    Abstract Background: Fibrosis has important pathoetiological and prognostic roles in chronic liver disease. This study evaluates the role of radiomics in staging liver fibrosis.
    Method: After literature search in electronic databases (Embase, Ovid, Science Direct, Springer, and Web of Science), studies were selected by following precise eligibility criteria. The quality of included studies was assessed, and meta-analyses were performed to achieve pooled estimates of area under receiver-operator curve (AUROC), accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of radiomics in staging liver fibrosis compared to histopathology.
    Results: Fifteen studies (3718 patients; age 47 years [95% confidence interval (CI): 42, 53]; 69% [95% CI: 65, 73] males) were included. AUROC values of radiomics for detecting significant fibrosis (F2-4), advanced fibrosis (F3-4), and cirrhosis (F4) were 0.91 [95%CI: 0.89, 0.94], 0.92 [95%CI: 0.90, 0.95], and 0.94 [95%CI: 0.93, 0.96] in training cohorts and 0.89 [95%CI: 0.83, 0.91], 0.89 [95%CI: 0.83, 0.94], and 0.93 [95%CI: 0.91, 0.95] in validation cohorts, respectively. For diagnosing significant fibrosis, advanced fibrosis, and cirrhosis the sensitivity of radiomics was 84.0% [95%CI: 76.1, 91.9], 86.9% [95%CI: 76.8, 97.0], and 92.7% [95%CI: 89.7, 95.7] in training cohorts, and 75.6% [95%CI: 67.7, 83.5], 80.0% [95%CI: 70.7, 89.3], and 92.0% [95%CI: 87.8, 96.1] in validation cohorts, respectively. Respective specificity was 88.6% [95% CI: 83.0, 94.2], 88.4% [95% CI: 81.9, 94.8], and 91.1% [95% CI: 86.8, 95.5] in training cohorts, and 86.8% [95% CI: 83.3, 90.3], 94.0% [95% CI: 89.5, 98.4], and 88.3% [95% CI: 84.4, 92.2] in validation cohorts. Limitations included use of several methods for feature selection and classification, less availability of studies evaluating a particular radiological modality, lack of a direct comparison between radiology and radiomics, and lack of external validation.
    Conclusion: Although radiomics offers good diagnostic accuracy in detecting liver fibrosis, its role in clinical practice is not as clear at present due to comparability and validation constraints.

    Abstract Study design: Diagnostic study.
    Objective: Programmed cell death 10 (PDCD10) is a new versatile molecule involved in signal transduction regulation in angiogenesis and tumors. The potential of using it as a biomarker for the diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is still unknown.
    Setting: University laboratory in Gannan Medical University, China.
    Methods: Expression of PDCD10 was analyzed using clinical samples of patients with AS and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) data GDS5231. To explore its function, PDCD10 was upregulated and downregulated in synovial cells. Spearman analysis was used to study the association between PDCD10 and the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) and the modified Stoke Ankylosing Spondylitis Spinal Score (mSASSS). The Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was applied to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of PDCD10.
    Results: Expression of PDCD10 was upregulated in patients with AS and it is capable of promoting the calcification of synovial cells. A positive association between PDCD10 and the BASDAI and the mSASSS was observed. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of PDCD10 was 82% with a 95% confidence interval of [0.772, 0.868].
    Conclusions: PDCD10 is upregulated in patients with AS and it can promote the calcification of synovial cells in vitro. PDCD10 is positively associated with outcome parameters of AS. ROC analysis of PDCD10 suggests that it can be used as a biomarker for the diagnosis and treatment of AS.

    Abstract In contrast to the general thought that the collisions are intrinsically dephasing in nature and detrimental to quantum entanglement at room or higher temperatures, here, we show that in the conventional ladder-type electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) configuration, when the probe field intensity is not very weak as compared to the pump field, the entanglement between the bright pump and probe fields can be remarkably enhanced with the increase of the collisional decay rates in a moderate range in an inhomogeneously broadened atomic system. The strengthened entanglement results from the enhancement of constructive interference and suppression of destructive interference between one-photon and multiphoton transition pathways. Our results clearly indicate that the collisions offer a promising alternative to enhance entanglement at room or higher temperatures despite of the dephasing nature, which provides great convenience for experimental implementation, and opens new prospects and applications in realistic quantum computation and quantum information processing.

    Abstract Ethnic pharmacological relevance: Cataract is the most common cause of blindness worldwide, a visual disorder caused by a clouded lens that seriously affects People's Daily lives. Age-related cataract (ARC) is the most common type of cataract due to long-term combined effects of many factors, and its pathogenesis is varied. At present, the surgery is the main treatment for cataracts, but it is still limited to the prevention, treatment of early cataracts and the postoperative complications care. While, its drug treatments are still in the stage of exploration and research. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a unique resource in China, is conceived under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine theory and has little toxicity and side effects, but it has made great progress in the treatment and prevention of ARC.
    Aim of this review: This review presents an overview of the pathogenesis of ARC in both traditional and modern medicines and summarizes the history and therapeutic effect of TCM on ARC including their formula, crude drugs and active components, and also the other auxiliary methods.
    Methods: A number of recognized databases like SciFinder, PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were extensively explored by using keywords and phrases such as "cataract", "age-related cataract", "traditional medicine", "ethnopharmacology", "herbs", "medicinal plants", or other relevant terms, and the plants/phytoconstituents that are evaluated in the models of age-related cataract. As well as the current TCM adjuvant therapy used in the clinical treatment were summarized.
    Results: TCM revealed to plays an active role in treating age-related cataract, via multi-pathway and multi-target, and can treat or delay ARC by inhibiting abnormal glucose metabolism, antioxidant damage, inhibiting LEC apoptosis, and so on, which is in concordance with the good effects of the global use of TCM in clinical application. Concerning the early prevention and treatment of cataract and postoperative complications, TCM and auxiliary methods remain to achieve better clinical effects.
    Conclusion: ARC belongs to the category of "Yuan Yi Nei Zhang" in TCM theory, showing that there are many causes of ARC including aging, and kidney-yang, spleen, sperm and blood deficiencies. At the same time, the viscera gradually decline, as well as yin or yang progressively become weak, especially in the elder people. So, TCM could be mainly based on liver, kidney, and spleen syndrome differentiation, personalizing diagnosis and treatment, following multiple targets, regulating fundamentally yin and yang, and thus justifying the advantages of Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of ARC.

    Abstract Urban soils host diverse bacteria crucial for ecosystem functions and urban health. As urbanization rises, artificial light at night (ALAN) imposes disturbances on soil ecosystems, yet how ALAN affects the structure and stability of soil bacterial community remains unclear. Here we coupled a short-term incubation experiment, community profiling, network analysis, and in situ field survey to assess the ecological impacts of ALAN. We showed that ALAN influenced bacterial compositions and shifted the bacterial network to a less stable phase, altering denitrification potential. Such transition in community stability probably resulted from an ALAN-induced decrease in competition and/or an increase in facilitation, in line with the Stress Gradient Hypothesis. Similar destabilizing effects were also detected in bacterial networks in multiple urban soils subjected to different levels of ALAN stress, supporting the action of ALAN on naturally-occurring soil bacterial communities. Overall, our findings highlight ALAN as a new form of anthropogenic stress that jeopardizes the stability of soil bacterial community, which would facilitate ecological projection of expanding ALAN exposure.

    Abstract Abstract Endovascular treatment is widely used in acute cerebral infarction (ACI), but patient prognosis varies greatly. We aimed to investigate the predictive value of midline shift (MLS) threshold for the clinical prognosis of patients with ACI who undergo emergency endovascular treatment. We prospectively enrolled patients with ACI who received endovascular treatment within 24 h of onset. Cranial images were collected within 24 h after endovascular treatment. We assessed MLS at the level of the midbrain, pineal calcification, septum pellucida, and falx cerebri and noted the maximum MLS (MLS[max]) among these locations. Functional outcomes were assessed at 90 days using the modified Rankin Scale. Receiver operating characteristic curves and optimal cutoff points were used to analyze the predictive value of MLS. We enrolled 82 patients, including 46 with poor outcomes. Although the MLS values at all levels were significantly different between the poor and favorable outcome groups (p < 0.01), the MLS(max) tended to be a better marker for 90-day poor outcome. To predict poor outcome, the optimal cutoff values for MLS(max) within 24 and 48 h after intervention were 0.45 and 2.35 mm, respectively. MLS(max) has predictive value for patient prognosis.

    Abstract According to economists, rapid economic growth depends on the active energy system of any country. Through financial development, the latest trend of globalization applies pressure on energy consumption, which eventually validates growth in the economy. Therefore, the role of financial development and renewable energy consumption on economic growth is still being questioned. This paper contributes to this issue by raising concerns about the possible asymmetric links among financial development, renewable energy, and economic growth along with capital and labor. Applying a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag model, our paper demonstrates that neglecting the involvement of nonlinearities leads to confusing conclusions. Results show that variables of interest have asymmetric impacts in short- and long-runs. Our analysis shows that short- and long-run impacts of renewable energy consumption and financial development on growth vary significantly. Notably, this study finds that renewable energy consumption has a positive and significant impact on economic growth in the short- and long-runs, and financial development has a strong, asymmetric, and positive effect on economic growth in the short and negative effects in long-run. The findings also have important implications for policymakers as well as investors in Pakistan's energy sector.

    Abstract Background: Conditional survival (CS) represents the probability of surviving for additional years after the patient has survived for several years, dynamically describing the survival rate of the patient with the varying time of survival. The aim of this study was to evaluate the conditional cause-specific survival (CCSS) after chemotherapy and local treatment for metastatic breast cancer, and to identify the prognostic factors affecting the CCSS.
    Methods: Patients diagnosed with primary stage IV breast cancer in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from 2010 to 2015 were included. CS is defined as the probability of additional survival for
    Results: A total of 3,194 patients were included. The 5-year CSS was 39%, whereas the 5-year CCSS increased to 46%, 57%, 71%, and 85% after the diagnosis of 1, 2, 3, and 4 years. For patients with adverse clinical pathological features, CCSS had more pronounced increase with survival time and is more different from the CSS at diagnosis. No matter at the time of diagnosis or 1 year or 3 years after diagnosis, HER2 status, local treatment, and multisite metastasis were independent prognostic factors that affect the long-term survival of patients (all

    Abstract Background: Concerns regarding statin-related neurocognitive disorders have emerged in recent years. However, previous studies have reported inconsistent results. We evaluated the association between statins and neurocognitive disorders using the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS).
    Research design and methods: Data from 2004 to 2022 were obtained from the FAERS database. After deduplication and standardization of drug names, we extracted neurocognitive disorder event (NCDE) cases reported with statins as the suspected drugs. The significant association between statins and NCDE was evaluated using the reporting odds ratio (ROR) and information component.
    Results: In total, 6,959 NCDE cases with statins as the primary suspected drugs were identified. Signals were detected in pravastatin (ROR, 1.49; 95% CI: 1.32-1.67), atorvastatin (ROR, 1.39; 95% CI: 1.34-1.44), and simvastatin (ROR, 1.31; 95% CI: 1.25-1.38). Age-stratified analysis showed that (1) in the population aged 65 years and older, signals were detected for atorvastatin, simvastatin, rosuvastatin, pravastatin, lovastatin, fluvastatin, and pitavastatin; and (2) in populations under 65 years of age, signals were detected for atorvastatin, simvastatin, rosuvastatin, pravastatin, and lovastatin.
    Conclusions: This study suggests a significant association between the NCDE and statins, including atorvastatin, simvastatin, and pravastatin. The intensity of the association increased with age.
