    Abstract Vegetation flow is more and more widely studied by scholars at home and abroad because it is an important condition affecting river water quality. However, most of the studies were carried out based on the data of indoor experimental flumes, because the vegetation conditions in nature are more complex. The analytical solution of the flow velocity based on indoor conditions often has some problems when applied to practical projects. Therefore, we propose a numerical method based on the lattice Boltzmann method to simulate the vertical velocity distribution in an open channel with double-layered rigid vegetation. This method has high simulation accuracy in different vegetation conditions. At the same time, because the lattice Boltzmann method is more conducive to simulating complex boundary conditions, it is easier to combine with a multi-layered rigid vegetation flow and a flexible vegetation flow in nature after improvement, providing a basis for the application of indoor theoretical results to the outdoor. HIGHLIGHTS This method has a high simulation accuracy in different vegetation conditions.; It is helpful to study hydrological processes in the vegetation river.;

    Abstract Background: Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common primary ocular tumour in adults. The most used eye-preserving treatments are charged-particle therapy (CPT) and brachytherapy. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare efficacies and complications of these two radiotherapies.
    Methods: We searched EMBASE, PubMed, MEDLINE, and the Cochrane Library from January 2012 to December 2022. Two independent reviewers identified controlled studies comparing outcomes of CPT versus brachytherapy. Case series that utilize either treatment modality were also reviewed.
    Results: One hundred fifty studies met the eligibility criteria, including 2 randomized control trials, 5 controlled cohort studies, and 143 case series studies. We found significant reduction in local recurrence rate among patients treated with CPT compared to brachytherapy (Odds ratio[OR] 0.38, 95% Confidence interval [CI] 0.24-0.60, p < 0.01). Analysis also showed a trend of increased risks of secondary glaucoma after CPT. No statistically significant differences were found in analyzing risks of mortality, enucleation, and cataract.
    Conclusions: Our study suggested no difference in mortality, enucleation rate and cataract formation rate comparing the two treatments. Lower local recurrence rate and possibly higher secondary glaucoma incidence was noted among patients treated with CPT. Nevertheless, the overall level of evidence is limited, and further high-quality studies are necessary to provide a more definitive conclusion.

    Abstract Global change in recent decades has caused severe degradation of grassland ecosystems in arid and semi-arid regions in the world. In the context of global change, the maximum gross primary production (GPPmax) and its response to drought on the Mongolian Plateau (MP) remain unclear. Here, we used long time-series datasets (temperature, precipitation, GPP) and calculated GPPmax, timing of GPPmax (TGM), and Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) to explore the changes in peak growth of vegetation and its response to drought on the MP from 1982 to 2018. Our results show that GPPmax and TGM presented high spatial heterogeneity. The mean GPPmax was 336 g C·m−2 over the past three decades, with a decreasing trend at a rate of 0.32 g C·m−2·year−1; the mean TGM was on DOY (day of year) 197, with little year-to-year change, TGM received the time-lag effect (mostly 1, 2, 10 months in time scale) of drought was found in 35.3% of the MP, while the cumulative effect of drought on TGM occurred only 16.3% of the MP. These results reveal changes in vegetation growth peaks on the MP and their response to drought over three decades and can contribute to our understanding of the response and feedbacks of MP vegetation to global change.

    Abstract Adolescent developmental outcomes can vary significantly by differences in ethnicity. While previous studies have examined the impacts of adolescents’ own ethnicity on their development, little research has been conducted about the impacts of the ethnicity of both parents as an important family background factor which is likely to expose adolescents to a variety of growth environments. Using nationally representative data from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) surveys, we examine the relationship between parental ethnicity (including both monoethnic families and interethnic families with intermarried Han and ethnic minority groups) and adolescent developmental outcomes, measured by academic performance, cognitive development, and health. Our results show that adolescents with interethnic parents had higher scores in literacy and mathematics tests than those of monoethnic non-Han parents, but their scores were not statistically significantly different from those in monoethnic Han families. Adolescents with interethnic parents also performed better in fluid intelligence assessments and had lower obesity rates than those with monoethnic ethnic minority parents. Our results further suggest that socioeconomic status, parental education, and education expectations partially mediate the association between interethnic parents and adolescent development. Moreover, parental ethnic composition acts as a potential moderator that influences the effects of parents’ non-agricultural work on adolescent development. Our study expands the growing body of empirical evidence on the relationship between parental ethnicity and adolescent development and is conducive to policy recommendations for interventions in the development of adolescents with ethnic minority parents.

    Abstract The traveling wave and slope amplification effects should be considered in the shaking table test of large-span structures in mountain areas. Based on the structural characteristics and site conditions of a large-span structure in a mountain area, this paper designed a high-rise steel frame structure with viscous dampers through finite element analysis to amplify seismic waves with a time delay. Then, the original structure and steel frame models with a similarity ratio of 1/40 were made for shaking table tests. The test results showed that a high-rise steel frame structure with reasonable viscous dampers could delay and amplify seismic waves, and the scaled model of the structure could play the same role in shaking table tests. Meanwhile, by comparing the seismic responses of large-span structural models in mountain areas before and after the amplification of seismic wave delays, it was found that the delay and amplification of seismic waves had little impact on the acceleration response of the structure. In contrast, the seismic wave delay played a dominant role in the change in the structural displacement response.

    Abstract Purpose: To compare the efficiency and safety of internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling between the Sharkskin forceps and End-grasping forceps in various macular diseases.
    Methods: It is a prospective cohort block-randomized study conducted in a tertiary medical center. Seventy subjects with macular hole, epiretinal membrane, vitreomacular traction syndrome, or myopic foveoschisis, receiving pars plana vitrectomy and ILM peeling surgery were equally divided into Sharkskin forceps group and End-grasping forceps group. The duration of ILM peeling, the number of attempts to initiate peeling, and peeling-related retinal damage were evaluated by recorded video and optical coherence tomography.
    Results: In the Sharkskin group, the authors demonstrated significantly fewer attempts to initiate ILM peeling compared with End-grasping group, with an average of 1.9 and 3.1 attempts ( P = 0.0001) and a lower incidence of retinal microstructural damage (20% vs. 45%, P < 0.0001). Moreover, the mean depth of inner retinal injury at the initiating site exhibited distinct difference postoperatively at 3 months between the Sharkskin group then the End-grasping group (4.3 vs. 30.0 µ m, P = 0.001).
    Conclusion: Sharkskin forceps provide better efficiency and outcome in ILM peeling in patients with various vitreomacular interface diseases, including reduced risk of retinal injury and fewer attempts to initiate ILM flap.

    Abstract Abstract Background NSCLC is a malignant tumor with a high incidence. Ferroptosis presents an essential function in regulating carcinogenesis and tumor progression. However, the ferroptosis-associated prognostic model based on single-cell sequencing of NSCLC remains unexplored. Our study aims to establish a potential predictive model for NSCLC patients and provide available targeted drugs for clinical treatment. Methods The data on NSCLC patients were collected from TCGA and GEO databases to analyze their gene expression profiles. ConsensusCluster was adopted to divide the patients into different groups based on ferroptosis-related genes. Then, the univariable Cox and LASSO analyses were applied to data analysis and model establishment. Single-cell analysis was used to explore the risk score genes in different cell populations and states. The protein levels of these genes were also investigated through the HPA database. Drug sensitivity was evaluated in CellMiner database. CCK8 and colony formation assays were performed to validate potential drugs’ effects on lung cancer cell lines. Results A ferroptosis-related prognostic model involving 14 genes in NSCLC patients was established. The risk score model was developed in training set GSE31210 and validated in the test set TCGA. The low-risk score group showed a better prognosis than the high-risk score group. The single-cell analysis revealed that the risk score genes were mainly derived from lung tumor cells. Most risk score genes were more highly expressed in tumor tissue than in normal tissue, according to the HPA database. Besides, these genes were associated with 106 drugs in CellMiner database. Finally, the drug effects on NSCLC cell growth were evaluated by cck8 and colony formation. Conclusions We identified an effective ferroptosis-related prognostic model based on single-cell sequencing. The potential prediction model is devoted to exploring clinical therapeutic targets for NSCLC.

    Abstract To find the gene hypervariable regions of three varieties of Hansenia forbesii H. Boissieu and determine their phylogenetic relationship, the chloroplast (cp) genome of these three varieties were firstly sequencing by the Illumina hiseq platform. In this study, we assembled the complete cp genome sequences of Hansenia forbesii LQ (156,954 bp), H. forbesii QX (157,181 bp), H. forbesii WQ (156,975 bp). They all contained 84 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNAs, and 8 rRNAs. The hypervariable regions between three cp genomes were atpF-atpH, petD, and rps15-ycf1. Phylogenetic analysis showed that H. forbesii LQ and H. forbesii WQ were closely related, followed by H. forbesii QX. This study showed that the three varieties of H. forbesii could be identified by the complete cp genome and specific DNA barcode (trnC-GCA-petN) and provided a new idea for germplasm identification of similar cultivated varieties.

    Abstract Thermo-oxidative aging plays an important role in changing the properties of rubber materials; it significantly decreases the fatigue life of air spring bags and further causes safety hazards. However, due to the great uncertainty of rubber material properties, an effective interval prediction model has not been established considering the effect of aging on airbag rubber properties. To solve the problem, this study proposes an interval parameter correlation model that can more accurately describe rubber crack propagation characteristics by considering material uncertainty. Furthermore, an aging prediction model of the rubber crack propagation characteristic region is established based on the Arrhenius equation. The effectiveness and accuracy of the method are verified by comparing the test and prediction results under the temperature spectrum. The method can be used to determine the variations in the interval change of the fatigue crack propagation parameters during rubber aging and can guide fatigue reliability analyses of air spring bags.

    Abstract This study was aimed at discussing artificial intelligence (AI) limb rehabilitation system on account of virtual reality (VR) on long-term health management of stroke patients. In the study, AI limb rehabilitation system on account of VR technology was compared with traditional drug therapy, and effects of the two therapies on long-term health management of stroke patients were compared. Fifty patients with stroke in the hospital were randomly divided into experimental group and control group with 25 patients in each group. Patients in experimental group were treated with AI limb rehabilitation system on account of VR technology, and those in control group were treated with traditional drug therapy. To compare and judge the recovery of patients’ physical ability, patients in the two groups were compared in physical movement ability and daily living activity ability after 10-week treatment. After 10-week treatment, Fugl-Meyer assessment-upper extremity (FMA-UE), Fugl-Meyer assessment-lower extremity (FMA-LE), the Hong Kong version of functional test for the hemiplegic upper extremity (FTHUE-HK), Barthel index (BI) daily living (ADL) activities, and Berg balance scale (BBS) in control group were lower than those in experimental group, but the score of MWS was higher than that of experimental group (P<0.05). AI limb rehabilitation system on account of VR technology could effectively recover the daily health management of stroke patients, and its effect was significantly higher than that of traditional drug therapy. This method could be popularized in clinic.
