    Abstract Whether Marx’s economics and Marxist political economy can be formalized using mathematics is a controversial and divisive issue. From studying the text of Capital and its manuscripts, it emerges that Marx’s research on the capitalist mode of production involves the application of mathematical methods. Marx creates a set of symbols related to the social production of capitalism, and on that basis constructs an economic model corresponding to his theoretical analysis. Obviously, the mathematical method is an integral part of Marx’s economic methodology. In a certain sense, using mathematical methods to study and formalize Marx’s economics is in line with Marx’s approach to economic topics. However, the formalization of Marx’s economics must strictly observe the relevant principles; otherwise, it will lead to serious problems.

    Abstract Purpose – Karl Marx's social capital reproduction theory is his significant contribution to economics. The purpose of this paper is to review the contributions of the exploration of Chinese economists (especially Professor Liu Guoguang) in the concretization of Marx’s social capital reproduction theory combined with socialist construction since 1949. Design/methodology/approach – During this process, Professor Liu Guoguang, a famous Chinese Marxist economist, has made an outstanding contribution by creating a Marxist social capital reproduction model with Chinese characteristics and a distinctive Marxist economic growth model. Professor Liu's exploration is still of crucial practical significance to building a socialist market economy today. Findings – The process and achievements in the sinicization exploration of Marx's social capital reproduction theory were reviewed. With the reform and opening up, fundamental changes have occurred in China's economic system – the centralized planned economic system has been transformed into a socialist market economic system. Originality/value – The planned management of the national economy is replaced by a macro-regulation system characterized by gross control gradually, and the concepts of agriculture, light industry, and heavy industry, and their intercorrelation are no longer applied in theory and policy. However, the sinicization exploration of Marx's social capital reproduction theory in the older generation of Marxist economists represented by Liu is not only of historical significance but also of important practical significance.

    Abstract Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic and debilitating mental disorder that affects patients throughout their lives, leading to a diminished quality of life for patients and families, reduced productivity, and higher health care costs. It is of clinical and theoretical importance to investigate a more efficacious therapeutic approach for OCD and the neurophysiological mechanism underlying the efficacy of treatment, potentially associated with the etiology of OCD. Recently, a novel psychotherapy designated cognitive-coping therapy (CCT) has been reported to have a large effect size in OCD treatment. CCT hypothesizes that fear of negative events plays a crucial role in OCD. The study entitled "Decreased left amygdala functional connectivity by cognitive-coping therapy in obsessive-compulsive disorder" attempted to investigate the potential neurophysiological mechanism underlying the efficacy of CCT for OCD. The study provides crystal evidence showing that 4-week pharmacotherapy plus CCT decreases the left amygdala seed-based functional connectivity (LA-FC) with the right anterior cingulate gyrus and the left paracentral lobule/the left superior parietal/left inferior parietal, and 4-week CCT decreases the LA-FC with the left middle occipital gyrus/the left superior parietal. The alteration of the LA-FC with the right anterior cingulate gyrus positively correlates to the reduction of the Yale-Brown obsessive-compulsive scale (Y-BOCS) score. Therefore, it provides new insights into understanding the neurophysiology and neuropsychology behind the onset and treatment of OCD.

    Abstract Abstract Background The six-transmembrane epithelial antigen of prostate (STEAP) family members are known to be involved in various tumor-related biological processes and showed its huge potential role in tumor immunotherapy. Methods Biological differences were investigated through Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and tumor microenvironment analysis by CIBERSORT. Tumor mutation burden (TMB), immunotherapy response and chemotherapeutic drugs sensitivity were estimated in R. Results We established a prognostic signature with the formula: risk score = STEAP1 × 0.3994 + STEAP4 × (− 0.7596), which had a favorable concordance with the prediction. The high-risk group were enriched in cell cycle and RNA and protein synthesis related pathways, while the low-risk group were enriched in complement and metabolic related pathways. And the risk score was significantly correlated with immune cell infiltration. Most notably, the patients in the low-risk group were characterized with increased TMB and decreased tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion (TIDE) score, indicating that these patients showed better immune checkpoint blockade response. Meanwhile, we found the patients with high-risk were more sensitive to some drugs related to cell cycle and apoptosis. Conclusions The novel signature based on STEAPs may be effective indicators for predicting prognosis, and provides corresponding clinical treatment recommendations for HCC patients based on this classification.

    Abstract Objective: To explore the effects of emergency hyperbaric oxygen therapy on nerve injury, angiogenesis and cerebral blood perfusion in patients with acute cerebral infarction. Methods: A total of 118 patients with acute cerebral infarction who were treated in the hospital between April 2015 and October 2017 were selected as study subjects and divided into hyperbaric oxygen group (n=59) and control group (n=59) by random number table method. Control group received conventional therapy, hyperbaric oxygen group received conventional therapy combined with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and both groups were treated for 2 weeks. The differences in nerve injury, angiogenesis and cerebral blood perfusion were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results: Differences in nerve injury, angiogenesis and cerebral perfusion were not significant between the two groups immediately after diagnosis. After 2 weeks of treatment, serum nerve injury indexes IGF-1, Copeptin, PAO, AQP4 and H-FABP contents of hyperbaric oxygen group were lower than those of control group; serum angiogenesis indexes PEDF, Ang-1 and VEGF contents were higher than those of control group whereas ES content was lower than that of control group; stenotic-side cerebral blood perfusion parameters CBF and CBV levels were higher than those of control group whereas TTP level was lower than that of control group. Conclusion: Emergency hyperbaric oxygen therapy can effectively reduce nerve injury, promote cerebral angiogenesis and increase cerebral blood perfusion in patients with acute cerebral infarction.

    Abstract Abstract This study utilizes digital image correlation (DIC) technology to measure the far-field displacements and strains of rock specimens during the entire loading and unloading. Through analyzing the distributions of strain, displacement and their variations per unit length at different stages, the variations of both length and migration velocity of the fracture process zone (FPZ) were studied, and the crack propagation was also investigated. In addition, the entire path of crack propagation was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results reveal that (1) the fractured ligament can be divided into three zones based on the displacement variation per unit length: intact zone, crack propagation zone, and FPZ. (2) The FPZ length reaches its maximum at the peak load and then decreases, and the minimum length even is only 1/3–1/2 of the maximum length. The FPZ migration velocity is − 48 to 1460 m/s. FPZ’s microscale features are intergranular microcracks, transgranular microcracks, cleavage, and debris on fracture surface and around main crack propagation path. (3) The crack propagation length during peak load to peak-post 90% accounts for more than 1/3–1/4 of the entire post-peak length. Crack propagation is alternating fast and slow, i.e., the velocity of crack propagation varies regularly in the range of 24–700 m/s. The region of crack initial propagation is more severely damaged compared to other propagation regions.

Here, we report an enantioselective total synthesis of the Ganoderma meroterpenoid (‒)-lucidumone.     Abstract Chitinases, which catalyze the hydrolysis of chitin, the primary components of fungal cell walls, play key roles in defense responses, symbiotic associations, plant growth, and stress tolerance. In this study, 23 chitinase genes were identified in watermelon ( Citrullus lanatus [Thunb.]) and classified into five classes through homology search and phylogenetic analysis. The genes with similar exon-intron structures and conserved domains were clustered into the same class. The putative cis -elements involved in the responses to phytohormone, stress, and plant development were identified in their promoter regions. A tissue-specific expression analysis showed that the ClChi genes were primarily expressed in the roots (52.17%), leaves (26.09%), and flowers (34.78%). Moreover, qRT-PCR results indicate that ClChis play multifaceted roles in the interaction between plant/environment. More ClChi members were induced by Race 2 of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. niveum , and eight genes were expressed at higher levels on the seventh day after inoculation with Races 1 and 2, suggesting that these genes play a key role in the resistance of watermelon to Fusarium wilt. Collectively, these results improve knowledge of the chitinase gene family in watermelon species and help to elucidate the roles played by chitinases in the responses of watermelon to various stresses.
