Abstract Safe and effective arteriovenous fistula (AVF) puncture is very important to reduce the wound complications of haemodialysis (HD). For AVF puncture in dialysis patients, there is a lack of clarity and consistency regarding the relative advantage of buttonhole (BH) over rope-ladder (RL) cannulae in terms of wound complications. The study was published in several scientific databases including Cochrane Library, PubMed and Embase by October 2023. Data from all controlled trials looking at the effect of BH and RL on wound complications in haemodialysis patients were included. The articles were written in English, and they were about adult who had AVF while on dialysis. Studies with or without BH or RL treatment were excluded from the analysis. The data was analysed with RevMan5.3 software. Out of 215 trials, 9 were chosen for the final analysis. The study publication dates were between 2000 and 2023. Of these, 17 326 patients received AVF therapy. Among them, there were 3070 BH and 14 256 RL. In 9 studies, RL had a lower risk of postoperative wound infection compared to BH (OR, 3.38; 95% CI, 3.06, 3.73 p < 0.0001); In all 3 studies, there were no statistically significant differences in the risk of post operative bleeding in RL versus BH(OR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.25, 2.33 p = 0.63). Our studies have demonstrated that RL trocars are superior to BH trocars in the prevention of wound infection.

Abstract The blackness traits, considered an important economic factor in the black-bone chicken industry, still exhibits a common phenomenon of significant difference in blackness of breast muscle. To improve this phenomenon, this study compared growth traits, blackness traits, and transcriptome of breast muscles between the High Blackness Group (H group) and Low Blackness Group (L group) in the Xuefeng black-bone chickens. The results are as follows: 1) There was no significant difference in growth traits between the H group and the L group (P > 0.05). 2) The skin/breast muscle L values in the H group were significantly lower than those in the L group, while the breast muscle melanin content exhibited the opposite trend (P < 0.05). 3) A significant negative correlation was observed between breast muscle melanin content and skin/breast muscle L value (P < 0.05), and skin L value exhibiting a significant positive correlation with breast muscle L value (P < 0.05). 4) The breast muscle transcriptome comparison between the H group and L group revealed 831 and 405 DEGs in female and male chickens, respectively. This included 37 shared DEGs significantly enriched in melanosome, pigment granule, and the melanogenesis pathway. Seven candidate genes (DCT, PMEL, MLANA, TYRP1, OCA2, EDNRB2, and CALML4) may play a crucial role in the melanin production of breast muscle in Xuefeng black-bone chicken. The findings could accelerate the breeding process for achieving desired levels of breast muscle blackness and contribute to the exploration of the mechanisms underlying melanin production in black-bone chickens.

Abstract This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of palygorskite and probiotics complex (Pal–Pro) supplementation on laying performance, the microflora structure and biodiversity of Xuefeng black-bone chicken. A total of 432 Xuefeng black-bone chickens were randomly assigned into 4 groups with 6 replicates of 18 hens. The control group (group A) was fed the basal diet, and the experimental groups (groups B, C and D) were fed basal diet supplemented with 250, 500 and 750 mg/kg Pal–Pro for 8 weeks. The results were as follows: (1) The Pal–Pro supplementation linearly increased (p < .05) laying rate, and linearly decreased the feed conversion ratio (p < .05). (2) At the phylum level, compared with the group A, the abundance of Bacteroidetes was increased (p < .05) and the abundance of Proteobacteria was decreased (p < .05) in group D, and the abundance of Fusobacteria was increased in group C (p < .05). (3) At the genus level, the abundance of Bacteroides, Lachnospiraceae_unclassified and Ruminococcaceae_UCG-014 of group D were higher (p < .05) than those in group A, the abundance of CHKCI001 of group B was higher than that in group A, and compared with group A, the abundance of Fusobacterium was increased (p < .05) and the abundance of Pseudomonas was decreased in groups C and D (p < .05). (4)The Spearman correlation analysis showed that Aeriscardovia was negatively correlated with laying rate (p < .01), and Enterococcus and Ruminococcaceae_UCG-014 were positively correlated with egg weight (p < .05). In conclusion, dietary Pal–Pro may improve laying performance by adjusting the flora structure. The recommended dosage is 750 mg/kg.HIGHLIGHTSDietary supplementation of Pal–Pro improved the laying performance of Xuefeng black-bone chicken. Dietary supplementation of Pal–Pro could alter the faecal microbial community of Xuefeng black-bone chicken. Aeriscardovia was negatively correlated with laying rate, Enterococcus and Ruminococcaceae_UCG∼014 were positively correlated with egg weight.

Abstract To investigate the supplemental effects of Hermetia illucens larvae meal (HILM) on the production, egg quality, yolk fatty acid composition, egg amino acid content, oxidative status, and immune indexes of laying hens. A total of 432 Xuefeng black-bone chickens (45-week-old) were randomly assigned to 4 treatments with 6 replicates per treatment and 18 hens in each replicate. The laying hens were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0%, 1%, 3%, and 5% HILM (CON, HILM-1, HILM-3, and HILM-5, respectively) for 56 d. The experimental diets were isonitrogenous and isoenergetic. The highest egg weight and Haugh unit were obtained with 3% HILM supplementation, but the HILM-3 or HILM-5 supplementation have negative effect on the eggshell thickness, yolk index, and albumen height during the early stage of the experiment. The HILM supplementation linearly or quadratically (p < .05) increased the C14:0, C17:0, C18:2n6c, C20:2 contents of yolk, the Glu, Val, Met, Phe, and Leu contents of egg, the T-SOD and CAT activities, and the NDV-Ab and AIV-Ab levels of plasma. With increasing supplementation of HILM in the basal diet, FCR, the C16:0 and C16:1 contents of yolk, MDA content and IL-2 level of plasma decreased both linearly or quadratically (p < .05). In conclusion, Hermetia illucens larvae meal can be a suitable alternative protein source for Xuefeng black-bone chicken. Dietary supplementation of 3% HILM in basal diets may be a feasible means of effectively increasing the production performance of laying hens, and partially enhanced hens’ antioxidant capability and immune function.HIGHLIGHTSSupplementation of 1% HILM had no effect on laying hens, and supplementation of 3% HILM increased the egg weight and Haugh unit. Supplementation of 3% HILM or 5% HILM have a negative effect on the eggshell thickness, yolk index, and albumen height during the early stage of the experiment. Supplementation of 3% HILM increased the C14:0, C17:0, and C20:2 contents of yolk, the Glu, Val, Met, Phe, and Leu contents of egg. The plasma antioxidant status and immune response improved by dietary addition of HILM at 3% levels.
