    Abstract While phacoemulsification cataract surgery is a routine and safe procedure, clear visualization of the anterior segment is challenging in patients with corneal opacity. Illumination from the operating microscope can cause scattering and light reflection in a patient with corneal opacity. A frequent approach for these cases is cataract surgery with sequential or simultaneous corneal transplantation. This method has serious preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative drawbacks, such as a long wait for a donor cornea, choroidal hemorrhage, and delayed visual rehabilitation. In this case series, the technique of intracameral endoilluminator-assisted phacoemulsification surgery in patients with severe corneal opacity was shown to provide better visualization and reduced scattering and reflection in patients with corneal opacity.

    Abstract This study addresses the level of hopelessness experienced by last-year students at a faculty of veterinary medicine. Moreover, it identifies the factors behind this emotion. A face-to-face questionnaire was administered to 238 last-year students from 2017 to 2021. The questionnaire included questions about sociodemographic and other characteristics, along with the Beck Hopelessness Scale. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and chi-square tests. The findings suggested that nearly 60% of the respondents experienced hopelessness. The analysis also revealed a significant relation between hopelessness levels and variables such as year, gender, expected time of first employment, and psychological status. The results suggested that the current state of mental health is worrying for the veterinary faculty students and therefore for the future veterinarians. For this reason, it can be argued that steps to be taken towards a solution in the veterinary education periods are required.

    Abstract Introduction: Subacromial pain syndrome (SPS) is a common cause of shoulder pain, and is associated with functional limitation, workdays lost, disability, and poor quality of life.
    Purpose: Our purpose was to investigate the effects of scapular stabilization exercises in patients with SPS.
    Method: Sixty-four patients with SPS who also exhibit observable scapular dyskinesis defined by the scapular dyskinesis test were recruited and randomized to scapular stabilization exercise training group or to control group. All participants received the same rehabilitation protocol including glenohumeral and scapular mobilization, pendulum exercises, shoulder stretching, range of motion exercises, strengthening, and proprioceptive exercises. Patients in the scapular stabilization exercise training group performed additional scapular stabilization exercises. The presence of scapular dyskinesis, shoulder pain severity, motion, muscle strength, scapular upward rotation, and shoulder disability were assessed before and after the four-week rehabilitation program.
    Results: The scapular stabilization exercise training group had better improvement in scapular dyskinesis, pain, muscle strength, and shoulder disability compared to the control group (p < 0.05). However, there was no statistically significant time-group interaction regarding shoulder motion and scapular upward rotation (p > 0.05).
    Conclusions: Scapular stabilization exercises added to the shoulder mobilization, stretching, and strengthening are effective in improving scapular dyskinesis, reducing pain, increasing muscle strength and shoulder function in patients with SPS accompanied by scapular dyskinesis.

    Abstract Citrus plants are host to several plant parasitic nematodes (PPNs), which are microscopic organisms. Among PPNs, the citrus root nematode, T. semipenetrans (Cobb 1913) (Tylenchida: Tylenchulidae), causes significant damage to citrus plantations worldwide. Understanding citrus nematode populations, precise identification, host preference among citrus species, and damage threshold are crucial to control T. semipenetrans. The minutiae of citrus plant-nematode interactions, nematode density and molecular nematode identification are not well understood. In this study, nematode species and density in citrus orchards, host specialization, molecular and morphological characteristics of nematodes were assessed. Molecular and morphological methods, host-nematode interactions, host (citrus species) preference, damage economic threshold (ET), and economic injury level (EIL) were determined using laboratory methods and field sampling. Citrus plantations in different provinces in the Mediterranean region of Turkey were investigated. Nematode species were identified molecularly and morphologically.     Abstract Properties of nuclei in hot stellar environments such as supernovae or neutron star mergers are largely unexplored. Since it is poorly understood how many protons and neutrons can be bound together in hot nuclei, we investigate the limits of nuclear existence (drip lines) at finite temperature. Here, we present mapping of nuclear drip lines at temperatures up to around 20 billion kelvins using the relativistic energy density functional theory (REDF), including treatment of thermal scattering of nucleons in the continuum. With extensive computational effort, the drip lines are determined using several REDFs with different underlying interactions, demonstrating considerable alterations of the neutron drip line with temperature increase, especially near the magic numbers. At temperatures T ≲ 12 billion kelvins, the interplay between the properties of nuclear effective interaction, pairing, and temperature effects determines the nuclear binding. At higher temperatures, we find a surprizing result that the total number of bound nuclei increases with temperature due to thermal shell quenching. Our findings provide insight into nuclear landscape for hot nuclei, revealing that the nuclear drip lines should be viewed as limits that change dynamically with temperature.

    Abstract Unaltered watersheds with natural vegetation cover (forest, grasslands, etc.) provide several ecological benefits in addition to providing freshwater, controlling water levels, and supporting flourishing streamside ecosystems. However, as in many watersheds in the World, the research area in this study, the Borcka Dam Watershed (BDW), has been affected by many human-induced disturbances affecting a wide area of forest and grassland areas as well as soil and water resources. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess and evaluate the possible effects of anthropogenic disturbances, particularly on annual changes in water discharge, some water quality parameters, and total suspended sediment (TSS) amounts in the main streams of four sub-watersheds (Fabrika, Godrahav, Hatila, and Murgul) and the reservoir of the dam.     Abstract Background: In the pathogenesis of autoimmune bullous diseases, there is an underlying autoinflammation against epidermal/subepidermal structures caused by many inflammatory cells. Aim / Objectives: In this study, we aimed to determine the alterations in inflammatory markers regarding disease activity in autoimmune bullous diseases and to discuss their contribution to the pathogenesis.
    Methods: A total of 191 patients with pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and 46 patients with bullous pemphigoid (BP) who were admitted to the outpatient clinic at the Department of Dermatology were included. The mean platelet volume (MPV) values, thrombocyte, eosinophil, and basophil counts, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels prior and following treatment were examined retrospectively from the patients' medical files. A decrease of 75% or more in Autoimmune Bullous Skin Disorder Intensity Score (ABSIS) was considered a remission period.
    Results: Among patients with PV, 78 (40.8%) were men and 113 (59.2%) were women. In patients with PV, MPV value, eosinophil, basophil count, and ESR and CRP levels showed a statistically significant decrease during the remission period, whereas alteration in platelet count was not statistically significant. Eighteen (39.1%) of patients with BP were men and 28 (60.9%) were women. In patients with BP, MPV value, eosinophil count, and ESR and CRP levels showed a statistically significant decrease during the remission period. However, platelet and basophil counts revealed no statistically significant alterations.
    Limitations: Evaluation of the ABSIS scores of the followed-up patients by different observers due to the long time interval can be considered among the limitations of the study.
    Conclusion: Eosinophils, basophils, and thrombocytes to the inflammation in the pathogenesis of PV, whereas eosinophils and thrombocytes may contribute in the pathogenesis of BP. During the activation period of autoimmune bullous diseases, the level of acute-phase reactants is higher than in the remission period.

    Abstract Purpose: To evaluate the systemic inflammation in moderate-to-severe Graves' ophthalmopathy patients with abnormal thyroid function by using complete blood cell count-derived inflammatory biomarkers and compare to moderate-to-severe GO patients with regulated thyroid function and healthy controls. The second aim is to evaluate the relationship of complete blood cell count-derived inflammatory biomarkers with clinical findings in moderate-to-severe GO.
    Methods: In this retrospective study, 90 GO patients with abnormal thyroid function composed Group 1, 58 patients who had normal thyroid function for at least 3 months composed Group 2, and 50 healthy individuals composed Group 3. Demographic data, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), mean platelet volume (MPV), and systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) were evaluated.
    Results: There was no statistically significant difference between groups in terms of age, sex, and smoking habits (p > 0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in NLR (p = 0.011), MLR (p = 0.013), MPV (p < 0.001), and SII (p < 0.001) values among 3 groups. For NLR, MLR, and SII the highest values were detected in Group 1. MPV levels were higher in Group 3 than Groups 1 and 2 (p < 0.001). None of the hematological parameters were found to be a risk factor for any clinical severity findings of GO.
    Conclusion: The higher levels of NLR, MLR, and SII levels may show systemic inflammation in GO patients with abnormal thyroid function, and this may have an impact on the clinical course of ophthalmopathy. These findings may suggest that cautious control of thyroid hormone levels is important in the management of GO.
