Methodology: cross-sectional study conducted on patients admitted to the intensive care unit COVID-19 survey among hospitalized patients from November 2020 to March 2021.
Setting: large hospital, reference for caring for patients with COVID-19 in Bahia (Brazil).
Patients: a convenience sample of 22 patients admitted to the COVID ICU signed the consent form agreeing to participate in the study. Three patients were excluded for having decided to participate without signing the form.
Results: of the 22 patients listed, 45 % (10) had blood infection or mechanical ventilation-associated pneumonia by
Conclusions: hospitals that receive patients with COVID-19 may be vulnerable to outbreaks of multi-drug resistant organisms, such as

Abstract Objectives: We compared the US norm-based two-component vs. Japanese norm-based three-component summary scores of the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-36 (SF-36) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
Methods: One hundred fourteen Japanese SLE patients were studied. SF-36 physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS) scores were computed by the US norm-based two-component (US2) and Japanese norm-based three-component (JP3) models, respectively, and compared. Their association with demographics and disease characteristics was also analysed.
Results: The US2-PCS scores were significantly higher than the JP3-PCS scores (p < .001); however, the US2-MCS and JP3-MCS scores were not significantly different (p = .16). Bland-Altman analyses demonstrated that the US2-PCS scores were generally higher than the JP3-PCS scores, and their difference was larger in the subjects with lower PCS scores. However, the multiple linear regression analyses for the PCS and MCS scores computed by the different models demonstrated mostly equivalent standardized regression coefficients with the variables.
Conclusions: Although the agreement between the US norm-based two-component and Japanese norm-based three-component models of the SF-36 was insufficient, their scores demonstrated similar associations with other variables. The application of the US original version could be acceptable in certain studies depending on the research question.

Abstract Eosinophilic myositis is characterised by peripheral blood eosinophilia and eosinophilic infiltration in muscles, and is comprised three subtypes: focal eosinophilic myositis (FEM), eosinophilic polymyositis, and eosinophilic perimyositis. Muscle involvement of FEM is usually limited to the lower legs, and pulmonary complications have not been reported. We report a rare case of FEM in the left adductor pollicis complicated by lung lesions. A 37-year-old woman developed swelling of the first web space in the left hand. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the left hand demonstrated increased signal on fat-suppressed T2-weighted imaging in the left adductor pollicis. A muscle biopsy specimen demonstrated perimysial and endomysial infiltration of mononuclear cells and eosinophils, and necrosis and regeneration of muscle fibres. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed upper-lobe-dominant ground-glass opacities (GGO). Both focal myositis and pulmonary lesions improved without treatment. This case suggests that FEM could involve adductor pollicis and have pulmonary lesions. In this case, myositis and GGO resolved spontaneously. Some FEM cases treated with glucocorticoids were reported in the past. Further studies are required to determine whether patients with FEM require therapeutic intervention.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to develop a prototype nursing observation support system using integrated nursing practice data with nursing records, prescription data, and nurse call logs. These data show that the present observation system has improved. The system has the potential to provide improved observations of chest symptoms and pain management.

Abstract This study estimated end compared the potential toxic effects of the water-soluble fractions (WSF) of biodiesel (B100), diesel and the commercial biodiesel (B5) on Oreochromis niloticus. After a 24 h-exposition to WSF-0% (control) and WSF-serial concentrations of 4.6%, 10%, 22%, 46% and 100%, samples of gill and liver of the exposed fishes were fixed in Bouin's solution, processed, stained using hematoxylin/eosin and analyzed by light-microscopy. WSF-hydrocarbons and methanol contents, analyzed by gas chromatography, were checked against the occurrence of abnormal histopathological alterations. These were not found in the control and WSF-4.6% exposed fishes, while exposures to or above 10%-WSF resulted in histopathological alterations whose severity increased in a dose-dependent manner, being higher in fishes exposed to WSF-diesel, or WSF-B5 when compared to biodiesel. These results, which were corroborated by the chemical analyses, highlighted the histological technique as an appropriate diagnostic tool that can be used for the preservation of water bodies' quality.

Abstract We report two patients with acute leukemias who expressed two types of bcr/ αbl mRNA. The first case was an 8-year-old boy with acute mixed leukemia in whom the Ph1 chromosome and p210/p190 types of bcr/αbl mRNAs were detected at diagnosis. The second case was a 39-year-old male with acute non-lymphocytic leukemia transformed from myelodysplastic syndrome (refractory anemia with excess of blasts). In the latter case, the p210-type mRNA appeared after leukemic transformation, and the p190-type transcript was detected only during the late stage when the Ph1 chromosome was first observed. The leukemias in these two patients were aggressive in their clinical courses. We conclude that the dual expression of p210 and p190 types of bcr/ αbl is a factor indicating a poor prognosis, and that, in some patients, p190-type bcr/αbl may contribute to disease progression.
