Abstract Background: Cronkhite-Canada syndrome (CCS) is a rare, noninherited disease characterized by gastrointestinal polyposis with diarrhea and ectodermal abnormalities. CCS polyps are distributed through the whole digestive tract, and they are common in the stomach and colon but very uncommon in the esophagus.
Case summary: Here, we present a case of a 63-year-old man with skin hyperpigmentation accompanied by diarrhea, alopecia, and loss of his fingernails. Laboratory data indicated anemia, hypoalbuminemia, hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, and positive fecal occult blood. Endoscopy showed numerous polyps scattered throughout the digestive tract, including the esophagus. He was treated with nutritional support and glucocorticoids with remission of his symptoms.
Conclusion: Comprehensive treatment led by hormonal therapy can result in partial or full remission of clinical symptoms. Treatment should be individualized for each patient according to their therapy response. Surveillance endoscopy is necessary for assessing mucosal disease activity and detecting malignant transformation.

Abstract Building on attribution theory, this study applied regression analysis and explored the double-edged sword effect of leader self-sacrifice behavior on employee work outcomes, thus revealing the potential negative impacts of such behavior. Specifically, when leadership self-sacrifice was met with low employee authenticity attribution, we found that employees tended to perceive leadership as hypocritical, thus reducing their organizational citizenship behavior. By contrast, when leaders' self-sacrifice behavior was met with high employee authenticity attribution, employees tended to trust the leader and improve their task performance. Given these findings, we challenge the general scholarly consensus on leadership self-sacrifice behavior, enrich the current literature on leadership self-sacrifice, and emphasize the important role of employee attribution in the relevant leadership process.

Abstract Urban space greening is of great significance for improving urban underground space environment. At present, the design of urban underground space in China mostly involves the design of underground space. However, very rare research has been conducted on the design of semi-underground space greening to date. Through case study and survey research, this study focuses on the design of domestic semi-underground space, the preliminary semi-underground space greening design scheme, and the concrete implementation process of the semi-underground public space green wall greening design. The current study employs the green wall project in a semi-underground space environment as an example to illustrate the application of greening design in urban semi-underground space, and provide guidance for future ecological design of semiunderground public space.

Abstract Wood fibers (WFs) were treated at a fixed heat temperature (180 °C) for 2-6 h and added to a polylactic acid (PLA) matrix to produce wood-PLA composite (WPC) filaments. Additionally, the effects of the heat-treated WFs on the physicomechanical properties and impact strength of the WPC filaments and 3D-printed WPC parts using fused filament fabrication (FFF) were examined. The results revealed that heat-treated WFs caused an increase in crystallinity and a significant reduction in the number of pores on the failure cross section of the WPC filament, resulting in a higher tensile modulus and lower elongation at break. Additionally, the printed WPC parts with heat-treated WFs had higher tensile strength and lower water absorption compared to untreated WPC parts. However, most of the mechanical properties and impact strength of 3D-printed WPC parts were not significantly influenced by adding heat-treated WFs. As described above, at the fixed fiber addition amount, adding heat-treated WFs improved the dimensional stability of the WPC parts and it enabled a high retention ratio of mechanical properties and impact strength of the WPC parts.

Abstract Hearing loss is the most common sensory disorder in human beings. Cochlear sensory cells are the basis of hearing. Cochlear sensory cells suffer from various acute or chronic injuries, such as excessive sound stimulation, ototoxic drugs, and age-related degeneration. In response to these stresses, the cochlea develops an immune response. In recent years, studies have shown that the immune response of the inner ear has been regarded as one of the important pathological mechanisms of inner ear injury. Therapeutic interventions for inflammatory responses can effectively alleviate different types of inner ear injury. As the main immune cells in the inner ear, macrophages are involved in the process of inner ear injury caused by various exogenous factors. However, its specific role in the immune response of the inner ear is still unclear. This review focuses on discusses the dynamic changes of macrophages during different types of inner ear injury, and clarifies the potential role of macrophage-related immune response in inner ear injury.

Abstract BackgroundHypertension poses a serious health problem among Thai older adults which could subsequently lead to disability. However, little to no research has been conducted to understand modifiable risk factors of disability among community-dwelling older adults with hypertension in Thailand. In addition, sex is an important social determinant of health, but its role in disability among older adults with hypertension is less clear.ObjectivesThis study focused on community-dwelling older adults with hypertension in Thailand and investigated predictors of disability and examined sex differences in the risk factors that were associated with disability in this population.MethodsLongitudinal data were from the Health, Aging, and Retirement in Thailand (HART) survey (2015–2017; N = 916). The outcome variable was difficulty with the activity of daily living at follow-up. Potential risk factors included sociodemographic information, health behaviors/health status, and disability at baseline. Descriptive analysis and logistic regression analysis were employed to analyze the data.ResultsMost of the participants were female and between aged 60 and 69 years old. Being in an older age group (OR = 1.78, 95% CI: 1.07–2.97, p < 0.05), having more chronic conditions (OR = 1.38, 95% CI: 1.10–1.73, p < 0.01), experiencing obesity (OR = 2.02, 95% CI: 1.11–3.69, p < 0.05), and having disability at baseline (OR = 2.42, 95% CI: 1.09–5.37, p < 0.05) significantly predicted disability at 2 year follow-up among community-dwelling Thai older adults with hypertension. The effects of these risk factors on disability at follow-up did not differ by sex. However, different risk factors of disability were observed across sexes.ConclusionThe situations of disability among older adults with hypertension in Thailand are likely to aggravate due to the rapid aging of the population. Our analysis provided useful information regarding significant predictors of disability and sex-specific risk factors of disability. Tailored promotion and ...

Abstract Climate change has aggravated the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, particularly in flood-related hazards. Cities nowadays face significant challenges in stormwater management from frequent heavy rainfalls. Traditional urban drainage systems can no longer cope with large amounts of surface runoff; cities are searching for new ways to deal with urban stormwater. Green roofs and other nature-based solutions have been widely used for stormwater management by combining water purification and retention functions but have not yet fully solved the flood problems. This article aims to (1) explore the different aspects of urban water management, particularly the urban stormwater topic, and (2) identify the existing solutions and discuss the potential and barriers to integrated solutions implementation. By introducing the concept of four domains and finding the overlapping area to investigate, we analyzed different solutions to reduce rainwater runoff from the roof and ground level, aiming at building and district scales. This paper proves that further research direction could constitute an integrated system to work together for urban stormwater management.

Abstract Cotton fabric selection is a challenging task in the garment product design and development process, and the selection of optimal alternative under the presence of multiple decision criteria becomes complex, and hence it is considered as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. In addition, the selection process involves fuzziness and uncertainty. In this study, Pythagorean fuzzy sets (PFSs) are introduced to handle uncertain information. Elimination and choice translating reality (ELECTRE) is a well-known outranking method for solving MCDM problems. Therefore, we extend the ELECTRE method under the PFS environment, and a correlation-based closeness coefficient is proposed to compare Pythagorean fuzzy numbers (PFNs). This paper applies the proposed PF-ELECTRE approach in solving a practical case involving the ranking cotton fabrics. To exhibit the superiority and robustness of the suggested method, sensitivity analysis is performed to examine the impacts of weights variation, as well as a comparative analysis is carried out between the PF-ELECTRE with several existing MCDM methods. The research contributes to the advancement and development of outranking MCDM methods through a novel PF-ELECTRE approach that utilizes the weighted correlation coefficient. Moreover, the developed method can obtain reliable results and can be used to other textile domains.

Abstract BackgroundThe construction of medical consortiums not only promotes active cooperation among hospitals, but also further intensifies active competition among them. The shared use of electronic health records (EHR) breaks the original pattern of benefit distribution among hospitals.ObjectiveThe purpose of this paper is to establish an incentive mechanism for the shared use EHR, and to reveal the incentive effect and mechanism of key factors, and to put forward management suggestions for solving the real conflicts.MethodsWe constructed a basic incentive model and an incentive model that introduces performance evaluation as a supervisory signal, based on analyzing the hospital cost function, the hospital benefit function, and the incentive contract function. Finally, the incentive effects of key factors before and after the introduction of performance evaluation were verified and compared using MATLAB simulation method.ResultsThe profit level and incentive coefficient of hospitals sharing EHR are independent of the amount of one-time government subsidies. Regardless of whether a performance evaluation supervisory signal is introduced or not, the incentive coefficients are increasing functions with respect to ρ, τ, but decreasing functions with respect to β, δ, γ. After the inclusion of supervisory signal of performance evaluation in the model, the ability of hospitals to use EHR has a higher impact effectiveness on improving both incentive effects and benefit levels. The impact of the value-added coefficient on the level of earnings is consistently greater than it would have been without the inclusion of the performance evaluation supervisory signal.ConclusionsEnhancing the capacity of hospitals to use EHR and tapping and expanding the value-added space of EHR are 2 key paths to promote sustainable shared use of EHR. Substantive performance evaluation plays an important role in stabilizing incentive effects.
