Abstract In heterosexual populations, self-objectification is associated with self-sexualizing appearance behaviors. This study examined the relationship between self-objectification and self-sexualizing appearance behaviors and the moderating effect of butch/androgynous/femme sexual self-label identification in Chinese bisexual and lesbian females. We recruited 637 bisexual and lesbian females to complete an online questionnaire that asked about demographic information and feminine and masculine self-sexualizing appearance behaviors and measured the Objectified Body Consciousness Scale. Feminine self-sexualizing appearance behaviors include wearing high heels, short skirts, low-cut outfits, skinny clothes and makeup. Masculine self-sexualizing appearance behaviors include wearing short hair and binding breasts. Femme-identified females scored higher on body surveillance than did butch- and androgynous-identified females. Butch-identified females reported having more masculine self-sexualizing behaviors, whereas femme-identified females reported having more feminine self-sexualizing appearance behaviors. Sexual self-label identification moderated the relationship between self-objectification and feminine self-sexualizing behaviors. Body surveillance was significantly associated with feminine self-sexualizing behaviors in femme- and androgynous-identified females but not in butch-identified females. Body shame was negatively associated with feminine self-sexualizing appearance behaviors in androgynous-identified females. The current findings highlight the role of sexual self-label identification in self-objectification among Chinese bisexual and lesbian females. The findings imply the heterogeneousness of self-objectification among Chinese bisexual and lesbian females.

Abstract Human personality generally refers to coherent individuating patterns in affect, behavior, and cognition. We can only observe and measure behavior, from which we then infer personality and other psychological processes (affect, cognition, etc.). We emphasize that the study of personality always explains or summarizes patterns not only in behavior but also in these other psychological processes inferred from behavior. We thus argue that personality should be attributed only to nonhuman animals with behaviors from which we can infer a sufficiently rich set of psychological processes. The mere inference of a biological trait that explains behavioral variability, on our view, is not sufficient to count as a personality construct and should be given a different term. Methodologically, inferring personality in nonhuman animals entails challenges in characterizing ecologically valid behaviors, doing so across rich and varied environments, and collecting enough data. We suggest that studies should gradually accumulate such corpora of data on a species through well-curated shared databases. A mixture of approaches should include both top-down fit with extant human personality theories (such as the Big Five) as well as bottom-up discovery of species-specific personality dimensions. Adopting the above framework will help us to build a comparative psychology and will provide the most informative models also for understanding human personality, its evolution, and its disorders.

Abstract The treatment of industrial printing and dyeing wastewater is the focus of the chemical environmental protection industry. Noticeably, the physical adsorption has attracted wide attention due to the selective dye adsorption, simple process, and convenient operation. New aerogels featuring low density and high porosity are regarded as ideal physical adsorption materials for sewage treatment. In this work, high internal phase Pickering emulsions were designed and prepared. The polysaccharide complex originating from sodium octenylsuccinate starch and chitosan serves as the stabilizer, water and hexane act as the external and internal phase, respectively. Acrylic acid was introduced into the external phase to initiate UV polymerization. The high internal phase Pickering emulsions as templates were removed through freeze-drying to produce aerogel materials with macroporous structures, the size of the pores: 43.54 ± 12.75 μm. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images show that the pore size of aerogel materials was similar to that of emulsion droplets, verifying the template role of emulsion in the polymerization process. In addition, aerogels possess good mechanical properties and can withstand a pressure of megapascal, exhibiting favorable stability when floating in water for a long time (6 months). Methyl violet, malachite green, methylene blue, and acridine orange in aqueous solution were selected as model dyes to explore the removal process and the mechanism. The adsorption was conformed to be the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Freundlich adsorption isotherm, namely, the dye adsorption of the aerogels was the multilayer adsorption on the uneven surface, and the mechanism of the adsorption was related to the π-π interaction.

Abstract Wet-chemical synthesis refers to the bottom-up chemical synthesis in solution, which is among the most popular synthetic approaches towards functional two-dimensional (2D) materials. It offers several advantages, including cost-effectiveness, high yields,, precious control over the production process. As an emerging family of 2D materials, elemental 2D materials (Xenes) have shown great potential in various applications such as electronics, catalysts, biochemistry,, sensing technologies due to their exceptional/exotic properties such as large surface area, tunable band gap,, high carrier mobility. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in wet-chemical synthesis of Xenes including tellurene, bismuthene, antimonene, phosphorene,, arsenene. The current solvent compositions, process parameters utilized in wet-chemical synthesis, their effects on the thickness, stability of the resulting Xenes are also presented. Key factors considered involves ligands, precursors, surfactants, reaction time, temperature. Finally, we highlight recent advances, existing challenges in the current application of wet-chemical synthesis for Xenes production, provide perspectives on future improvement.

Abstract The often-overlooked importance of foliar absorption on the plant uptake of organic pollutants was investigated by an exposure chamber test. Rice seedlings were exposed to organophosphate esters (OPEs) through 8 scenarios arranged from 3 major uptake pathways: root uptake via solution, foliar uptake via gas, and foliar uptake via particles, to identify the contributions of these 3 uptake pathways and their influences on the translocation and metabolism of OPEs in rice. The concentration of OPEs in rice tissues showed an "additive effect" with the increase of exposure pathways. OPEs in rice shoots mainly originated from foliar uptake through particle (29.6 %-63.5 %) and gaseous (28.5 %-49.4 %) absorptions rather than root uptake (7.86 %-24.2 %) under the exposure condition. In comparison with stomal absorption, wax layer penetration was the main pathway for most OPEs to enter into leaves, especially for those compounds with high octanol-air partition coefficients. Although the subcellular distributions of OPEs in the rice tissues of the foliar exposure were slightly different from those of the root exposure, hydrophobic OPEs were mainly stored in the cell wall with hydrophilic OPEs mainly in the cytosol. The translocation of OPEs from the exposed tissue to the unexposed tissue were significantly negatively correlated with their octanol-water partition coefficients, but their basipetal translocation were limited. The result suggested that the translocation of OPEs within rice is prioritized over their degradation. This study deepens our understanding of the processes behind OPE uptake by rice and highlights the importance of foliar uptake, especially for those via particle absorption.

Abstract Dermatomyositis (DM) is an autoimmune disease often complicated with malignant tumors. More than 50% of DM patients have myositis specific autoantibodies in their bodies. DM specific autoantibodies [including anti-migration inhibitory factor (Mi)-2 antibody, anti-nuclear matrix protein (NXP)-2 antibody, anti-transcription intermediary factor (TIF) 1-γ antibody, and anti-small ubiquitin like modifier activating enzyme (SAE) antibody] play important roles in the pathogenesis of malignancy associated DM. Revealing the role of DM specific autoantibodies in the development of malignant tumors in DM patients can provide important evidence for accurately assessing the risk of developing malignant tumors in DM patients, and also provide new ideas for clinical diagnosis of DM and precise treatment.

Abstract Background: Renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (RIRI) is an inevitable complication in the process of kidney transplantation and lacks specific therapy. The study aims to determine the underlying mechanisms of RIRI to uncover a promising target for efficient renoprotection.
Method: Four bulk RNA-seq datasets including 495 renal samples of pre- and post-reperfusion were collected from the GEO database. The machine learning algorithms were utilized to ascertain pivotal endoplasmic reticulum stress genes. Then, we incorporated correlation analysis and determined the interaction pathways of these key genes. Considering the heterogeneous nature of bulk-RNA analysis, the single-cell RNA-seq analysis was performed to investigate the mechanisms of key genes at the single-cell level. Besides, 4-PBA was applied to inhibit endoplasmic reticulum stress and hence validate the pathological role of these key genes in RIRI. Finally, three clinical datasets with transcriptomic profiles were used to assess the prognostic role of these key genes in renal allograft outcomes after RIRI.
Results: In the bulk-RNA analysis, endoplasmic reticulum stress was identified as the top enriched pathway and three endoplasmic reticulum stress-related genes (PPP1R15A, JUN, and ATF3) were ranked as top performers in both LASSO and Boruta analyses. The three genes were found to significantly interact with kidney injury-related pathways, including apoptosis, inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and pyroptosis. For oxidative stress, these genes were more strongly related to oxidative markers compared with antioxidant markers. In single-cell transcriptome, the three genes were primarily upregulated in endothelium, distal convoluted tubule cells, and collecting duct principal cells among 12 cell types of renal tissues in RIRI. Furthermore, distal convoluted tubule cells and collecting duct principal cells exhibited pro-inflammatory status and the highest pyroptosis levels, suggesting their potential as main effectors of three key genes for mediating RIRI-associated injuries. Importantly, inhibition of these key genes using 4-phenyl butyric acid alleviated functional and histological damage in a mouse RIRI model. Finally, the three genes demonstrated highly prognostic value in predicting graft survival outcomes.
Conclusion: The study identified three key endoplasmic reticulum stress-related genes and demonstrated their prognostic value for graft survival, providing references for individualized clinical prevention and treatment of postoperative complications after renal transplantation.
