Abstract During the start-up process, air foil thrust bearings (AFTBs) come into contact and are prone to localized overheating and even failure. Frequent starts and stops are the major sources of wear. In this study, a transient mixed lubrication model considering the air rarefaction effect is established. In the model, asperity contact between the top foil of the air foil thrust bearing (AFTB) and the rotor surface is considered using a deterministic approach, and the deformation of the foil structure is considered using the elastic-aerodynamic coupling. The influences of bearing compliance, external load, acceleration time and contact stiffness on the tribological properties during the start-up process are investigated. The results show that the lift-off speed increases with the increase of the bearing compliance and of the external load. Specifically, the lift-off speed of AFTBs increases from 1950 rpm to 5325 rpm when the bearing compliance increases linearly from 0.2 to 1.0. When the external load increases from 10 N to 80 N, the lift-off speed is increased by approximately 30 times, from 450 rpm to 13,575 rpm. Furthermore, a decrease in the acceleration time of the rotor generates a decrease in the lift-off time and an increase in the contact stiffness of the bearing leads to a decrease in the lift-off speed of the bearing. By exploring the effects of the bearing parameters and working conditions on the tribological performance of AFTBs during start-up, the results presented in this study can provide theoretical support for improving start-up performance and designing high-reliability and long-life AFTBs.

Abstract Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, whilst vitamin D levels have been found to be associated with cardiovascular disease. To investigate the causal relationship between vitamin D levels and five cardiovascular diseases, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was carried out using data on vitamin D levels (sample size = 79366), angina pectoris (18168 cases and 187840 controls), coronary heart disease (21012 cases and 197780 controls), lacunar stroke (6030 cases and 248929 controls), heart attack (10693 cases and 451187 controls), and hypertension (55917 cases and 162837 controls), with a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis being subsequently performed. Six single nucleotide polymorphisms were used as instrumental variables (IVs). In addition, sensitivity analysis was performed to verify the reliability of the MR results here. The results showed a causal relationship between vitamin D levels and angina pectoris (OR = 0.51, 95 % CI: 0.28–0.93, P = 0.03), coronary heart disease (OR = 0.53, 95 % CI: 0.34–0.81, P = 0.004), and lacunar stroke (OR = 0.41, 95 % CI: 0.20–0.86, P = 0.02), but no causal relationship with heart attacks (OR = 1.00, 95 % CI: 0.99–1.01, P = 0.76) or hypertension (OR = 0.99, 95 % CI: 0.73–1.34, P = 0.94). Additionally, our IVs data showed no heterogeneity or pleiotropy, whilst the results of the MR analysis were reliable. This study contributes to the prevention and treatment of these five cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract This 70-year retrospective of the Chinese work on philosophy of logic is presented mainly in terms of the notion of the “philosophy of logic”, the notion of logic and the social-cultural role of logic. It generally involves three kinds of questions, namely, how to distinguish philosophical logic from the philosophy of logic, what the nature and scope of logic is from Chinese scholars’ point of view, and why the social-cultural role of logic is underscored in the Chinese context. Finally, some of the prospects for the future studies of philosophy of logic in China are indicated.

Abstract Introduction: The ratio of Triglyceride (TG) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is a crucial indicator for diabetes diagnosis.
Methods: This study utilizes the Copula function to model and fit the non-linear correlation among fasting blood glucose (Glu), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C), and TG/HDL-C in patients with diabetes. The Copula function chosen for this study includes the two-dimensional Archimedes and Elliptical distribution family, as well as the multidimensional Vine Copula function, for fitting the data. The evaluation of the fitting effect is performed using the mean absolute error (MAE) and mean square error (MSE).
Results: The results indicate that the Clayton Copula exhibits the highest effectiveness in fitting the pairwise relationship between Glu and TG/HDL-C, as well as HbA1C and TG/HDL-C, displaying the smallest fitting error. Additionally, the Vine Copula function produces a satisfactory fit for the relationship among all three indicators. Compared to linear analysis methods, the Copula function more accurately depicts the correlation among these three types of indicators.
Discussion: Moreover, our findings indicate a stronger correlation in the lower tail between Glu and HbA1C, as well as TG/HDL-C, suggesting that the Copula function provides greater accuracy and applicability in depicting the relationship among these indicators. As a result, it can offer a more precise auxiliary diagnosis and serve as a valuable reference in clinical judgment.

Abstract This paper employs a unique data set to analyze the trading behavior of wealthy individual investors across Mainland China and their impact on Chinese stock markets' tail risk. Results show that the wealthy individual investors' trading behavior can explain Chinese stock markets' tail risk, and the daily investment portfolios based on the network density of wealthy individual investors have significant excess returns. This paper also investigates the determinants of wealthy individual investors' trading behavior with the social network method and the spatial econometric model, and reveals that wealthy individuals benefit from the spillover effect of their trading behavior through the investor networks. The results of this paper not only reveal micro evidence for the formation mechanism of asset prices, but also provide insight into the behavior of wealthy individual investors.

Abstract An aortico-left ventricular tunnel is a rare congenital heart disease, and its prenatal diagnosis is even rarer. This report describes a fetus diagnosed with an aortico-left ventricular tunnel at 26 weeks of gestation. After delivery, the infant exhibited cyanosis and cessation of breathing. After resuscitation, he was transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit. Echocardiography confirmed an aortico-left ventricular tunnel. The infant survived after surgical repair. An aortico-left ventricular tunnel can be diagnosed by antenatal ultrasound, and prompt neonatal management can help to prevent perinatal morbidity and mortality.

Abstract Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics and trend of primary intussusception in children in Wuhan from 2016 to 2022. Methods Clinical data of hospitalized children with primary intussusception admitted in our department from January 2016 to December 2022 were collected and retrospectively studied. Then descriptive research was performed to analyze the epidemiological characteristics and trend of primary intussusception in recent 7 years. Results A total of 6 506 children of primary intussusception were treated in our hospital during the past 7 years, including 4 457 boys and 2 049 girls, with a female-to-male ratio of 2.18 ∶1. They were at a mean age of 23.56±18.03 months (2 d~12 years). The disease was more common in an age of 6 to 12 months, and 81.16% (5 280/6 506) of the patients were under 3 years old. Most onset cases occurred in July. During 2016 and 2022, the constitution ratio of these children younger than 1 year old was decreased from 41.36% to 16.67%, while that of those aged 1-3 years was increased from 43.80% to 56.28%, and the average age of the patients was increased from 20.04±15.88 months to 30.37±20.30 months. Significant differences were observed in the age distributions between different genders (P < 0.01). For the patients aged < 3 years, the girls took larger proportion, while the male patients covered larger proportion among those over 3 years old. There were no statistically differences in the seasonal and urban-rural distributions of the disease between different genders. Abdominal ultrasound examination was a major imaging method (98.97%, 6 439/6 506). Non-surgical therapy was the majority of treatment (92.64%, 6 027/6 506), with a success rate of 92.25% (5 560/6 027). Recurrence occurred in 376 (5.78%) cases, 56.91% of whom were younger than 1 years old, and among them, 214 (75.27%) cases occurred within 6 months. But no statistical differences were observed in the age distribution and disease course between the successful enema group and the failure group ...

Abstract Abstract Mechanochromic photonic crystals (MPCs) have shown wide applications in visual sensing, displays, anti‐counterfeiting, etc. However, most reported MPCs can only sense stretching or pressure and exhibit poor sensitivity, which greatly limits their applications. Here, sensitive MPCs with brilliant structural colors capable of sensing both stretching and pressures are fabricated by combining self‐assembly and photo‐polymerization processes. The non‐closely packed structures and high reflectance enable MPCs with outstanding mechanochormic performances. The photo‐initiator concentration and thickness have a dramatic influence on the reflectance, wavelength, and even color uniformity. Interestingly, the same MPC shows diverse sensitivity values under stretching or pressing, and the sensitivity of the MPC by pressing is much higher than that by stretching due to their different deformations along three‐dimensional directions. These results are helpful for gaining a deeper understanding of the mechanochromic mechanism and sensitivity. In addition, dynamic patterns with tailorable color contrasts based on pressure and visual sensing based on stretching in practical applications are realized by taking the above advantages of MPCs. This study offers new insight into understanding mechanochromic behavior and will advance their applications in sensing, printing, and information encryption.

Abstract Twin support vector machine (TWSVM), which constructs two nonparallel classifying hyperplanes, is widely applied to various fields. However, TWSVM solves two quadratic programming problems (QPPs) separately such that the final classifiers lack consistency and enough prediction accuracy. Moreover, by reason of only considering the 1-norm penalty for slack variables, TWSVM is not well defined in the geometrical view. In this article, we propose a novel elastic net nonparallel hyperplane support vector machine (ENNHSVM), which adopts elastic net penalty for slack variables and constructs two nonparallel separating hyperplanes simultaneously. We further discuss the properties of ENNHSVM theoretically and derive the violation tolerance upper bound to better demonstrate the relative violations of training samples in the same class. In particular, we design a safe screening rule for ENNHSVM to speed up the calculations. We finally compare the performance of ENNHSVM on both synthetic datasets and benchmark datasets with the Lagrangian SVM, the twin parametric-margin SVM, the elastic net SVM, the TWSVM, and the nonparallel hyperplane SVM.
