Abstract As the Internet of Things (IoT) applications have been introduced into daily life, privacy issues have become significant concerns to users, network service providers, device producers, and related roles. This study provides a high-level introduction of current privacy-preserving solutions in IoT systems within the three phases of data collection, transmission, and storage. In these three phases, the following aspects were examined: (1). security protocols at the physical and data link layers; (2). network solutions; and (3). data storage and sharing approaches. Real-world implementations often involve more than one phase, and numerous technologies are combined to ensure privacy. Thus, an understanding of all phases and their technologies can be helpful for IoT research, design, development, and operation.

Abstract Rationale: Gastric adenocarcinoma of the fundic gland is a rare, well-differentiated variant of gastric adenocarcinoma, which has been proposed as a novel disease entity. As a result of mismatch repair deficiency, microsatellite instability has been frequently observed in various human cancers and widely performed in the area of cancer pathogenesis. Herein, we report a case of gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland presented with microsatellite instability phenotype.
Patient concerns: A 46-year-old man was referred to our hospital for abdominal distension and pain.
Diagnosis: The patient contained 3 tumor lesions with different degrees of histologic differentiation and microsatellite instability. The lesions were located in the upper third of the stomach. The tumor size was 55 mm. Macroscopically, tumor showed an ulcerative type. In terms of depth of invasion, tumor lesion invaded into subserosa with lymphatic invasion. In addition, this patient did not present GNAS mutation but harbored AXIN2 mutation. By immunohistochemistry, the expression level of β-catenin protein in the nucleus of the carcinoma cells was obviously higher than that in normal nucleus. Compared with microsatellite instability-low lesion, PD-1, PD-L1, and CD8 were positive in the microsatellite instability-high lesions.
Interventions: The patient underwent surgical resection and postoperative chemotherapy.
Outcomes: The patient experienced distant metastasis and died from severe complications after 6 months of treatment.
Lessons: These results suggested that the mutation of Wnt component genes associated with Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway activation may play a role in promoting the occurrence of gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland. This is the first report of a gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland with microsatellite instability. These findings modify our understanding of the pathophysiology of gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland.

Abstract Dysfunction in the mesocortical pathway, connecting the ventral tegmental area (VTA) to the prefrontal cortex, has been implicated in chronic pain. While extensive research has focused on the role of dopamine, the contribution of glutamatergic signaling in pain modulation remains unknown. Using in vivo calcium imaging, we observe diminished VTA glutamatergic activity targeting the prelimbic cortex (PL) in a mouse model of neuropathic pain. Optogenetic activation of VTA glutamatergic terminals in the PL alleviates neuropathic pain, whereas inhibiting these terminals in naïve mice induces pain-like responses. Importantly, this pain-modulating effect is independent of dopamine co-release, as demonstrated by CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene deletion. Furthermore, we show that VTA neurons primarily project to excitatory neurons in the PL, and their activation restores PL outputs to the anterior cingulate cortex, a key region involved in pain processing. These findings reveal a distinct mesocortical glutamatergic pathway that critically modulates neuropathic pain independent of dopamine signaling.

Abstract This article deals with the distributed state estimation problem for linear systems in networks with cooperative interactions and antagonistic interactions, where the cooperative interactions and the antagonistic interactions are characterized by the positive weights and the negative weights, respectively. Due to the coexistence of the cooperative interactions and the antagonistic interactions, the existing methods based on the non-negatively weighted graph become not applicable. First, a partition method of the nodes and a decomposition form of the system matrices are introduced. Then a new form of distributed observers is proposed in the network with cooperative interactions and antagonistic interactions. Necessary and sufficient conditions, which guarantee the existence of proposed distributed observers, are presented. In particular, when the communication network is cooperative, the proposed method is suitable for two cases, that is, the nodes in each independent strongly connected component are jointly detectable, or each node is jointly detectable with its neighbors. Finally, three examples are simulated to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract This article is concerned with the problem of event-based remote state estimation for nonlinear/non-Gaussian systems on a wireless network with limited bandwidth. To reduce unnecessary data transmissions, a novel event-triggering mechanism is developed by using the least-square technique. Based on this, an event-triggered box particle filtering scheme is designed to realize the minimum mean-squared error estimation at the remote estimator end, in which the posterior probability density functions are calculated separately according to the information of the event-triggered indicator to avoid the problem of excessive estimation error. Different from the existing approaches, the proposed algorithm does not depend on any Gaussian assumptions and reduces the computational complexity under the premise of ensuring the estimation performance. Finally, two simulation examples are performed to demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract In this article, we are concerned with distributed algorithm designs for resource allocation problems via event-triggered communication. The target is to search an optimal resource allocation scheme such that the summation of objective functions is minimized. Due to communication efficiency and privacy concerns, distributed algorithms with event-triggered communications are proposed in this article. The communication is only permitted or triggered if variation of gradient of the local objective function exceeds a threshold. By constructing a novel technical lemma and a universal scalar function, the convergence and linear convergence rates are established under some mild assumptions. Extensive numerical experiments on the IEEE 118-bus power system demonstrate that: Compared to the periodic algorithms, such as ADMM and Mirror-P-EXTRA, the proposed algorithms not only remarkably reduce the communication times but also have competitive convergence speed. The latter is striking that it implies there exist useless communications in the periodic algorithms that are censored by the proposed event-triggered strategy.
