Abstract Pseudostellaria heterophylla (family Caryophyllaceae) is a perennial herbaceous plant. Its tuberous roots are highly valued in traditional Chinese medicine. The medicine has multiple pharmacological actions in curing inappetence, debility, diabetes, and weakness (Hua et al. 2016). A severe rot disease (3.4 to 8.1% incidence) was observed in basal stem and root portions of P. heterophylla in Ningde City (27°08′ N, 119°88′ E), Fujian Province, during 2016. Infected plants displayed water soaked lesions on leaves, stem bases, and roots. Whitish abundant mycelia with light or reddish brown sclerotia were seen on affected leaves, basal stems, roots, and surrounding soil. The fungus was consistently isolated from the symptomatic tissues on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium. The mycelial growth on PDA was 14 to 17 mm/day and the white, cottony mycelia covered the entire surface of the PDA plate after 5 days of incubation at 30°C. Whitish sclerotial bodies appeared after 8 days of incubation. Sclerotia were globose and tan or light to dark brown in color. The number of sclerotia per plate ranged from 10 to 38 (mean 24 ± 14, n = 3). The sclerotia varied greatly in size, with an average diameter of 2.58 mm. Irregular sclerotia with surface markings ranging from 1.1 × 2.5 mm to 2.4 × 4.0 mm across were observed, in line with the previous studies (Mukherjee et al. 2015; Punja and Damiani 1996; Stevens 1931). Further, the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the fungus was amplified by using primer pairs ITS1F and ITS4 and then subjected to sequencing. nBLAST search analysis showed sequences from four isolates were 100% similar and shared 99% homology with Sclerotium delphinii (strain CBA-HW05, GenBank accession no. GU567775.1). Phylogenetic tree analysis with MEGA 4.1 software confirmed that the fungal isolate clustered with S. delphinii strain CBA-HW05 (GU567775.1). Based on morphological and molecular characteristics, the causal agent was identified as S. rolfsii var. delphinii. The sequence was deposited in GenBank (accession no. MK073010). Pathogenicity tests were conducted using 35-day-old tissue culture-raised seedlings. Three seedlings were inoculated with 5-day-old PDA-grown mycelia of the fungal isolate. The experiment was repeated three times. All nine S. rolfsii var. delphinii-inoculated seedlings showed typical disease symptoms after 9 days of inoculation. The pot experiment further demonstrated the high pathogenicity of isolate W-SD6 to the potted seedlings of P. heterophylla. An associated fungal pathogen was consistently reisolated from the inoculated seedlings and its identity was established. Though S. rolfsii var. delphinii is known to cause stem and collar rot in many herbaceous plants (Mukherjee et al. 2015; Wang et al. 2017; Xu et al. 2008), to the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of southern wilt on P. heterophylla caused by S. rolfsii var. delphinii in China. There is a need to develop effective management measures to reduce the occurrence of this disease.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of determining the target vertebral body (TV) of uncompressed elderly osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures through measuring Hounsfield unit (HU) value.
Patients and methods: Elderly patients with osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures aged above 65 years old hospitalized from 2015 to 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. The cases whose TV could not be determined by computed tomography (CT) imaging but confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were selected. The mean HU values of the trabecular bone regions of TV and adjacent vertebral body in the multi-detector CT (MDCT) sagittal three-dimensional reconstructed image were measured and compared. At the same time, 60 thoracolumbar adjacent vertebral bodies without fractures were selected from 20 people, and the mean HU value of the trabecular bone region of each vertebra in the MDCT sagittal three-dimensional reconstructed image was measured and compared.
Results: There were correlations among the mean HU values of 60 thoracolumbar adjacent vertebral bodies in the 20 people without fractures, and there were no differences in the correlations between middle vertebral body (MV) and upper vertebral body (UV) and between MV and lower vertebral body (LV) compared with the correlation between UV and LV. In the 31 fracture cases, the mean HU values had correlations among TV, UV and LV, there was no difference in the comparison of correlations between TV and UV and between TV and LV, but the correlations between TV and UV and between TV and LV had differences compared with the correlation between UV and LV.
Conclusions: The mean HU value of TV of uncompressed elderly osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures is increased abnormally compared with that of the adjacent vertebral body, and it is feasible to determine the TV of uncompressed osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures according to the mean HU value.

Abstract Level structures in the neutron-rich ^{144}Ba nucleus have been reinvestigated by measuring prompt γ rays in the spontaneous fission of ^{252}Cf. The previous s=+1 octupole band structure with reflection asymmetric shape has been expanded, and a side quadrupole band structure based on a 3^{+} state with reflection symmetric shape is identified. Thus, the results show the coexistence of reflection asymmetric and symmetric shapes in ^{144}Ba. This is a first identification of such a shape coexistence structure in a nuclear structure. The other structural characteristics are discussed.

Abstract A USB2000+ micro spectrometer was used to acquire the transmittance spectra of Red Globe table grapes in the range of 400–1 000 nm. Moreover, the sugar content and acidity value were measured chemically. The original spectra were pretreated by SavitZky-Golay smoothing (SG) and then the singularity was eliminated by Monte-Carlo cross validation method (MCCV) followed by dimension reduction by competitive adaptive reweighted sampling for development of a random forest (RF) prediction model. The correlation coefficient and root mean square error of the sugar prediction model were 0.955 8 and 0.315 8 for the calibration set, and 0.956 8 and 0.318 5 for the validation set, respectively. The correlation coefficient and root mean square error of the acidity prediction model were 0.945 6 and 0.300 1 for the calibration set, and 0.940 5 and 0.311 2 for the validation set, respectively. The results showed that this method could be suitable for rapid, nondestructive and accurate detection of sugar content and acidity in Red Globe table grapes.

Abstract The size of ‘Red Globe’ grape bunches is one of the most important quality indicators. A method for size grading of ‘Red Globe’ grape bunches was proposed based on machine vision in this paper. The Red-Green-Blue (RGB) and near infrared (NIR) images of grapes were collected simultaneously with a two-channel camera. Subsequently, the information about green stalks was removed by the normalized super green method from the RGB images, and the local maxima of brightness based on morphological reconstruction was used to identify and locate the grapes in the NIR images. The contours of the fruits were effectively cut and the interference arcs in the edge contour were removed by the gradient segmentation method. Then, the size of the grapes was obtained by random least squares ellipse detection algorithm. A total of 42 bunches of grapes were graded by this method, and 38 of them were graded correctly with an accuracy rate of 90.48%. The accuracy rate is high enough to provide technical support for commercial grape grading.

Abstract Corn starch was treated with raw moisture (30%), screw speed (160 rpm), extrusion temperature (30, 55, 80, 105, 130, and 155°C), and emulsifier (1.2%) to produce the starch extrudate particles in a twin screw extruder. The influence of extrusion processing and composition (starch and emulsifier content) on the viscosity, microstructure, solubility, swelling power, and thermal stability of starch extrudate particles was examined. The SEM results showed that the surface of starch extrudate particles was quite irregular and a fissure could be clearly observed. The X-ray intensities and relative crystallinity were decreased after extrusion treatment. The data highlighted that the gelatinisation temperature and solubility were increased and the gelatinisation enthalpy, viscosity, and swelling power were decreased. The emulsifiers present also influenced the thermal stability and solubility of starch extrudate particles, which were attributed to their ability to modify starch granule interactions. The thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry analysis indicated that the thermal stability of starch extrudate particles was improved after extrusion processing.

Abstract The arachidonic acid metabolizing enzymes, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and 5- lipoxygenase (5-LOX), are both highly expressed during the carcinogenesis in colons. Cigarette smoking promotes these carcinogenic processes at the early stage during adenoma formation. In this article, the involvement of COX-2 and 5-LOX, alongside with the dual COX/5-LOX inhibitors in colorectal cancer development is introduced. The co-regulation of 5-LOX and COX-2 in colon cancer growth and its relationship with cigarette smoke and hyaluronic acid-CD44v6 is also described. It is envisaged that dual inhibition of 5-LOX/COX could be the most promising therapeutic option for the treatment of colorectal cancer in humans.
