Abstract Decision-making processes in traditional urban design approaches are mainly top-down. Such processes have defects including not only taking a long time to examine design results but also leading to irreversible impacts after design implementation. Policymakers and researchers stress the importance of collaborating with different stakeholders in the process of urban design policy and guideline making in order to minimize these negative impacts. However, introducing public participation into urban design from the bottom up is challenging, especially when the process involves abstract urban design concepts such as indicators. This paper explores a new workflow aimed at enhancing public participation to cooperate in urban design work with the help of a newly designed platform tool powered by mobile augmented-reality technologies. The platform is intuitive to use and displays scenes of potential urban design results by superimposing the virtual models onto real-world environments on mobile devices. The public stakeholders are provided with this platform on-site to evaluate the initial values of urban design indicators by interacting with the prototype design along with an immersive experience. They can also grow familiar with the concepts of the given indicators during this process, which helps them better understand the implications of guidelines in future published urban design drafts and estimate the potential results. Their feedback is collected, which can help urban designers further optimize the indicators in urban design guideline making in order to improve their rationality. This process of urban design involving public participation is repeatable, which makes it possible to continuously adjust the design results. A user study was conducted to examine the platform’s usability and its ability to enhance public familiarity with the concepts of given indicators and their willingness to participate in urban design evaluation. The study also attests to the possibility of a workflow that integrates public feedback ...

Abstract With the deepening of a new round of technological revolution and industrial reform, digital technology has been continuously innovated and widely penetrated into various economic fields. The digital economy (DE) is gradually becoming the focus of China’s economic development planning and a new engine to enhance national strength. Evaluating the development level of DE in various regions is conducive to timely discover the shortcomings in China’s DE development, as well as provide an important basis for putting forward corresponding policy suggestions. This investigation established a hybrid multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) model for evaluating DE development of 31 provincial level regions in China ranging from 2015 to 2020. Firstly, the evaluation indicator system is established from digital infrastructure, integrated development, social benefits, innovation ability, and electronic-commerce dimensions containing 17 quantitative sub-criteria based on Fuzzy-Delphi method. Secondly, integrated weights of 17 sub-criteria from 2015 to 2020 are computed in terms of objective weights calculated by the anti-entropy weight (AEW) approach from 2015 to 2020 and subjective weights obtained via the best-worst method (BWM). Thirdly, MARCOS model is applied to evaluate the DE development degree of various regions in China ranging from 2015 to 2020. Case analysis illustrates that the DE development of Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Beijing always maintain in the top four from 2015 to 2020, while the southwest and northwest regions in China are obviously fall behind others. And the DE development degree of various regions is primarily affected under the integrated development performance, innovation ability performance, and social benefits performance. Therefore, the backward regions should emphasize the development of software industry and information technology industry. The robustness of the proposed MCDM model combining Fuzzy-Delphi, AEW, BWM and MARCOS is discussed employing three similarity coefficients of ...

Abstract Urban green space takes a dominant role in alleviating the urban heat island (UHI) effect. Most investigations into the effects of cooling factors from urban green spaces on the UHI have evaluated the correlation between each factor and land surface temperature (LST) separately, and the contribution weights of various typical cooling factors in mitigating the thermal environment have rarely been analyzed. For this research, three periods of Landsat 8 data captured between 2014 and 2018 of Xuzhou during the summer and autumn seasons were selected along with corresponding meteorological and flux measurements. The mono-window method was employed to retrieve LST. Based on the characteristics of the vegetation and spatial features of the green space, eight factors related to green space were selected and computed, consisting of three indices that measure vegetation and five metrics that evaluate landscape patterns: vegetation density (VD), evapotranspiration (ET), green space shading degree (GSSD), patch area ratio (PLAND), largest patch index (LPI), patch natural connectivity (COHESION), patch aggregation (AI), and patch mean shape index distribution (SHPAE_MN). Linear regression and bivariate spatial autocorrelation analyses between each green space factor and LST showed that there were significant negative linear and spatial correlations between all factors and LST, which proved that the eight factors were all cooling factors. In addition, LST was strongly correlated with all factors (|r| > 0.5) except for SHPAE_MN, which was moderately correlated (0.3 < |r| < 0.5). Based on this, two principal components were extracted by applying principal component analysis with all standardized green space factors as the original variables. To determine the contribution weight of each green space factor in mitigating the urban heat island (UHI) effect, we multiplied the influence coefficient matrix of the initial variables with the standardized multiple linear regression coefficients between the two principal ...

Abstract A robust and green strategy for the selective upgrading of biomass-derived platform chemicals towards highly valuable products is important for the sustainable development. Herein, the efficient electrocatalytic oxidation of biomass-derived furfuryl alcohol (FFA) into furoic acid (FurAc) catalyzed by the electrodeposited non-precious NiFe microflowers was successfully reached under the low temperature and ambient pressure. The 3D hierarchical NiFe microflowers assembled from ultrathin nanosheets were controllably synthesized by the electrodeposition method and uniformly grown on carbon fiber paper (CFP). Electrochemical analysis confirmed that NiFe nanosheets more preferred in the selective oxidation of FFA (FFAOR) than oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) in FFAOR displayed a clear decrease towards lower potential, resulting in 30 mV reduction of overpotential at 20 mA cm−2 compared with that of OER. The optimal catalyst Ni1Fe2 nanosheets exhibited the highest selectivity of FurAc (94.0%) and 81.4% conversion of FFA within 3 h. Besides, the influence of various reaction parameters on FFAOR was then explored in details. After that, the reaction pathway was investigated and rationally proposed. The outstanding performance for FFAOR can be ascribed to the unique structure of 3D flower-like NiFe nanosheets and oxygen vacancies, resulting in large exposure of active sites, faster electron transfer and enhanced adsorption of reactants. Our findings highlight a facile and convenient mean with a promising green future, which is promising for processing of various biomass-derived platform chemicals into value-added products.

Abstract Quantum computers are promising tools for simulating many-body quantum systems due to their potential scaling advantage over classical computers. While significant effort has been expended on many-fermion systems, here we simulate a model entangled many-boson system with the contracted quantum eigensolver (CQE). We generalize the CQE to many-boson systems by encoding the bosonic wavefunction on qubits. The CQE provides a compact ansatz for the bosonic wave function whose gradient is proportional to the residual of a contracted Schrödinger equation. We apply the CQE to a bosonic system, where N quantum harmonic oscillators are coupled through a pairwise quadratic repulsion. The model is relevant to the study of coupled vibrations in molecular systems on quantum devices. Results demonstrate the potential efficiency of the CQE in simulating bosonic processes such as molecular vibrations with good accuracy and convergence even in the presence of noise.

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitudes and practical experiences of cardiac surgery nurses regarding kinesiophobia management during early mobilisation.Design Using a descriptive qualitative research method, 21 cardiac surgery nurses participated in this study from October 2022 to January 2023, and the interview data were analysed using the Colaizzi 7-step analysis method.Setting Data were collected through in-depth face-to-face or online interviews in a tertiary hospital located in Nanjing, China.Participants 21 cardiac surgery nurses were interviewed from October 2022 to January 2023.Results Two themes were summarised: knowledge, attitude and practice of nurses (high recognition and low participation; low knowledge reserve; low willingness); the promotion and essential elements of kinesiophobia management (efficient health education model; stable medical staff–family caregiver collaboration; simplified clinical protocol; specialist nursing team; clarify the multidisciplinary division of labour). Conclusion The management of kinesiophobia in patients undergoing cardiac surgery is currently in the developmental phase. It is advisable to give due consideration to emotional support and cognitive training for medical staff. In addition, a workable management plan, consistent with clinical practice, should be formulated through multidisciplinary and medical staff–family caregiver collaboration to optimise patient outcomes.

Abstract Abstract It is of great theoretical significance and practical value to establish a fast and accurate detection method for particle size of rock fragmentation. This study introduces the Phansalkar binarization method, proposes the watershed seed point marking method based on the solidity of rock block contour, and forms an adaptive watershed segmentation algorithm for blasted rock piles images based on rock block shape, which is to better solve the problem of incorrect segmentation caused by adhesion, stacking and blurred edges in blasted rock images. The algorithm first obtains the binary image after image pre-processing and performs distance transformation; then by selecting the appropriate gray threshold, the adherent part of the distance transformation image, i.e., the adherent rock blocks in the blasted rock image, is segmented and the seed points are marked based on the solidity of the contour calculated by contour detection; finally, the watershed algorithm is used to segment. The area cumulative distribution curve of the segmentation result is highly consistent with the manual segmentation, and the segmentation accuracy was above 95.65% for both limestone and granite for rock blocks with area over 100 cm2, indicating that the algorithm can accurately perform seed point marking and watershed segmentation for blasted rock image, and effectively reduce the possibility of incorrect segmentation. The method provides a new idea for particle segmentation in other fields, which has good application and promotion value.

Abstract The mechanisms and applications of chitosan and its derivatives in transdermal drug delivery to promote drug permeation were reviewed in this paper. Specifically, we summarized the permeation-promoting mechanisms of chitosan and several of its derivatives, including changing the structure of stratum corneum proteins, acting on the tight junction of granular layers, affecting intercellular lipids, and increasing the water content of stratum corneum. These mechanisms are the reason why chitosan and its derivatives can increase the transdermal permeation of drugs. In addition, various transdermal preparations containing chitosan and its derivatives were summarized, and their respective advantages were expounded, including nanoparticles, emulsions, transdermal microneedles, nanocapsules, transdermal patches, transdermal membranes, hydrogels, liposomes, and nano-stents. The purpose of this review is to provide a theoretical basis for the further and wider application of chitosan in transdermal drug delivery systems. In the future, research results of chitosan and its derivatives in transdermal drug delivery need more support from in vivo experiments, as well as good correlation between in vitro and in vivo experiments. In conclusion, the excellent permeability-promoting property, good biocompatibility, and biodegradability of chitosan and its derivatives make them ideal materials for local transdermal drug delivery.

Abstract Zika virus (ZIKV), an emerging arthropod-borne flavivirus, was first isolated in Uganda in 1947 from monkeys and first detected in humans in Nigeria in 1952; it has been associated with a dramatic burden worldwide. Since then, interventions to reduce the burden of ZIKV infection have been mainly restricted to mosquito control, which in the end proved to be insufficient by itself. Hence, the situation prompted scientists to increase research on antivirals and vaccines against the virus. These efforts are still ongoing as the pathogenesis and immune evasion mechanisms of ZIKV have not yet been fully elucidated. Understanding the viral disease mechanism will provide a better landscape to develop prophylactic and therapeutic strategies against ZIKV. Currently, no specific vaccines or drugs have been approved for ZIKV. However, some are undergoing clinical trials. Notably, different platforms have been evaluated for the design of vaccines, including DNA, mRNA, viral vectors, virus-like particles (VLPs), inactivated virus, live attenuated virus, peptide and protein-based vaccines, passive immunizations by using monoclonal antibodies (MAbs), and vaccines that target vector-derived antigens. These vaccines have been shown to induce specific humoral and cellular immune responses and reduce viremia and viral RNA titers, both in vitro and in vivo. This review provides a comprehensive summary of current advancements in the development of vaccines against Zika virus.
