Abstract This book is mainly focused on the climate change in Southeast Asia and its adjacent regions. It summarizes results from recent scientific research based on observational analysis, data diagnosis, theoretical analysis, and model simulations. The book covers the following research areas: (1) characteristics and mechanisms of spring–summer atmospheric circulation systems, (2) ocean-atmosphere-land interaction and climate variability, (3) climate effect of the Tibetan Plateau, (4) attribution of regional climate change and feedback/impact of regional climate on the global climate, and (5) seasonal-to-subseasonal climate prediction. It is anticipated that the book provides useful information for enhancing our understanding of the change in climate over Southeast Asia and the adjacent regions.

Abstract Enthusiasm for the metaverse is intensifying in academia and industries. The metaverse is a complex concept, combining many technologies to create many different types of user experiences (UX), depending on the intended use. The cultural metaverse was first introduced in this study. This study is an initial attempt to fill the gaps in the practical research and storytelling research in the metaverse. Augmented reality (AR) technology is an applicative tool in cultural experience, which displays computer - generated virtual information on a real-world scene. AR displays digital information realistically, making it appear to be part of the actual environment, deepening or expanding the user's understanding of "reality". This study constructed a cultural metaverse using the innovative AR storytelling. The cultural metaverse is a new cultural ecology in which advanced information technologies are deeply integrated with cultural spaces and exhibits. It combines digital technologies and cultural industries, mixing virtual space and physical space to facilitate the UX in cultural experiences. In this study, the existing AR e-book and the innovative AR version were compared while measuring multiple aspects of UX, including presence, flow, enjoyment, education, and engagement. By analyzing questionnaire data from two groups with a total of 368 participants, the results indicated that the innovative AR storytelling produced a better UX across all variables compared to the AR e-book application. Overall, innovative AR storytelling allows visitors to transition between real and virtual spaces, enriches their interactive experience, and improves user engagement with the metaverse exhibition of cultural experience. Therefore, practitioners can construct a primary cultural metaverse through innovative AR storytelling.

Abstract With the development of science and technology and the continuous changes of social environment, the development prospect of traditional cinema is worrying. This work aims to improve the publicity effect of movie posters and optimize the marketing efficiency of movie posters and promote the development of film and television industry. First, the design concept of high grossing movie posters is discussed. Then, the concept of movie poster analysis based on Deep Learning (DL) technology is analyzed under Big Data Technology. Finally, a movie poster analysis model is designed based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) technology under DL and is evaluated. The results demonstrate that the learning curve of the CNN model reported here is the best in the evaluation of model performance in movie poster analysis. Besides, the learning rate of the model is basically stable when the number of iterations is about 500. The final loss value is around 0.5. Meanwhile, the accuracy rate of the model is also stable at the number of iterations of about 500, and the accuracy rate of the model is around 0.9. In addition, the recognition accuracy of the model designed here in movie poster classification recognition is generally between 60% and 85% in performing theme, style, composition, color scheme, set, and product recognition of movie posters. Moreover, the evaluation of the model in the movie poster style composition suggests that the style composition of movie poster production dramatically varies in different films, in which movie posters focus most on movie product, style, and theme. Compared with other models, the performance of this model is more outstanding in all aspects, which shows that this work has achieved a great technical breakthrough. This work provides a reference for the optimization of the design method of movie posters and contributes to the development of the movie industry.

Abstract This work presents a steady-state model of a generic liquid air power plant integrated with parabolic trough solar collectors, explores the plant design space, and maximizes its energy and exergy performance. The model is verified against the round trip efficiency of various plant configurations reported in the literature, and the design space exploration entails quantifying the effects of plant mass flow rates, operating pressures, and heat exchanger inventory allocation on the global performance. The multi-objective optimization consists of maximizing both the round-trip and exergy efficiency and identifying their trade-offs via the Pareto front. Results demonstrate the presence of a critical liquid air mass flow rate beyond which reverse cooling is instigated and the plant performance is degraded. Furthermore, the two objective functions in the optimization are shown to compete against each other, although the round trip efficiency is deemed as a more practical performance metric while the maximum exergy efficiency design better exploits solar energy as a high-grade heat source. The best design for the plant layout under analysis yields the round trip and exergy efficiency of 20% and 59%, respectively, with the critical mass flow rate of 0.8 kg/s.

Abstract The rapid spread of COVID-19 worldwide since 2020 has, undeniably, negatively influenced the global economy and environment. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are among the worst-hit victims of COVID-19, particularly in developing countries. As primary channels financing SMEs, what roles have private equity and venture capital (PE/VC) played in this crisis? Using the 2010-2021 data of 4462 listed companies, we aimed to assess the impact of PE/VC on financial risk among Chinese SMEs. We constructed a capital structure selection model to assess the risk preference of PE/VC and explored the roles of PE/VC in the financial risk management of enterprises during COVID-19. Based on both theory and empirical evidence, PE/VC negatively impacts the financial risk of enterprises, implying that intervention by the management of PE/VC can aggravate the financial risk. However, in reality, PE/VC positively impacted enterprise financial risk during COVID-19. Thus, the government should implement some easing policies to stimulate access and investment policies of PE/VC as well as provide more practical policies to support investment institutions in China and other counties.
