Abstract Traditionally, women had the day-to-day responsibility for eldercare. However, social changes have created alternatives for men to take on what is generally considered a “female duty.” Particularly, as the prevalence of dementia has increased in China, men are increasingly becoming the primary caregivers for their kin. Yet, we have limited understanding of male caregiving. Based on twenty months’ ethnographic study of 60 men taking care of a relative with dementia, this paper examines motivations, practices, struggles and strategies of male caregivers. While acknowledging the gendered nature of caregiving, I argue that eldercare goes beyond solely social construction of gender roles and power asymmetries between males and females. Men—both husbands and sons—who engage in caregiving are motivated by love, affection, moral obligation, reciprocity based on past assistance, and property inheritance. Male caregivers’ care practices and their responses toward challenges vary from case to case, yet, these differences have less association with gender identity but more with cohort variations. The expanding home roles of male caregivers call attention to the social transformation of gendered care practices in China and beyond.

Abstract At present, the integration of information technology is an inevitable trend under the background of economic globalization. Big data has a great impact on the import and export of enterprises. The impact on the import and export of enterprises is not only the support of information, but also the support of technology. The article will effectively combine the economic globalization and big data to conduct in-depth research and analysis[1].

Abstract This paper studies the endogenous relationship between innovation investment and enterprise performance through the three-stage least square method, taking the companies listed on the Main board of A-shares in Shanghai and Shenzhen stock Exchanges from 2014 to 2018 as research samples, and explores whether the improvement of management ability can effectively promote the transformation of enterprise innovation investment into enterprise performance from the perspective of innovation. The research results show that there is a two-way influence between innovation input and enterprise performance. The innovation input can significantly promote the growth of enterprise performance, but its promotion effect is relatively lagged. The growth of performance may weaken the enterprise's innovation motivation and reduce the future innovation input. Management competence has a significant positive moderating effect on the relationship between innovation input and performance. This paper provides an important reference for balancing innovation and enterprise performance and improving the transformation efficiency of enterprise innovation investment to increase enterprise value.

Abstract Normally, the cost stickiness in enterprises further reduces the efficiency of asset allocation and the accuracy of earnings decision, thus aggravating the risk taking. This paper takes Chinese A-share listed companies from 2009 to 2019 as samples to empirically test the impact of cost stickiness on enterprise risk and the moderating effect of long-term incentive mechanism on this impact. The results show that cost stickiness increases corporate risk significantly. Management shareholding further aggravates the impact of cost stickiness on corporate risk. After further analysis, it is found that cost stickiness significantly increases corporate investment risk, meanwhile, cost anti-stickiness also significantly increases corporate risk, and management shareholding also aggravates the impact of cost anti-stickiness. This study further expands the research on the economic consequences of cost stickiness, also provides new ideas for enterprises to control the level of management shareholding to further restrain the degree of cost stickiness.

Abstract The increasing number of dementia sufferers in China has transformed dementia care from a private issue to a public concern. Nationwide dementia-friendly campaigns have intensified debates about what constitutes “good” care. In response to these campaigns, the Shanghai government proposes a systematic care model, which stresses the need for dementia-care units and professionalization. Non-state actors, however, focus on the relational care model, which integrates western humanitarian ethics with Confucian values. This article employs cultural and structural frameworks to examine why and how a specific form of “good” care is constructed in China. The debates about the establishment of dementia-care units and the professionalization of eldercare enable us to understand how politics shape certain forms of care.

Abstract With the wide application of the "Tender, Auction, and Listing" system for land in China, it is of paramount importance to establish a sound land auction mechanism so as to avoid unreasonable land allocation. However, existing studies only focus on developers who are merely concerned about land combinations and offline auctions with low efficiency and high land unsold rate. To further improve land auction mechanism, we modeled the problem of land allocation as an online combinatorial auction. On this basis, we defined a land correction coefficient and designed an optimal online combinatorial auction mechanism that enabled developers to submit multiple combinations of land. Our designed mechanism proved to satisfy both incentive compatibility (IC) and individual rationality (IR), which can prevent developers from lying in the auction while winning higher revenue, reducing land unsold rate, increasing developer turnover rate and promoting the stability of land resource allocation rate. Therefore, online combinatorial auction mechanism, both applicable and efficient, is a practical solution for improving land auctions in China.

Abstract The construction of tourist attractions has become an important manifestation of local performance and the image of tourist destinations, as well as an important means for local governments to promote economic development. However, the causal relationship between tourist attractions and economic growth remains unclear. The article’s main purpose is to explore the causal effect of tourist attractions on economic growth. To do so, a difference-in-differences model is employed based on China’s city-level panel data from 2001 to 2019 involving 313 cities and 5947 observations. The results demonstrate that tourist attractions have a significant positive causal effect on China’s economic growth. Such causality is significant only in the east and central regions. Highway density, urban disposable income per capita, and the share of the tertiary industry have significant moderating effects. The validity of the causal relationship is confirmed using various rigorous robustness tests.

Abstract The primary purpose of this paper is to advocate the use of multidimensional scaling (MDS) preference plot to study relationships among variables and individual differences in these variables. MDS preference plot is not a new visual technique; nevertheless, its application to visualize individual differences in variables for high-dimensional data is rare, particularly in education and social sciences. We illustrated its application using a real example in an educational setting. The results indicate that the MDS preference plot is a viable visualization technique for data mining and analytics. Traditional statistical methods, such as the analysis of variance, can be used to further support the visual analysis results.
