Abstract Scene classification in remote sensing is a pivotal research area, traditionally relying on visual information from aerial images for labeling. The introduction of ground environment audio as a novel geospatial data source adds valuable information for scene classification. However, bridging the structural gap between aerial images and ground environment audio is challenging, rendering popular two-branch networks ineffective for direct data fusion. To address this issue, the study in this research presents the Two-stage Fusion-based Audiovisual Classification Network (TFAVCNet). TFAVCNet leverages both audio and visual modules to extract deep semantic features from ground environmental audio and remote sensing images, respectively. The audiovisual fusion module combines and fuses information from both modalities at the feature and decision levels, facilitating joint training and yielding a more-robust solution. The proposed method outperforms existing approaches, as demonstrated by the experimental results on the ADVANCE dataset for remote sensing audiovisual scene classification, offering an innovative approach to enhanced scene classification.

Abstract Abstract This study proposes a self‐supervised method to reconstruct 3D limbic structures from 2D landmarks extracted from a single view. The loss of self‐consistency can be reduced by performing a random orthogonal projection of the reconstructed 3D structure. Thus, the training process can be self‐supervised by using geometric self‐consistency in the reconstruction–projection–reconstruction process. The self‐supervised network mainly consists of graph convolution and Transformer encoders. This network is called the SS‐Graphformer. By adding a discriminator, the SS‐Graphformer is used as a generator to form a Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Network architecture with a Gradient Penalty to improve the accuracy of the reconstruction. It is experimentally demonstrated that the addition of the 2D structure discriminator can significantly improve the accuracy of the reconstruction.

Abstract Most nonrigid motions use shape-based methods to solve the problem; however, the use of discrete cosine transform trajectory-based methods to solve the nonrigid motion problem is also very prominent. The signal undergoes discrete transformation due to the transform characteristics of the discrete cosine transform. The correlation of the data is well extracted such that a better compression of data is achieved. However, it is important to select the number and sequence of discrete cosine transform trajectory basis appropriately. The error of reconstruction and operational costs will increase for a high value of K (number of trajectory basis). On the other hand, a lower value of K would lead to the exclusion of information components. This will lead to poor accuracy as the structure of the object cannot be fully represented. When the number of trajectory basis is determined, the combination form has a considerable influence on the reconstruction algorithm. This article selects an appropriate number and combination of trajectory basis by analyzing the spectrum of re-projection errors and realizes the automatic selection of trajectory basis. Then, combining with the probability framework of normal distribution of a low-order model matrix, the energy information of the high-frequency part is retained, which not only helps maintain accuracy but also improves reconstruction efficiency. The proposed method can be used to reconstruct the three-dimensional structure of sparse data under more precise prior conditions and lower computational costs.

Abstract Abstract Engineers solving engineering design problems can be regarded as a gradual optimisation process that involves strategising. The process can be modelled as a reinforcement learning (RL) framework. This article presents an RL model with episodic controllers to solve engineering problems. Episodic controllers provide a mechanism for using the short‐term and long‐term memories to improve the efficiency of searching for engineering problem solutions. This work demonstrates that the two kinds of models of memories can be incorporated into the existing RL framework. Finally, an optimised design problem of a crane girder is illustrated by RL with episodic controllers. The work presented in this study leverages the RL model that has been shown to mimic human problem solving in engineering optimised design problems.

Abstract In the field of bioinformatics, understanding protein secondary structure is very important for exploring diseases and finding new treatments. Considering that the physical experiment-based protein secondary structure prediction methods are time-consuming and expensive, some pattern recognition and machine learning methods are proposed. However, most of the methods achieve quite similar performance, which seems to reach a model capacity bottleneck. As both model design and learning process can affect the model learning capacity, we pay attention to the latter part. To this end, a framework called Multistage Combination Classifier Augmented Model (MCCM) is proposed to solve the protein secondary structure prediction task. Specifically, first, a feature extraction module is introduced to extract features with different levels of learning difficulties. Second, multistage combination classifiers are proposed to learn decision boundaries for easy and hard samples, respectively, with the latter penalizing the loss value of the hard samples and finally improving the prediction performance of hard samples. Third, based on the Dirichlet distribution and information entropy measurement, a sample difficulty discrimination module is designed to assign samples with different learning difficulty levels to the aforementioned classifiers. The experimental results on the publicly available benchmark CB513 dataset show that our method outperforms most state-of-the-art models.

Abstract Introduction: This study was performed to examine whether there is a link between the application of three types of robot-guided stereotactic biopsy techniques and the diagnostic rate of intracranial lesion biopsy.
Methods: The study involved 407 patients who underwent robot-guided stereotactic intracranial lesion biopsy at Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University from January 2019 to December 2021. Age, sex, lesion characteristics, lesion distribution, surgical method, and target path depth were assessed for their impact on the biopsy diagnostic rate.
Results: The patients' mean age was 42.1 years (range, 6 months-82 years). All patients underwent robot-assisted stereotactic brain biopsy using one of three different systems: a ROSA robotic system (
Conclusion: The presence of enhancing lesions, lesion location, and lesion volume significantly affected the diagnostic rate of brain biopsy. Age, sex, lesion depth, and biopsy modality did not significantly affect the diagnostic rate. All three procedures had high safety and effectiveness.

Abstract The bacterial colonization and poor osseointegration of Ti implants significantly compromise their applications in load-bearing bone repair and replacement. To endorse the Ti with both excellent bioactivity and antibacterial ability, we developed a microarc oxidation coating that was modified uniformly by hydroxyapatite (HA) nanodots arrays and loaded regionally with chitosan hydrogel containing ciprofloxacin. The bonding between the HA nanodots covered coating and the chitosan hydrogel is further enhanced via silanization and chemical grafting of glutaraldehyde. Benefiting from the regionally loaded structure of the chitosan hydrogel, the chitosan hydrogel unloaded area can promote the cell adhesion and proliferation with excellent bioactivity, though relatively low OD value of cck8 has been observed at the beginning of the cell culturing. Whereas, the OD value of cck8 rises with the prolongation of the cell culturing time due to the degradation of the regionally loaded chitosan hydrogel. With the help of the laden ciprofloxacin in chitosan hydrogels, the sample effectively sterilizes the bacterial with a bacteriostatic ring. Therefore, regional loading of chitosan hydrogel containing ciprofloxacin on the modified microarc oxidation coating is a good approach to endorse Ti with both excellent bioactivity and antibacterial ability.

Abstract China has adopted a long-term campaign against poverty. In recent decades, there is an increasing understanding that ecological poverty alleviation can meet the dual goals of environmental protection and rural poverty reduction. China is pivoting towards forestry-based poverty reduction in the severely poverty-stricken areas. However, several key factors remain elusive, including the extent to which the poor people benefit from forestry programs, whether they are satisfied with the policies and whether the policies are effective for poverty alleviation. Based on data collected through a questionnaire survey of 79 households in the prefectures of Nujiang and Aba, southwestern China, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach was used to examine the effectiveness of the forestry-based poverty alleviation policy. The results showed that four poverty alleviation pathways, including industry, employment, micro-finance and pairing assistance in villages, had obviously increased the incomes of the filing poor households and solved the problem of “Two Worries-free and Three Guarantees”. The poor were satisfied with the forestry-based ecological poverty alleviation policies and these policies had good effects in fighting against poverty. However, there are still some shortcomings, such as a lack of active participation, imperfect targeted identification, lack of funds and limited sources of funds during the policy implementation. Our results highlight the importance of the forestry industry and the public welfare position in the alleviation of poverty in the poverty-stricken areas. Synergies between ecological protection and poverty reduction are possible through sound forestry-based policies. This article recommends five policies to simultaneously realize the potential of poverty alleviation and environment protection through forestry development.
