground in sterile distilled water (Handique et al. 2022). The suspension was plated onto a crystal violet pectate (CVP) agar plate. Three days after incubation at 28°C, bacterial colonies that developed pits on CVP plates were purified and sequenced for identification using the universal 16S rRNA gene primer set 27F/1492R. Amplified 16S rDNA sequences from two isolates designated as ZRIMU1267 and ZRIMU1366 showed more than 99% sequence identity to the Pectobacterium versatile CFBP6051ᵀ type strain, and the sequences were submitted to GenBank (accession nos. OP476349 and OP476350). Additionally, six housekeeping gene sequences were uploaded to GenBank: proA (OP487826 and OP487832), gyrA (OP487828 and OP487834), icdA (OP487823 and OP487829), mdh (OP487825 and OP487831), gapA (OP487824 and OP487830), and rpoS (OP487827 and OP487833) (Ma et al. 2007; Waleron et al. 2008). A phylogenetic tree based on concatenated sequences (MLSA) of the housekeeping genes of the two isolates was constructed using MEGA X. The phylogenetic tree of MLSA sequences showed that the sequences from the isolates ZRIMU1267 and ZRIMU1366 clustered with P. versatile CFBP6051ᵀ, indicating that these isolates were P. versatile at the species level. Koch’s postulates were performed on 3-week-old potato seedlings (cv. Favorita) and tubers. The bacterial suspension (100 μl, 10⁵ CFU/ml) or sterile phosphate-buffered solution was injected into the crown area of the seedlings for the development of aerial stem rot or drenched in the potting mix for the development of blackleg, and the plants were covered with polythene bags to maintain 100% relative humidity at 25° for 2 days. Five seedlings were inoculated for each strain, and the experiment was repeated twice. Seven days after stem injection, the infected area of the inoculated seedlings was rotten and turned black, or even lodged, whereas the controls were symptomless. Four days after drench application, the seedlings were wilted and lodged, whereas the controls remained symptomless. The tuber slice assay for soft rot development was performed by adding bacterial suspension (100 μl, 10⁵ CFU/ml). One day after inoculation, the infected tubers rotted, whereas the controls remained symptomless. ZRIMU1267 and ZRIMU1366 were reisolated from infected tissues on CVP plates and identified by 16S rRNA sequences to complete Koch’s postulates. Diseases on potato have been reported to be caused by P. atrosepticum, P. carotovorum, P. brasiliense, P. parmentieri, P. polaris, and P. punjabense in China (Cao et al. 2021; Handique et al. 2022; Wang et al. 2022; Zhao et al. 2018). P. versatile causing aerial stem rot on potatoes has been reported in Hebei Province (Han et al. 2022), while our study reported P. versatile strains that are able to cause multiple diseases on potatoes in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Heilongjiang Province of China. The results indicated that P. versatile might be widely distributed in northern China, and it is necessary to include cropping seasons and postharvest strategies to control diseases caused by P. versatile.

Abstract Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is a mitochondria hereditary eye disease that involves with retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) resulting eventually in degeneration and atrophy of optic nerve. The three mitochondrial DNA mutations (ND4 G11778A, ND1G3460A, ND6T14484C) have been recognized as the primary mutation locus of LHON. Currently there is no effective therapy for LHON. The result of a clinical trial launched in 2007 indicated that intraocular injection of the recombination of adeno-associated virus and target gene is an effective and safe cure for Leber's Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), which brings hope of treating other hereditary eye diseases with gene therapy. Since LHON mainly involves with RGCs, the target gene can be delivered directly to RGCs with the means of injecting the recombination into vitreous cavity, therefore resulting in less damage to retina as compared to other gene therapy for LCA which require the drug to be injected under the retina. This article summarizes the research progress of the clinical trial relevant to gene therapy for LHON.
