Abstract Since market uncertainty, or volatility, serves as a crucial gauge for assessing the traits of market fluctuations, the link between stock market volume and price continues to be a focal point of interest in finance. This study examines the dynamic, nonlinear correlations between Chinese stock volatility, trading volume, and return using a hybrid approach that combines the Markov switching regime with the vector autoregressive model (MS-VAR). The empirical findings are as follows. (1) The Chinese stock market can be divided into three regional systems: steady downward, steady upward, and high volatility. The three states have similar frequencies of occurrence, and their corresponding stable probabilities are not high, indicating that the Chinese stock market is unstable. (2) Asymmetric dynamic relationships exist between market volatility, investment return, and trading volume. For different regimes, while the effect of trading volume on volatility and return appears to be insignificant, the impacts of volatility and return on trading volume are considerably strong. (3) A regime-dependent, contemporaneous correlation between volatility and return is observed, which also reflects the behavior of the Chinese stock market “chasing up and down”. However, a positive contemporaneous correlation always exists between volatility and trading volumes in different regimes, indicating that uncertainty in the Chinese stock market is closely related to information inflow.

Abstract With the increase in the number of waste power batteries and the occurrence of related environmental problems, battery recycling is receiving extensive attention. Driven by economic benefits, many companies have begun to deploy the waste battery processing market and government subsidies also play an essential role in battery recycling. Considering the vehicle company outsources processing tasks or invests in research and development (R&D), this paper studies the optimal decision-making problem of the supply chain under government subsidy to the battery manufacturer or the battery manufacturer. The research finds that: (1) For the government, when the vehicle company outsources processing tasks, compared with subsidizing the vehicle company, the total recycling volume when subsidizing the battery manufacturer is higher. When the vehicle company invests in R&D, the total recycling volume under different government subsidy strategies is equal. (2) The vehicle company’s decision is only related to its processing costs; when the unit processing cost is low, the vehicle company’s profit under the strategy of investing in R&D is higher. However, when the unit processing cost is high, the profit of outsourcing processing tasks is higher. (3) With increase in unit subsidy and decrease in unit processing cost, the total recycling volume will increase. These findings can provide decision-making help for the government in formulating subsidy policies and the vehicle company in determining processing strategies in the future.

Abstract Water, energy, and food are important factors affecting people’s lives and socio-economic development, and their production and consumption processes are closely related, so it is necessary to do research on input–output efficiency as a whole. The research is conducive to promoting the effective utilization and rational allocation of relevant resources in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, thereby promoting sustainable development. This study calculates the input–output efficiency of the water–energy–food (WEF) nexus of 11 provincial administrative regions in the Yangtze River Economic Belt utilizing the DEA-BCC model. Then, new indicators called area expansion degree and the subsystem’s influence degree are proposed with the aid of the standard deviation ellipse model to analyze the characteristics and trends of spatial–temporal distribution of input–output efficiency. The standard deviation ellipse model starts from the basic spatial elements, including point, line, and surface, and is used to study the spatial distribution and trend change of efficiency according to the center of gravity and area. The shift of the center of gravity shows the direction of significant improvement in the effect of resource allocation, and the change of area shows the differences in the speed of efficiency improvement between regions and the future development trend. The results mainly indicate that the resource allocation in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is more reasonable than that in the upper reaches, and the efficiency distribution is obviously concentrated in the northeast direction. It is suggested that the provincial administrative regions in the upper reaches should optimize the industrial structure, the regions in the middle and lower reaches should improve the resource structure, and the flow of talents and technology of regions should be promoted.

Abstract Compared to other industries, fashion apparel retail faces many challenges in predicting future demand for its products with a high degree of precision. Fashion products’ short life cycle, insufficient historical information, highly uncertain market demand, and periodic seasonal trends necessitate the use of models that can contribute to the efficient forecasting of products’ sales and demand. Many researchers have tried to address this problem using conventional forecasting models that predict future demands using historical sales information. While these models predict product demand with fair to moderate accuracy based on previously sold stock, they cannot fully be used for predicting future demands due to the transient behaviour of the fashion industry. This paper proposes an intelligent forecasting system that combines image feature attributes of clothes along with its sales data to predict future demands. The data used for this empirical study is from a European fashion retailer, and it mainly contains sales information on apparel items and their images. The proposed forecast model is built using machine learning and deep learning techniques, which extract essential features of the product images. The model predicts weekly sales of new fashion apparel by finding its best match in the clusters of products that we created using machine learning clustering based on products’ sales profiles and image similarity. The results demonstrated that the performance of our proposed forecast model on the tested or test items is promising, and this model could be effectively used to solve forecasting problems.

Abstract In order to solve the security problem of privacy information exposed by plaintext access strategy in cloud computing environment, this paper proposes a new attribute encryption anonymity algorithm which can be hidden and updated. The algorithm proposed in this paper hides the access policy attribute information through a randomized technology, which can support full hiding of the policy, and the prevention and control are more flexible. The experimental results show that, compared with the previous decryption algorithms, under the premise of the same attributes, the encryption time decreases in a few seconds. When the number of attributes is 1, the encryption time decreases by 10 s, and when the number of attributes is 10, the encryption time decreases by about 100 s, and the efficiency is greatly improved.

Abstract This paper proposes a refrigerant cooling method using an inner tube in a storage tank to improve the cooling performance and thermal uniformity during the storing of edible oil. With a prototype of an oil tank in Central Grain Reserve of Zhenjiang, the experimental oil tank was built in a scale of 50:1. Both natural and manual cooling experiments were carried out for the experimental tank. The manual cooling process involved two supplying modes for the refrigerant tube (top and bottom) and four different refrigerant temperatures (10 ℃, 12 ℃, 14 ℃, 16 ℃). The experimental results show that, compared with natural cooling, manual cooling can effectively reduce the temperature difference and thermal stratification between upper and lower layers. The temperature difference is 6.79 ℃, 1.93 ℃, and 3.67 ℃ for the natural cooling, manual top supplying, and manual bottom supplying mode, respectively. Furthermore, for the two manual modes, the cooling efficiency of bottom supplying is 21.4% higher than that of the top supplying, and the average oil temperature drops by 0.8-1 ℃. Based on experimental results, different working conditions (20, 40, and 60 ml/s) were simulated to determine the optimal flow rate for bottom supplying mode. The simulation results indicate that the low flow rate (20 ml/s) corresponds to the best thermal uniformity, and the maximum temperature has no obvious change under different flow rate conditions. Therefore, it is not necessary to increase the flow rate to improve cooling efficiency considering the rising energy consumption.

Abstract Aortic aneurysm (AA) and dissection (AD) are aortic diseases caused primarily by medial layer degeneration and perivascular inflammation. They are lethal when the rupture happens. Vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) play critical roles in the pathogenesis of medial degeneration, characterized by SMC loss and elastin fiber degradation. Many molecular pathways, including cyclic nucleotide signaling, have been reported in regulating vascular SMC functions, matrix remodeling, and vascular structure integrity. Intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) are second messengers that mediate intracellular signaling transduction through activating effectors, such as protein kinase A (PKA) and PKG, respectively. cAMP and cGMP are synthesized by adenylyl cyclase (AC) and guanylyl cyclase (GC), respectively, and degraded by cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDEs). In this review, we will discuss the roles and mechanisms of cAMP/cGMP signaling and PDEs in AA/AD formation and progression and the potential of PDE inhibitors in AA/AD, whether they are beneficial or detrimental. We also performed database analysis and summarized the results showing PDEs with significant expression changes under AA/AD, which should provide rationales for future research on PDEs in AA/AD.
