Abstract With heightened concern over carbon neutrality and increased energy market fluctuations against the backdrop of increasing global uncertainty, it becomes imperative to thoroughly investigate the information transmission and risk contagion between carbon and energy markets. This paper empirically explores the return and volatility connectedness among carbon and energy markets (electricity, natural gas, crude oil, and coal) from April 2008 to September 2021 by employing the time-frequency domain connectedness approaches. This paper indicates: i) the return connectedness exceeds volatility connectedness, and extreme events can intensify the dynamic changes; ii) the return connectedness is predominantly concentrated at high-frequency, while the volatility connectedness is concentrated at medium- and low-frequency. Net volatility connectedness maintains a consistent direction across all markets in the time-frequency domain. In contrast, net return connectedness exhibits an opposing direction at high-frequency and medium- and low-frequency. iii) the natural gas and coal markets predominantly act as net transmitters in both return and volatility connectedness, while the electricity, crude oil, and carbon markets operate as net receivers. Moreover, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the carbon market emerged as an information receiver in time-frequency domains and acted as a risk transmitter, exporting risk, particularly to the electricity market. These conclusions help investors, high-carbon enterprises, and policymakers to comprehensively understand the carbon-energy relationships, thereby supporting sustainable energy development and low-carbon economic goals. Simultaneously, this paper provides insights for enhancing carbon markets in emerging markets like China.

Abstract This work developed a novel method for measuring the effective rate of a PBA (physical blowing agent) and solved the problem that the effective rate of a PBA could not be directly measured or calculated in previous studies. The results show that the effectiveness of different PBAs under the same experimental conditions varied widely, from approximately 50% to almost 90%. In this study, the overall average effective rates of the PBAs HFC-245fa, HFO-1336mzzZ, HFC-365mfc, HFCO-1233zd(E), and HCFC-141b are in descending order. In all experimental groups, the relationship between the effective rate of the PBA, rePBA, and the initial mass ratio of the PBA to other blending materials in the polyurethane rigid foam, w, demonstrated a trend of first decreasing and then gradually stabilizing or slightly increasing. This trend is caused by the interaction of PBA molecules among themselves and with other component molecules in the foamed material and the temperature of the foaming system. In general, the influence of system temperature dominated when w was less than 9.05 wt%, and the interaction of PBA molecules among themselves and with other component molecules in the foamed material dominated when w was greater than 9.05 wt%. The effective rate of the PBA is also related to the states of gasification and condensation when they reach equilibrium. The properties of the PBA itself determine the overall efficiency, while the balance between the gasification and condensation processes of the PBA further leads to a regular change in efficiency with respect to w around the overall average level.

Abstract Kidney stone has a high incidence and recurrence rate, which is one of the common diseases in urology. At present, Randall's plaque theory is a widely accepted mechanism for the formation of kidney stones. Studies on Randall's plaque are of great significance for the prevention and treatment of kidney stones. Renal epithelial cell damage promotes the formation of Randall's plaque. In this paper, the research progress of osteogenic changes in renal epithelial cells, reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress, phagocytosis of macrophages, and non-coding RNA changes are reviewed.

Abstract This article studies an optimal event-triggered control (ETC) problem of nonlinear continuous-time systems subject to asymmetric control constraints. The present nonlinear plant differs from many studied systems in that its equilibrium point is nonzero. First, we introduce a discounted cost for such a system in order to obtain the optimal ETC without making coordinate transformations. Then, we present an event-triggered Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation (ET-HJBE) arising in the discounted-cost constrained optimal ETC problem. After that, we propose an event-triggering condition guaranteeing a positive lower bound for the minimal intersample time. To solve the ET-HJBE, we construct a critic network under the framework of adaptive critic learning. The critic network weight vector is tuned through a modified gradient descent method, which simultaneously uses historical and instantaneous state data. By employing the Lyapunov method, we prove that the uniform ultimate boundedness of all signals in the closed-loop system is guaranteed. Finally, we provide simulations of a pendulum system and an oscillator system to validate the obtained optimal ETC strategy.

Abstract In this article, we propose a novel decentralized event-triggered control (ETC) scheme for a class of continuous-time nonlinear systems with matched interconnections. The present interconnected systems differ from most of the existing interconnected plants in that their equilibrium points are no longer assumed to be zero. Initially, we establish a theorem to indicate that the decentralized ETC law for the overall system can be represented by an array of optimal ETC laws for nominal subsystems. Then, to obtain these optimal ETC laws, we develop a reinforcement learning (RL)-based method to solve the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations arising in the discounted-cost optimal ETC problems of the nominal subsystems. Meanwhile, we only use critic networks to implement the RL-based approach and tune the critic network weight vectors by using the gradient descent method and the concurrent learning technique together. With the proposed weight vectors tuning rule, we are able to not only relax the persistence of the excitation condition but also ensure the critic network weight vectors to be uniformly ultimately bounded. Moreover, by utilizing the Lyapunov method, we prove that the obtained decentralized ETC law can force the entire system to be stable in the sense of uniform ultimate boundedness. Finally, we validate the proposed decentralized ETC strategy through simulations of the nonlinear-interconnected systems derived from two inverted pendulums connected via a spring.

Abstract Introduction: Obesity not only affects human health but also is an important risk factor for a variety of chronic diseases. Therefore, it is particularly important to analyse the epidemic trend of obesity and actively carry out the prevention and control of obesity in the population.
Material and methods: A total of 4565 adults were selected by multi-stage stratified random sampling in Shenmu, Shaanxi Province, China. Univariate analysis was used to explore the epidemic characteristics of obesity in this region. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyse the relationship between obesity and chronic diseases. Finally, the prediction efficiency of different obesity indexes was analysed by drawing receiver operator characteristic curves (ROC). All statistical analysis was completed by SPSS 26.0 software.
Results: The prevalence rates of overweight, obesity, and central obesity were 39.9%, 18.2%, and 48.0%, respectively. After adjusting for other confounding factors, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that overweight and obesity were risk factors for hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and hyperuricaemia. Central obesity is a risk factor for dyslipidaemia and hyperuricaemia. High level of waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) was a risk factor for dyslipidaemia and hyperuricaemia (p < 0.05). Obesity-related indicators: body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and WHtR, are strongly correlated with the increased risk of chronic diseases in northern Shaanxi, China. The optimal BMI cut-off values for predicting hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and hyperuricaemia were 24.27, 24.04, and 25.54, respectively. The optimal WC cut-off values for predicting dyslipidaemia and hyperuricaemia were 84.5 and 90.5, and WHtR cut-off values were 0.52 and 0.54, respectively.
Conclusion: The problem of overweight, obesity, and central obesity in adults is serious in northern Shaanxi, China. Obesity of all types will increase the risk of chronic diseases. Therefore, a variety of preventive and therapeutic measures should be adopted to curb obesity and reduce the incidence of related chronic diseases.
